MvM Discussion Megathread: Do Androids Complain of Overpowered Upgrades?
1,944 replies, posted
Personally I tend to only get crit resistance to not get 1-shot as most damage-dealing classes (besides heavy) and I do fine that way.
But then again 80% of my tours I play scout, where it's the other way around. Full resistances, 700 health and milk everywhere :v:
I hope by "speed upgrades" you don't mean movement speed.
since only scout will ever need that.
and pyro
and engi
and heavy
and med
and spy

Movement speed is one of the most useful upgrades, and it's not that expensive.
Even though I'm used to the pre-Two Cities metagame, where I needed to get back to the frontlines with a teleporter or by walking. Now that Medic can ressurect people, I don't know if the upgrade is still that useful.
Still, it's really useful to get near your teamates with your banner active, walk around even with the Brass Beast revved up, etc.

It has uses for every class. Resurrection only mitigates the Heavy's necessity for having some movement speed since he parks the bus, but it's still useful for him regardless. Sniper tends to not need it as much but being able to haul ass to an advantageous position is helpful for not-dying purposes (although it's not that hard to pull of quick-scopes on the bots, there are times where that's simply too dangerous to stick around).
[thumb]http://www.sourceop.com/hell-met/TF2/spyspawn.jpg[/thumb]
spybots sometimes spawn inside gates so that could be what crashes some games
Oh I remember when this happened once.
Daft spybots jumped up onto the ramp and behind the gate as it was being opened by gatebots, then we killed the gatebots and the spies got trapped there.
It was beneficial in the end as it prevented more spies from spawning and the trapped ones were harmless.

Just witnessed a guy get one as well, I got a proff widowmaker while another guy got a proff shovel or something equally as bad. Got 4 prof kits in my last 9 tours and most of them are pretty bad.
it was weird.
I got 4 drop boxes.
generic wanga prick
specialized wanga prick
professional Wanga prick
Australium FaN

Ouch, no pan for you I guess.
Are you seriously suggesting resistances on soldier/demo? The only 2 classes that you SHOULD get resistances on is heavy and pyro. Every other class can play without it just fine, except crit resistance, which every class should have maxed out by the end. Resistances on these classes are something you get when your primary is maxed out.
Resistances are good on medic after you've upgraded your medigun, they're great on demoman since you don't need everything on your stickybomb launcher (just damage and reload speed is what I consider a must-have on the upgrades, maybe a few points into firing speed). Soldier needs a few more upgrades on his gun than demoman but still you should not ignore resistances.
Resistances are good on medic after you've upgraded your medigun
Eh, a dead medic won't do much good. I always get at least one blast resist at the start.
I usually get slow Milk first on Scout, and then max resistances. On any other class, I get the first tick of Health Regen, as well as an occasional resist if I need it. But, for the most part, the main thing I update on any class but Scout is their 'main' weapon.
Is it me, or is projectile deflection for the heavy the most unreliable upgrade by far even when maxed?
I can knock maybe one or two out of the the other 35 rockets coming my way.

It used to be more reliable before 2cities. I wonder what happened.

Don't know about you but I can make any Giant Rapid Fire Soldier unable to harm anyone with it unless I'm stupid and stand right under it's feet.

Maybe they thought Heavy was too powerful. I mean, he could deal lots of damage, destroy projectiles, penetrate bots [sp]heh[/sp] and also push them with rage.
I think the "more accuracy" became part of the upgrade only after 2cities, but I still think they should have reduced its cost to $300~$350 per point.

Have fun playing Scout with no resistances. You'll spend 60% of the match dead, the overheal only does so much.

I died 6 times in total with only crit resist while also doing battle Scout.
Of course not recommended for an average player :v:

Alright I will.

level 1 deflection is super crappy now, catches about 1 rocket out of 5
level 2 is almost shortcircuit, you just gotta duck and understand how it works
I wonder what level robot deflectors use though?

It probably doesn't matter as their aimbots pick off all the rockets if they're looking at you.
then that's level 2...
There's one thing I see happen a lot and I really don't understand.
Why do some scouts, with a decent amount of tours upgrade their sandman on wave 1. No move speed, no resist, sandman upgrades. Why.
They're slow, they can't take damage, they die and miss money. I don't understand, and I've seen it happen a few times already with the excuse that "the sandman is good in the later waves".
Alright I will.

Ok so it's possible, but not everyone has nearly 5000 hours in TF2. Just because it's viable for you doesn't mean it's what everyone should be doing. It would be like going on a Valve server and telling the new soldiers to rollout. Sure they can technically do it with enough time and practice in the long run but until then all they are going to do is blow themselves up a lot.
It's not impossible to play scout without resistances, but you're risking losing money in case your team doesn't hold the pressure.
With resistances you can afford to collect money in robot-infested environment.

That wasn't the point. The point is that you shouldn't say something is impossible when it isn't. If you want to get resistances on scout is up to you, because as long as you get all the money, people won't care what you use your money on.
Also what drury said. Having some resistances, if your team is bad, can be great.

Now do it in Hamlet Hostility.
