Over the last 2 months we got
- Sharpened Volcano Fragment
- Sun-On-A-Stick
- Kunai
- Fan-o-War
- Half Zatoichi
- Concheror
That's 6 items.
In that same time, we got
- Geisha
- Noh Mercy
- Samur-Eye
- Hero's Hachimaki
- Humanitarian's Hachimaki
- Benefactor's Kanmurai
- Monarch
- 11 items from this update
That's 18 items, 3 times as many as the weapons we got in that time. However, we always get more hats than weapons. The first hat update ever added 9 hats when we only got 6 weapons. The next update we got 20+ hats and no weapons at all. The next update we didn't get any hats, but got 7 weapons.
It all balances out in the end, and we haven't really gotten any more hats vs weapons recently than we have since hats were added. This update also brought a bunch of misc items, which are something TF2 needs more of.

You get the companion cube pin item (the new one) for purchasing and playing all of the Potato Pack games.
Should have just given it to people who are participating in the ARG, there's a lot of opportunities to do so.
