Coming back to Engineer for a minute, though "the engineer needs to guard his sentry" makes sense for the people who fight sentries, it makes playing engineer really boring. Sometimes you'd like to be away from your sentry and try to flank on people who are trying to destoy it, but you can't because without constant attention your sentry will instantly fall. And no matter how long you stand around aimlessly waiting for someone, the second you get bored and walk away a billion spies sap your nest.
That's why Mini-Sentries are so fun and considered so OP by many. It no longer becomes all about the sentry, because they are disposable. It allows you to move around and shoot people with your gun at the same time your sentry is also shooting them.

If your placement is any good, you shouldn't need to worry about your sentry going down when you leave it to patrol the area. This also depends on team composition, a good team will be able to lock down the sentry's weak spots if they're attentive as well. It's not all shouldered by the Engineer. This said, there's not much a Spy can do to the gun on his own unless you're straying extremely far away from the gun, while you're not on any literal leashes, the level 3's max health puts a rough estimate of how far you should be patrolling for it to be safe to unsap the gun even if the Spy starts to shoot at it. If you get sapped, call it out and a teammate should mop the Spy up for you as you make your return trip. If things go down, don't worry, just make a speedy rebuild and make sure you have some cover from your team; the enemy team will be looking to capitalize on the downed building.
Engineer isn't boring unless you make it boring. Playing with people who don't communicate or don't consider their teammate's positions are bound to make your life less enjoyable. Proper maintenance is what separates the good Engineers from the bad. Unlike Scout and Sniper, Engineer requires more awareness and positioning than he needs twitch aim or tracking.

Funny thing about that: You can totally do that without the Gunslinger. You have to put more thought into your placements, and you can't easily set down a sentry in the middle of a fight so you have to do a little predicting, but playing offensively with disposable lvl 1s backing you up is pretty good stuff. The Eureka Effect in particular is great for this, since if you die you can come right back with a hidden teleporter exit (don't build an entrance and it'll be pretty hard to spot).
[QUOTE=papaya;47178795]because unless you're playing the game at a competitive level, random crits make the game more fun and exciting
there's nothing better than a critical rocket explosion into the middle of an enemy team's push.

Okay, crits are a nice concept in theory. Turn the tide of battle and help your team secure victory despite all odds? Yeah that sounds pretty nice. But it allows people to get into stupid situations with little consequence if the RNG decides it. Scouts shouldn't be getting into Soldier v Scout situations in an open area, but having your scattergun graze the enemy and leaving them with incredibly low health only encourages that; it's the game saying "good job getting into that situation dude, here's your free 3x damage" and, in my opinion, is legitimately unfair
Nocrit servers that aren't DM ones aren't populous at all here in Burgerland so I'm out of luck if I legitimately want to enjoy a real battle without having to go through the trouble of finding a lobby (gross) or a scrim (unlikely)
I don't know, I've wanted to start my own server like that for a while but I'd need to sustain it based off donations and I'm fairly certain that'll never happen so whatever, for now I'll just complain
I don't like random crits on ranged weapons. In melee I honestly prefer it, since melee weapons are so risky to use anyways.
What's especially silly is that random crits as a mechanic were introduced as a means of breaking a stalemate, yet they do a good job of doing the complete opposite. This can be further extended to random pellet spread and damage spread, but it's much more pronounced with crits.
What crits tend to do is favor people who have done a considerable amount of damage in the past 20 seconds. These are people who are already performing well and likely are doing a good amount of killing. So while it's true that someone can randomly take down a good player, it's more likely that the good player just keeps steamrolling. Even moreso with explosive classes, as the way that their weapons have a singular source of damage makes them much more potent at ranges. A crocket from across the map will still do roughly 270 to everyone in range, a shotgun crit from across the map is lucky to do 18 to a single person. Not to mention that classes are inherently built for different things. Scout racks up damage in bursts and only when getting the drop on a group while Soldier, Demo, and Heavy have a steady stream of damage dealt because they're intended to churn out damage.
It all barely matters in the end since the crit chance bonus is so small for ranged weapons (up to +10% from 2% base, thus 12%). It only really shines when it comes to melee where you get up to 60% chance to crit.
The memorable streak effect is very apparent when you go melee scout. It's kinda under-appreciated, with precise twitch skills you're even more deadly than using your primary. The fire rate is ridiculous and crit damage comparable to that of Scattergun blasts, not to mention no need to reload and no ammo requirements. The worst part is ramping the crit chance, you have to pick light classes, less skilled if possible. Later on you can take on heavies no problem, they go down quite quickly. Not all that awesome if you can't dodge and pick fights as scout mind you.

bfb makes batting kinda viable
that was one of the best perks back when nobody used it
"Medic I need some heals."
"Medic why are you shooting needles at me?"
"Oh, are you spychecking? Its ok, look I'm swinging my melee weapon."
"M-m-medic why are you attacking me with your bonesaw? I'M NOT A SPY >_<"
Turns out he wasn't spychecking, he thought he healed by attacking his teammates. And he thought the Medi Gun was like a death ray so he tried to use it on enemies. Like come on, the Medi Gun has a symbol crosshair associated with medicine. To be fair, he accepted his mistake and was like "sorry, you can probably tell im new."
I made many stupid mistakes when I first started and I look back at them and I smirk to myself, instead of cringing because I wasn't a prick to people that pointed out and helped me correct my mistakes. Unfortunately, most the time, when I go to help someone, they go "stfu nub" yet they're the one still trying to figure out how to cloak after 125 hours. I'm trying to help, I could understand if I was screaming at you.
While yes I sometimes slightly peeved off people don't know how to do simple things explained Training, I often find myself more forgiving of new players that make mistakes as classes like Scout, Pyro, Heavy etc. because there is no Training and to figure these things out, you have to either google it or jump into game ( whether it be vs bots or players )
tldr ; ungrateful new players and lack of training modes.
I remember the days where I would use the fan-o-war all the time because I thought "Marked for death" meant that player was killed in 10 seconds or something.
Those were the days.

Haha yeah!
Sure do love whenever I'm playing Medic and get a full charge except a random Soldier hit me with a crit rocket before I could react! Or maybe when I get into a melee fight after getting the enemy down to 20 health and they kill me because they're having fun getting random crits that deal 3x the damage they should for no reason other than RNG hates me!
Of course I play competitive so I guess my opinion on Random crits and RNg is null.
the "fixed weapons not showing up before shooting" update actually was not applied to mvm
it's like they literally have to take care of two different games. there is no hope
[QUOTE=UberMunchkin;47182090]"Enemy X at Y doing Z"

If i had a quarter for everytime i went "SPY SPY SPY SPY DISGUISED AS SOLDIER SPY DISGUISED AS SOLDIER WEARING PILOT HAT SPY DISGUISED AS SOLDIER IN BASE BY LEFT SPAWN" only to see the spy kill someone seconds later
so how about them facestabs. those are always exploited by the most douchiest of players.

it's funny how this happened just minutes ago on the server I was on.

I actually found a nocrit/nospread server with comp map rotation that is occasionally active, generally on the weekends. Still stuck with crits the rest of the week though.
Honestly, crits on melee weapons wouldn't be so bad if melee weapons just didn't suck so badly in the first place. Nothing feels worse than getting critted after swinging and playing the hitsound (but not registering).
I've literally collided with people while swinging my melee weapon and have it not register. It's super broken.

You can't just say something like that and not post an IP.

I'm legitimately convinced that 2/3 of players play without sound and text.
I type in chat and tell an Engie over Mic to move his shit up and he stays in the exact same spot while everything is 2 points above.
There should be a hud indicator for engineers with inactive buildings. For instance, if a sentry has gotten no kills/action in a significant amount of time (5+ minutes) it should have a little arrow that says "Sentries do well defending, but why not try moving it up closer to the action?"

and then they carry it to the front lines because they don't know better and are headshot because they move so slow. They then stop playing TF2 because that isn't fun.

Engineers probably wouldn't even see or read that and the ones that do would submit a bug report saying that their game is telling them to do things they don't want to

May as well make a complaint to God that life is telling them to do things they don't want to do.
I may have said this before but I know people getting facestabbed, but try thinking about the other side of the scale. When, as a Spy, I can't backstab peeps that are alone and literally stood still. I constantly swing, I hear the noise and sometimes the Spy even says something yet I don't even do any damage. Melee registration is awful in general, as well the backstab registration, whether it works in your favour or not.

~Having melee fight~
You hit an heavy 3 times with your melee, only for them to turn around and get an crit first time round

It's a server for a group called FastCompany 74.91.119.234:27015
According to their group page they play on Saturday nights.
People who tell new players to unbindall are the biggest sacks of shit.
-snip-
Ever since Valve fixed that icon bug people have been tunnel vision'ing like crazy to get revenges. It's fucking annoying.
