I never get killed by them, you just watch what they do, it's not hard
If they are attempting to jump over your head back away
If they're trying to strafe with you, go the opposite direction
Basically never face your back against them unless if they somehow learned how to perfect facestabbing, which I believe is impossible
And if you died from them chances are you weren't paying attention to spies anyways, so a simple backstab would've done it
Oh and take note most "le backstab xd" spies hardly ever use their revolver because of their knife boner so try to distance yourself

just don't melee fight them, back up away from them and shoot them.
[editline]18th January 2015[/editline]
Also it should be obvious enough to not follow them up stairs or around corners. Take the corner wide if you have to.
90% of the time if you die to a trickstab it's because you did something wrong.

With this game's hitbox you have to be crazy to get in a melee fight with a spy.
Stairstabs are really easy to dodge indeed. When I think about it now, I mostly get caught on matador stabs either because I have lags or I run at them like an idiot trying to hit them with a melee weapon. I don't really have much right to complain.
Why do Trickstabbing Spies exist?
It's actually pretty effective against new players who naturally do full turns when tracking an enemy, rather than centering the enemy in their view.
Obviously it's just sad against experienced players who can generally dodge it and only get killed if they're preoccupied.
Cornerstabs seem to work better on experienced players though, as even though it's one of the most well known trickstabs, if you're not thinking about it, chances are you'll get stabbed.
Oh and take note most "le backstab xd" spies hardly ever use their revolver because of their knife boner so try to distance yourself
I've honestly run into quite a few trickstabbers that were horrifyingly effective with either the revolver or the ambassador.
Because they're easy to kill and shouldn't even try in the first place against decent players
I love walking into obvious trick stabs, usually on stairs, then just turning with the person and getting a free kill on them.
Trick stabs are so stupid.
A trick stabber tried to stab me in a stair well. He died from fall damage. :v:
Stair-stabbers seem so confident when they do it, too. They never expect you to just not follow them. I always wait for them to try it and see me going "are you done?" at the bottom of the stairs.
On the topic of stair-stabbers I feel like bringing out this old gif again

I love when they miss once then instantly run back up and try again while you are still standing perfectly still at the bottom
Did anyone say trickstabs?
Footage is not the best I've experienced, but it was the only time replays were on.

remove the s from https and it will work.
I do matador and corner stabs sometimes. I almost never attempt stair stabs because 90% of the time it ends up in absolute failure.
How does this even happen?

Also why

Of all the hats you could pick :suicide:
Apparently he got it for reporting the exploit where name tags could have 80 characters instead of 40.
This bullshit:

The pro strat for stair stabbing is to pretend to stair stab someone then use their confusion to actually run away and hide again
Apparently he got this hat due to finding an exploit regarding making names have around 80 words or so.
That have to be the shittiest reason to reward someone. That is if I am not missing a very obvious gamebreaking effect that that would have.
Atleast the "use giftapults to open crates" made sense because valve don't wanna lose out on money.
Shooting a sniper as a sniper
Hearing the hit sound
Dying
Kill cam
Nice big red splat on his face, no damage
This really grinds my gears so much I'm gonna have to find some lubrication before the machine explodes

It let you have 80 character name
But that's about it. Not really economy breaking.
i use the degreaser but not with reserve shooter or axtinguisher... am i giga hitler?
What kind of thing is that? (don't mind the stats, I've got so many points by standing on a payload on an empty Badwater server)

A country kicker? That's new but I like the idea. Too bad it is kicking the wrong contries.

It's pretty clever choosing an achievement hat that also has a strangifier.

Waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, the "reward a unusual for exploit reporting" is real? Aha, time to report the 3-4 ones I know and that not many people know about.

Before you get your hopes up, it's only for exploits that affect the item server and could therefore cause Valve to lose money on the game, for example using giftapults as keys.
If it's "look at this map spot where you can put sentries" Eric will tell you you're a nice boy and give you a lollipop and that's about it.
Also, please don't report exploits for the sole purpose of getting an Unusual. That's selfish.

Well, I was semi-ironic on this. But i'll stay quiet anyways (just like your profile pic seems to suggest).

I remember someone on reddit getting mad for reporting it first and not getting an unusual. Purple hats can really make people greedy.
