Sniper (and Spy too) exists as a way to make things happen. He is the anti-thesis of damage being stronger up close and weaker far away. If teams had no assassination classes to worry about, it'd be far easier to just camp and wait for players to come into your clutches so you can counter them and keep running the clock. It challenges the powerhouse classes to be wary of their positioning so they don't get gunned down from outside of their walls of pain, this coerces the game's flow to orient itself around having sufficient cover but a good enough view of the action that it's not boring. These natural chokepoints form when a potential Sniper's line of sight need to be respected and operated around. I'd find a decent comparison to be zoners and chip damage in fighting games. If chip damage weren't a thing, it'd be easy to time out a match by just staying defensive once there's a health lead. The chip damage, however, forces the player to make a move on the zoner and get up into their face where they're weakest.
That doesnt mean sniper cant be changed to be less obnoxious. I honestly dont get why he doesnt have reverse damage falloff, I mean it makes perfect sense, every other class has damage falloff when they try to kill people outside there optimal range.

It's called missing.
I use a rather high mouse sensitivity and I aim by twitching, so I find perfect range for sniping shotgun range. It's arguable.
It's less about aiming and more about positioning. If you can predict where they want to go you can step so they move towards you at that time. People walking towards you are easy to headshot.
A better question is why do brass knuckles do less damage than bare fists.
The same reason the Ambassador - a gun that should by all rights fire bullets big enough to down a herd of elephants in a single shot - does less damage than the stock revolver. IN TF2, the way a weapon looks like it should function means nothing.
Jumping gives you that beautifully predictable arc.
Is valve ever going to fix flexes on cosmetics? I'm tired of the dapper disguise clipping through my face.
I think I found a fix for this, apparently enabling the 3d playermodel on your hud breaks flexes.
I think I found a fix for this, apparently enabling the 3d playermodel on your hud breaks flexes.
No, that's not it. I've just tested it with my Lone Survivor. Flexes still broken.
Jumping gives you that beautifully predictable arc.
Is there anything you can do against good snipers that isnt predictable. Ive heard jumpings predictable, not jumpings predictable, and randomly mashing wasd still leaves you upon to be a bodyshot. Honestly when facing really good snipers it feels less like dodging and more like "cross fingers, hope he misses"
Hide behind wall, wait for someone else to solve the problem.

tfbots are majestic when it comes down to dodging. it's always nice to sit down and learn a thing or two from them. gatebots do it alot in mvm
tfbots are majestic when it comes down to dodging. it's always nice to sit down and learn a thing or two from them. gatebots do it alot in mvm
If you point a sniper rifle at them, even if you're behind them and there's literally no way for them to know you're there, AND they were just standing motionlessly a moment ago, they start freaking out and dancing all over the place. Only exception is Medics, who are the ones who would be freaking out at all times in normal play. e: actually engineer bots don't either but that's because they clip inside their sentries and become headshot-proof gods
Is a crime to play Sydney Sniper? Because 3 people tried to kill me, then a 4th joined (glad he was autobalanced to my side) edit: I guess it's my fault, I used a cheap loadout or gun, it was fun, but the other side must have not feel really good with that, I mean, 150 then pissed. Sounds like a good support weapon but I did not take into account how the other player would feel.
who cares weapons can be annoying to play against but your job is to just prevent the other team from winning. no matter how you do that, a victory's a victory
jump and airstrafe has always worked for me
The Sydney sleeper is just bad. I've never really understood people saying that it's a support weapon, you're more useful to your teammates if you kill your opponents instead of just damaging them and applying jarate. And it's not a good option for inexperienced snipers because they wont learn how to headshot while using it.
You can lay down 5-6 body shots that apply jarate than you can doing 1-2 headshots in that time. It's useful if you're firing into a group your team is fighting against and helping out everyone else. And you cannot always count on getting that clutch headshot. A scout or someone else might fire a shot that just nicks you with a pellet and throw your aim completely off causing you to body shot or miss entirely. And frankly, some maps don't allow for any decent sightlines to where you can see heads all the time. So you might as well be a bit more helpful and use jarate to help your team.
Sydney sleeper is alright in late wave MvM that's it.
But sydney is alright from wave 1 to end. Classic on the other hand.

Not only you trigger his fake death, but also cover his real body in piss, while somewhere behind the monitor you hear him fart from this moment, since he is now visible and his precious "god mode" won't help him.
Sydney sleeper is alright in late wave MvM that's it.
fuck the meta. sydney is fun as hell all game- that's coming from 130 tours of wearing out the meta.
The Sydney best sniper rifle 2015
The classic is the best sniper rifle, quickscoping is a crutch for bad snipers
Come on, we all know the LuckMan is the best Sniper Primary
No, that's not it. I've just tested it with my Lone Survivor. Flexes still broken.
I think it breaks whenever the cosmetic is shown outside of normal gameplay, such as the 3d hud icon, loadout screen, or class selection screen. Not sure why this happens.

If you get in a game with one of those medic + demo/soldier/heavy combos that think they are invincible, whip it out and keep the pocket constantly pissed on. It must be pretty demoralizing :v:
Spies camping out a corner during the beginning of the round. Dealing a good amount of damage when you see the opposing team all bunched up, but killing fucking nooooooothing.
Gotta love those people that act all high and mighty just because they have participant steel medals on their inventory. Dude get the fuck off your high horse will ya? As far as I'm concerned you are as ordinary as any other person playing this game maybe even worse.
I have two Steel participant medals and I think I'm kinda good
