I see your point, but as someone who loves custom game modes on servers which are almost always full because there's only 2 of them (Stop The Tank for example), I feel disconnecting after waiting for so long to connect initially is a cop out. To me, disconnecting is letting the hacker win. They're doing it to grief and if you and others leave - they have succeeded.
It's a horrible situation to be in. Hope SMAC or an Admin picks the hacker up and bans them; hope the server hasn't got voting disabled and is full of idiots who want to keep the hacker on the server because he's making their team win; hope he gets bored and buggers off or sit there and try and counter him.
I got an air strike collectors set
with steam trading now and accepting emails, I will complete this goal when I am a very old man
Had a weird pub experiance yesterday. I was playing asteroid as a sniper. Just using the bushwaka, jarate, and the huntsmen.
I was just having fun, not going really try hard or anything and i kept on dying a lot but thats not really important.
Anyways, a new player joins the server. He seemed to be kinda new (he wasnt wearing any hats and had "mercenary" on.) He plays for about 5 minutes in silence and then in the chat he asks me to give him my huntsmen. At first i thought he was making fun of how bad i was doing with it; so i just type "lol."
Then he tells me that he will kick me if i dont give it to him. I say "okay go ahead." He calls a vote to kick me but noone votes me off. When it doesnt work he starts spamming in the chat. Begging me to give him the freakin bow.
The huntsmen isnt strange, festive, or anything. Its just a normal freaking huntsmen and this dude is acting like its an unusual or something.
Someone on chat eventually tells him that he has a spare huntsmen that he can give him for free. But the kid just ignores him and keeps begging me in chat. The other dude does eventually get his attention though.
Apparantly; the huntsmen-begger cant trade because his steam account is new. The other dude explains to the begger that he cannot trade, but huntsmen-begger is relentless. He keeps spamming me and the other dude to "stop tricking him." I vote to kick him but he doesnt get enough votes.
Round ends, teams change. He is now on red. I walk on the bridge in the middle of the map and he ambushes me as a scout. I decide to troll him "Now your definitely not getting the huntsmen." He's all like "im sorry, please. I wont do it again." Heheheheh.
Then 2 minutes later he is like "you know what?" Im done just kick me." We tell him just to disconnect but he wont listen. He starts acting depressed. Starts typing things like "i hate my life" "you dont know what is like to be me."
Welp, that goes on until i end up leaving about 15 minutes later.
The end.
Good snipers.
I don't have anything against the people playing them, but god damn they're so unfun to play against.
Good snipers.

They're the biggest pain in the ass because there is no counter to them. If there's a good spy then you can just go pyro or constantly turn around. If there's a good scout you can go natascha heavy, etc. But against a sniper that can reliably headshot you and any range? Maybe BFB Scout but they can usually headshot those too.
And not to mention the fact they're hiding behind their teammates, so even getting to them is an accomplishment
Very high skill players in general on pub servers aren't very fun. It's ok if there is someone on your team who can equal them to balance things out but outside of that they just aren't any fun to play against. And heaven help you if there is a group of them who refuse to be on separate teams. Some people might say "if it bothers you that much then just get better!" but you can't really improve when you can't leave spawn. All there is to do is to change servers.
I wouldn't consider myself "very high skill" but I think it's rude when I'm in a pub wearing my UGC badge and people tell me "go back to lobbies/comp/whatever"
Like no I want to have fun and chill once in a while okay

I'm more referring to like plat and gold people. I still remember one match where a plat guy was playing with his friend and over chat he kept antagonizing his own teammates about how great he was because he was in iron. I only know he was in plat because his profile was public and his team had a steam group that linked to their UGC page.
When a guy can headshot you constantly at 2 feet as you're burying him under pistol bullets, it ain't fun.
I wonder what'd happen if there was a Sniper Rifle nerf so it'd do considerably less damage at close range.
I'd get within scattergun/shotgun range before engaging. Even the best sniper is useless at point blank range until he takes out his melee, by which time he should be dead. If you can't afford to get that close at that point in time, just cut his line of sight and go minding other business for a while. If you're a heavy for instance, tough luck playing against a competent guy playing your hard counter I guess. There are always options for cutting line of sight though, and you can do things like jumping when expecting the shot to land to invoke a bodyshot for instance, you can strafe left-right a bit until he takes his shot then cut the line of sight as he reloads, or just spin really quickly (depending on class, spinning can be very effective at wiggling your head hitbox). One thing that really screws up with snipers is airstrafing, just jump and strafe towards him, absolute best thing is full stop which they never expect. Keep in mind though that just regular jumping makes your trajectory perfectly predictable.
I find competent snipers and spies fun to counter (except for the tedium of spamming down the DR spy's resistance before inevitably killing him anyway), but the problem is that you can't really learn that without being one yourself. Goes for every class, but these two stand out what with them being hard to get a hang of and not at all rewarding at first.

if it worked i wouldn't have anything against it, but it doesnt at all, so fuck it

With anything but snipers its pretty counterable, scouts get shredded by sentries, spies can be avoided by being attentive and staying out of melee range, heavies are just big fat targets, demos are vulnerable to any good close range attack plus attacks from above. pyros are pretty weak to everyone if you stay at mid range, engineers have spies, explosives and general teamwork, and medics are countered by other medics and rely on there pockets, as for snipers well unless you also spent 5,000 hours learning how to be a better sniper than him youre pretty much out of luck. You used to be able to go spy but they gave sniper like 4 or 5 counter spy unlocks so thats no longer really valid.
Snipers aren't overpowered of difficult to counter, they have similar weaknesses to the engineer. The only reason why the sniper feels unfair and unfun to play against is that there's a complete lack of interactivity when getting attacked by a sniper. If you accidentally end up in their line of sight you cant really do anything but pray that they miss.
you just said snipers arent difficult to counter, and than just mentioned the main reason why they are difficult to counter? Do you understand how to english?
Darwin's Danger Shield
Also the fact that medals clip with EVERYTHING on Medic
Überchains are for nazis, literally.
The other day 2 Medics, named respectively Heinrich Himmler and Hermann Fegelein, joined a match on a Valve server (on Hightower) with full-blown fascist gear: the Ward, the Combat Medic's Crusher Cap, the Flair! and the Conscientious Objector with swastikas, the profile image, everything.
Luckily, due to their choice of melee weapon, their strategy fell flat quickly.
Note: This post is a joke (albeit authentic) and under no circumstances a rant against Überchains. I'm sorry if I offended someone.

Man, the tf2 community is absolutely toxic.
First there was this douche complaining about people wanting to scramble.
[t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/686019835706390557/C8409E1B225DE347FC1714D26EBF493CC90DEA02/[/t]
Meanwhile on the roofs of our last spawn

And finally when they utterly steamrolled us, another scramble vote was issued because the teams were still stacked as high as the empire state building. Still didn't pass.
So I left.
The trick is to stay outside of their line of sight while they are alive, and if no one can get to them that means that you are on the part of the map where your team has to do a big push.
Actually, there are a few things i found about countering snipers
I mainly run scout, so these are my tactics as scout. when i spot a sniper who seems to be reking the server and has the brightest unusuals on, i rely on my team and his skill. Im an aggressive player and that alone will influence the outcome. Snipers who get a lot of kills are usually aggressive, and their pattern mostly is - stand back, shoot/kill everyone in vicinity, move up once cleared previous area, shoot/kill things in vicinity, repeat
But there are two things that break the cycle. You always have to turn the situation into your advantage and boil it down to your skill, not his.
If he is getting too much pressure, he will retreat, and you will most likely be close to him enough so that you will be able to get the jump on him and he'll have to pull out his melee or smg or whatever, then it all boils down to your aim. Next is getting the jump on him while hes distracted. If he doesnt move up and is more surrounded by his teammates, your team would probably retreat so as to not get picked by the sniper, which means his team would move in, and the sniper will most likely stay out. As an aggressive scoot, i move in a way that makes it so i have less of a chance to be in his fov and be spotted by his team, and flank or run up in front of him. It all boils down to your aim now. If he moves in with his team, then you can flank the push, pick him only then escape
Those are the two most common scenarios ive dealt with in pubs with good enemy snipers. They will catch on after the second attempt or third, but will always still be distracted by killing my team, its just a matter of searching for openings/patterns and being aggressive yourself. Ive gotten comp level snipers doing these tactics, and some even rage too
But take of this what you will, because its all situational in the end

Making shittalker look like an idiot by constantly saving his ass during each of his fuck ups? Votekick.
2fort, when the enemy has a sentry and heavy-medic combo, in your basement.
Soneone's trying to kick me while I'm playing, I suspect it's because of me talking.
Fucking animals, when will they ever learn.
Okay, remember when i've said that i hate getting stuck in a corner, even though you are sure you were able to get behind it while running away? Appearently, those small corners also block a fucking Jarate/Mad Milk splash! I threw a Mad Milk on a Heavy,he stood a little higher than the bottle i threw to the point you can go up with 1 small step, so it would hit him. Wrooong! That tiny ass corner, blocked it.
Corners are evil.
guess that compensates all those times the splash goes through floors
Spies
Seriously, fuck them all
with all the reworks going around to appeal to the pubs, i'm really surprised that Sniper hasn't received some kind of nerf or rework.
A class with a skill ceiling so high that Pros have a tough time dealing with a good one can't possibly be fun for a pub player, can it?
i'd hardly say sniper has a high skill ceiling. you might refer to actual proficiency with the class wich is what determines a good sniper from another.
Spies
Seriously, fuck them all
Especially when half of the enemy team goes spy because they aren't able to kill my sentry and absolutly no teammate will help you. I fought not less than 21 spies in less than 4 minutes in a pub game. Literally 1 spy Every. Fucking. 10 seconds.
