Didn’t the developers do that to prevent people from using their teammates as shields while shooting projectiles through them?
no
the whole aspect of stuff colliding with teammates is to create a "doubt" about said teammate being an enemy spy or not. it's from another era.
so you can thank spy for all this mess

Source? I'm confident the first statement is true.
But that also happens to normal rockets too, which can end up blowing yourself up when a rocket decides to colide with a teammate at the worst possible time.
Not really possible. The rockets only explode on teammates when you're a bit more far away from them. They also made it so Throwables have that kind of behavior in the Invasion Update.
Snipers are annoying to fight against and always attract the absolute worst players so I wish they would quit being a staple of the genre

comp/skilled snipers are a pain in the ass, but average pub snipers? oh man, those guys are like tasty morsels for my strange shotgun.

I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry when I'm charging a cow mangler shot and some dang goofer parks his ass right in front of me and I shoot him instead of the sentry/crowd of people
So is it probable that they'll introduce a new contract campaign in February as that is when the current one ends?

If projectiles colliding with teammates really is for spy's sake, I say go ahead and buff disguises so that projectiles always pass through teammates and fully disguised spies.
If it's to prevent people using teammates as a shield, maybe someone could educate me on how that would be a useful thing to do at all? Seems like something that would only come up in severe choke-point situations.

but then how do I kill a Spy that I know is a Spy?
use hitscan/use melee/shoot feet
Do you think we'll ever get some scratch mark or dent decals so melee weapons don't leave bullet holes in things?
use hitscan/use melee/shoot feet
that's pretty ridiculous tbh, I'm just gonna want to take a quick potshot as Soldier/Demo and shouldn't have to switch weapon or do reduced splash damage to do so
Heaven forbid that downtrodden soldiers and demos become 1% less effective at battling the mighty spy.

guess what the original maps of tf2 consisted of

In other words, it's a wholly archaic feature
Heaven forbid that downtrodden soldiers and demos become 1% less effective at battling the mighty spy.
just seems like an unrealistic expectation to expect everyone to re-learn this so late in the games life, if it was a built in minor downside of the projectile based classes since day 1, then sure
also it would affect huntsman snipers who, with a shield or jarate equipped, would have no way of inflicting ranged damage on spys at all
NeoDement come on. You're seriously wringing your hands about the idea of spy potentially countering certain loadouts of sniper?

This is ridiculous, why would you think a shooting teammate is a spy? I'd rather bet on the teammate shield theory.
[editline]18th January 2018[/editline]
They're both stupid and make no sense but hey.
Hitting teammates with your own projectiles no longer has a place in this game, and the game would often be a hell of a lot more fun if that feature were removed.
If you say you are quickbuying unusuals and it takes you over 24 hours to respond even though you have been online multiple times, then you should stop calling it quickbuying.
Would the first person arm models being updated break anything? Like removing Sniper's extra glove or just improving the models.
NeoDement come on. You're seriously wringing your hands about the idea of spy potentially countering certain loadouts of sniper?
yes, it's a fairly common sniper loadout? i think disabling projectiles hitting enemy spys is a really bad idea with any number of odd interactions that would occur
spy is meant to be weak once you know it's a spy. a spy running away from a group of soldiers could disguise himself and get away far easier than he should be able to, for example
it would also be stupidly inconsistent
it would also be stupidly inconsistent
There actually is some consistency, would you believe it?
Standard projectiles do not penetrate through teammates: Rockets, Stickies, Syringes, Bolts, Laser Beams, Flares
The exceptions are projectiles that explicitly do not handle falloff or rampup (as well as weapons that explicitly pierce things anyway): Arrows, Grenades, Cleavers
Unifying the systems is a decent idea, but how Spy is handled with regards to it makes a world of difference.
Is literally the only reason why people even want the projectile collision changed because one time they shot a rocket or grenade and it hit a teammate? Because that's what it seems like. I don't think projectile collision on teammates has nearly as much potency in the game as you few think it does, and this is the first time I've actually seen people even bring it up.

isnt that kinda the point of a tank class though?

Even though I posted it, I'm not at all convinced that it would be a good idea.
Although if the only arguments against it are soldiers having a moderately harder time and sniper being countered by by spy some of the time (which I thought was supposed to be how it works pretty much all the time), then I'm starting to come around to it.
Surprised no one has brought up demo being borderline defenseless vs. spy in that scenario. To me the clear standout loser would be grenade launchers.

I was refering to the "If projectiles colliding with teammates really is for spy's sake, I say go ahead and buff disguises so that projectiles always pass through teammates and fully disguised spies." making spies effectively immune against certain projectiles
which would be stupidly inconsistent
shooting a scorch shot flare into allies to create a small deterrent agaisnt spies is good tho.
but in all seriusness, i've never had any issues with projectiles and their collision with allies. its a rather natural thing tbh by now.
I can't imagine a single spy main objecting to removing shots being caught by teammates.
It never actually benefits Spy.
