I've played on Exor's server a few times and if you play on it a lot (like Exor does) I think you're going to get very good at the game. It's deathmatch Hightower with 32 player slots and fast respawn. There seems to be a lot of regulars who are really good at the game too. Anytime the server is decently populated there's good enemies everywhere nearly all the time. I don't play comp so I can honestly say that his server is the one that's probably put my TF2 skills to the test more than any other server I've played on. I've also played some matchmaking with Exor and some of his server regulars once and skill wise we so far above the enemy team that we spawn camped the 3 exit spawn on Kong King so badly that we just completely shut down the enemy. I really felt bad for the enemy team because honestly playing against us just couldn't be any fun.
This is one of the reasons why I don't find Casual to be that enjoyable, to be honest. This is compounded by the fact that people in Casual tend to leave and requeue when they face significant opposition, and the servers empty out.

And I can't practice anything Medic-related since it's a DM server, so I have to play Casual if I want to get better at things like reading the scoreboard to know when to push (instant respawn in DM servers completely remove that aspect of gamesense), heal order, uber counting (lol), etc etc. The only thing I can practice Medic-wise in DM servers is surfing rockets and surviving, but since it's a DM server it's not representative of the gameplay you'll find in 6s (where you actually have an idea of where people are going to be at pretty much all times). That server isn't fun for me.
Needle guns are strangely fun to use in pubs - spend like an hour getting used to the projectiles and the amount of leading you have to do, then just wreak havoc on the enemy team as you suck away their health. With some good movement and leading people into 1v1s, you can seriously annoy the enemy team. Use the vaccinator and have ubers ready (on the occasion you actually heal anyone just to get some uber+ubersaw) if you need to bug out, and you can survive for quite a while. That said, you're only going to be annoying the enemy team, not demolishing them, so...
In around three months it will be the tenth anniversary of the Gold Rush Update and the Payload gamemode! Looked at the Gold Rush map on the tf2 wiki trying to see the update itself for the date and saw this neat artwork of the cart.
Hightower is a fun dick around map, but never expect balanced gameplay on it.
it's not fun in any context

32 man instant respawn hightower sounds like the shittiest tf2 experience imaginable
32 man instant respawn hightower-tier sounds like the shittiest tf2 experience imaginable
*all crits
*all crits
all crits would actually make hightower more balanced than normal, what with the sniper lines and dozen drop points for spies.
Honestly the best way to practice medic for competitive is just doing pugs. There really isn't any better way.
it'd be nice if na pugchamp wasn't people yelling at each other and tf2center let people play that use adblock
On the subject of medic's syringe guns, I think it'd be a good idea to nerf the damage of the crossbow to the point where it can't be used for self defense at all, so you're sacrificing self defense for the ability to long range burst heal teammates, and buff all the syringe guns so that they deal actual damage and reload while inactive
You guys join a server or be in one and then later some guy spamming bible verses on the mic pops in? This is the third time I've seen him.
Never seen him but I got a mic spammer a few days ago then I was playing cp_steel named 'satisfaction', who kept playing this Surprisingly no one kicked him.
So I actually had a dream about TF2 last night, specifically getting the Heavy update. The update itself was water themed (presumably because my brain said water contrasted with inferno) and the marquee weapon that Heavy got was a large wildcat that was a replacement for his minigun. It was passive, gave you a speed boost, and pressing right click would launch it at somebody. It also sat on his shoulder like the new dog cosmetic. Props to my brain for being original I guess?
32 man instant respawn hightower-tier sounds like the shittiest tf2 experience imaginable
My server doesn't have instant respawn, thankfully. And I thought that description would be more accurate of Dustbowl or any other map full of chokepoints.
Don't nerf the X-Bow. Buff the needle guns to its level.
Why is that everyone who sells a bill's hat is selling a painted one? I'm not buying, I'm just wondering.
A water themed update with this map, Hadal could be nice.
Read that as Halal.
it's not fun in any context
Wow it's almost like people can have differing opinions
Kind of interesting how in the map theme poll, urban was the most popular until dam beat it out.
Or just make them shoot needles in a straight line, not in arc.
That's one thing I never really understood about the syringe guns in TF2... Was having them arc for a sake of realism or something? The older games the medic ran with a Super Nailgun, which shot the nails in a similar fashion ( although, no spread at all ) in a straight line. Don't really see why Valve would had to have changed it... Unless maybe if was effective at quickly killing stationary targets like engineer buildings or something I dunno... Or maybe realism, since I can't see a real Syringe Gun actually shooting syringes out that far without them falling to the floor lol.
If keeping an arc is necessary, double the length of the current arc. Allow it to heal teammates at the same rate as the Crossbow (if you were to hold M1 for both of them at a teammate).
Sadly I'll be stepping down from competitive TF2, really started to get stale for me, It's fun to play with fun people, but It's quite saddening that teams never stick together for the next season/s, since someone leaves TF2 or just doesn't want to play anymore. Guess It's time for me aswell. Heads up to someone who is trying to get into 6's. Do it, If you find a proper team who is willing to teach you , It gets loads of fun. The reason I'm stopping playing 6's is because for me it got really repetitive. I really hope Valve does something about TF2 Comp, give us official tournaments or something :(

Is there a list anywhere of pictures of TF2's main menu through the years? Would like to see the different versions throughout TF2's history.
I'm getting so sick of being put on games that are hightower exclusively. Like jesus people vote for something else for pete's sake. I've removed it from my queue but it's like people are obsessed with this map. I finish one enjoyable game of one map I haven't played in a god damn while and hightower shows up. AND EVERYBODY FUCKING VOTES FOR IT. It's gotten so annoying since people only play hightower. Not to mention I sometimes swear that I have hightower unchecked from my queue and it sitll puts me in hightower games. I swear to god this map is gonna be the end of me.

So if the GC puts you in a server that's playing upward, but as you're joining the map switches to hightower, you'll end up connecting to a hightower server. Sometimes it's pretty seamless and you don't realize it switched on you.
