I'm still baffled by people who say they need to wait around when they run to the battlefield with the GRU. Do people just not realize that they can switch off the fists before they reach the front lines and be back to full health before they arrive? You get less of a speedup than you would with previous GRU but you're still getting there a lot faster than without any speedup.
Yeah it's always possible to be caught off guard by an enemy you weren't expecting (and that could happen with the old GRU as well) but if you have decent game sense the GRU downside wont affect you 95% of the time aside from having to swift off it a little big sooner than you would the old one.
I think GRU would work better if they gave it Escape Plan's downside of "marked for mini-crits while equipped and shortly after" and add on that it gives you a longer mini-crit mark the longer you have it out, and maybe disable the speedboost while jumping so you cant quickswitch it to avoid the downside.
For example, if you only very quickly switch to it for half of a second, it'll last for its current length (I think .5 seconds), but if you have it out the entire time you're running to the objective, you'll have it for like 2 seconds after. Apply this stat to the Escape Plan as well and boom, somewhat more balanced. Maybe ramp up the speed over a short amount of time for the helluvit if they're still a bit too stronger?
And yes, I know it was already tried out, but IMO GRU was the healthiest at that point, and even if it wasnt, FOS is always gonna rain supreme in its place. It is right now, after all.
The health downside is stupid, Health as a stat is already a big problem and you wait so long to get your health back that you might as well just use the FOS. If a Sniper sees you it's already insanely easy for them to pick you off, and it becomes a lot easier when you're manually draining your max health to the point they can quicksope headshot you for a kill.
It's fine the way it is.
It's fine the way it is.
Thanks for your input.

Still prefer FOS.
"Just get better" eh? No skill you say?

Here's a pyro is broken video in an actual game environment.
Is this supposed to be impressive? Not only is the pyro getting successful ambushes off and not getting shot at all in most of those, it still takes him a while to kill people.
Is this supposed to be impressive? Not only is the pyro getting successful ambushes off and not getting shot at all in most of those, it still takes him a while to kill people.
You've missed the point of the video. You aren't supposed to play pyro like that, spasming around like a moron ambushes or no.
;52917938']
I think it's a huge nerf, what's the point of getting the battle fast when by the time you arrive, you basically have no health and wait to wait for it to regen .... which defeats the purpose of getting there fast. You may aswell run fists.
I switched to the holiday gloves since they have a lot more use not to mention you can potentially fuck an uber over.
What would people say about giving the force a nature knockback the Airblast treatment?
I wish Valve would remove uberchaining, it's the most unfun thing to fight against.
I wish Valve would remove uberchaining, it's the most unfun thing to fight against.
Yeah, let's just completely remove the medic class while we're at it.
You've missed the point of the video. You aren't supposed to play pyro like that, spasming around like a moron ambushes or no.
Is it bad that I don't do that and I still preform way better then that player did. They were extremely slow at getting things done and good luck airblasting anything when shaking around like that.
But more importantly though, can we get a similar video against people who didn't install the game what feels like 10 hours prior to that match? I'm curious to see how effective that playstyle is against high end players...

Spawn camping ya say?

I believe demomen still has everyone beat on effortless spawn camping lol...
Yeah, let's just completely remove the medic class while we're at it.
Imagine Engineer stacking too without medics to help break huge nests...
Unless you have immense amounts of time to live with said downside (piddle around waiting for the health to regen) then the downside eclipses the weapon's usefulness.
Or, you could just use it to flee combat like people are doing now which defeats the point of the heavy's speed downside. Another reason why this downside sucks.
Whatever you are doing, you are using the GRU wrong. You're not supposed to GRU straight up to the battlefield on 100 health. You're supposed to put them away before you get to the front lines so that your health can regen. Just like how you were supposed to put away the old GRU before you got to the front lines so the minicrits could wear off. The weapon is supposed to have a downside, it's not supposed to let you GRU all the way up to enemy spawn and just pull out your Minigun on 300 health.
Yes, Demoman is the best class in the game for spawn camping; he also needs prediction and spatial awareness (ironically) to succeed at standard combat. The prerequisites for success as Pyro are having a functional mouse and keyboard, or maybe a steering wheel.
they just need to make flames misseable again and everything will be fine

literally every class has means to either escape and push back that thing or is predisposed to not actually being in their way. even heavy can stun them with holiday punch.

Stop fighting people who are bad at the game then
Also have they abandoned Mann Co. Sales?
Stop fighting people who are bad at the game then
Not a very easy thing to do nowadays.
Stop fighting people who are bad at the game then
Nah, I can fight people who are good at the game and win just as well by wiggling my mouse with a flamethrower.
"I don't know how to fight against it therefore it's OP"
Stop defending pyro's absurd brokenness as his victims being bad at the game.
Would you like me to cheaply kill you like this? I don't even play pyro and I guarantee I'll take most of your health every time flamethrower range is entered.
There is no fighting against something you can't dodge.
"I don't know how to fight against it therefore it's OP"
Nah it's more like Pyro is a short-range mobile sentry now.
Kinda difficult to fight against that. Basically when you step into his flame bubble you're on a timer, no way to dodge or psyche him out. You can win by outdamaging him or if you catch him out outside his range, but other than that not much you can do. Not invincible or uncounterable, just kinda BS.
They just need to fix that dumb bug where you flail your mouse around. I've gotten so many kills in places I should have died just because I just shake my mouse like a lunatic.
They just need to fix that dumb bug where you flail your mouse around. I've gotten so many kills in places I should have died just because I just shake my mouse like a lunatic.
The fact that its taking them so long (whereas other bugs like no damage at point blank range were fixed quickly) indicates that they're having difficulty fixing it.
Or that they have reverted back to their 2-years-for-balance-changes work schedule.

it's gonna take a year at least to make them understand what's wrong in the first place
It could have been an intended feature.
It could have been an intended feature.
Technically, this could actually be true. It might have been made this way to fix the reliability issue with flame particles. Meaning, it could be working as intended...

"Player feedback indicates that Pyro is now the single most powerful class in the game. Good job everyone! Looks like the Jungle Inferno update is a complete success!"
