It's....immeasurable. You can't measure the time it takes to complete these contracts. It's just not feasible. There are too many variables. At best you can assume they'd take a long time. Maybe you get a bunch of really good teams that let you breeze through the contracts and their side-missions. At worst you get shit teams that mean you have to spend hours on end. You literally can't measure it. If you wanted you could farm them with friends but even then it's still immeasurable, you have to factor in finding empty servers, making sure the servers stay empty so you can complete the contracts, whether or not your friend(s) are quick enough to get back to you whenever they die... there's hundreds upon thousands of tiny variables that make it literally impossible to measure. Also going "wow u guys sure are butthurt about the word 'speedrun' lel" when -you- made the mistake of assuming a game like TF2 could be speedrun'd is childish.
I know tf2 can't be speedrun'd, I just used the word in a casual way since it's the closest to what I meant and I assumed people would understand it; and as it turns out, people didn't and are taking it incredibly seriously. As far as the rest goes; Not really. I'm not asking for an exact timing, just for a rough estimate; an average. A hunch. I didn't expect people to take such a casual question that seriously in all honesty. Though, if you were to play with a 6 man team of pubgods, I'd estimate you could do it under 5 hours. Probably. Reason I'm asking is because I'm considering trying it out, a few buds - In the last 10 hours or so of the Campaign trying to gun for the 100% under time pressure must be pretty tough. Good enough challenge atleast.
I get some consolation out of making good players switch to a bad class like spy just for me. i'm making it easier for my team in a way.
Relevant achievement: Reminds me that im pretty sad we didn't get any new achievements for the Jungle Inferno updates and that chances are that Contracts will replace them in the future.
How long would a speedrun of the Jungle Inferno Campaign take? Any% and 100%. I seriously have no idea and kinda wanna try it out.
If we are speaking in a 100% controlled environment, extremely quickly as it's not hard to cheese contracts with the help of friends. In a normal pub environment, probably some time comparable to how long it takes the average person as it is.
Wow, we're almost done with the thread. What should the next be called? TF2 Chat and Speculation V6 - Heavy Troubles
but the detonator can actualy lift you, even though now with the thermal thruster it kinda got redunted at this point,it still has splash mini crits so that is something.
I've used the Thermal Thruster a ton and while it's fun to play with, an actually good player will not have need for the mobility it offers in a lot of cases. People think it's the end-all solution to Pyro's mobility issues. The Detonator works fine for getting to most places at the cost of some health, but at least I can pull out my primary when I'm falling toward an enemy. Hell, a friend of mine was trying to harass me while wearing the thruster on Doublecross. Flies toward me and I headshot them and they fall backward. I hit them at a close enough range that they flew backward and fell into the abyss of the map. Anybody with any aiming ability will destroy a Thermal Thruster Pyro and that's the same case with the current BASE Jumper. They're useful for certain playstyles but for the mass majority of people it's still pretty bad. I wouldn't switch off my Detonator for slightly higher jumps.
Thermal Thruster would be so much better if it were a 4th slot weapon like PDA or Disguise Kit. Then reduce the holster time so you can get your flamethrower out by the time you land, and suddenly you have a dangerous, mobile Pyro. Fix flames first though.
Why don't we just play TF2 and not try to "speedrun" it.
what's the point in video games if not for speedrunning them?
Playing them, for one
ya but a team based first-person shooter?
The more stupid a speedrun is, the better
guess what "speedrunning" is for many people
Completing the Jungle Inferno contracts was hell even without the additional constraint of trying to do it as fast as possible. I fail to see how this could possibly be fun - unless you have a torture fetish or something.
The more stupid a speedrun is, the better
Somehow, that logic makes sense.
How do you get rid of an incomplete contract that you've turned in already, from the HUD? I've done my Thermal Thruster contract and I don't want the Hot Hand, so I'm not worrying about blasting enemies with the damn thing. How do I get rid of that objective from the screen?
You can turn off the entire contracker if you're done with everything you wanted to do. I'm not going to be playing TF2 again until I've set up my new computer, so I'll try then (should be a few hours).
2fort is better than turbine
i don't get the turbine hate yeah you get pinned in your base if you're on the losing team ... just like every other map. big deal but the mid fights are amazing DM fun if both teams can consistently face eachother.
2fort is better than turbine but worse than sawmill. Doublecross falls inbetween, It's alright, but not as good as 2fort.
No. Doublecross. [Gaben-sized space.] Sawmill or Well (I find them to be different but equal and I miss both of them terribly.) 2Fort. [Several Gaben-sized spaces.] Turbine.
I heard from one guy that he took of all of his cosmetics when pubbing because people pocket you/focus you/hit you with frying pans in spawn when you've got 3 unusuals on. When you're playing on a pub you typically don't want the entire server to know that you've got 8k hours in the game or for them to identify you as a particular comp player.
this is the reason why I don't wear very many cosmetics. at the time of writing, the only cosmetic I have in my inventory (other than achievement hats) is the dr. whoa. it's also because I'm fond of the default look of the characters.
i don't get the turbine hate yeah you get pinned in your base if you're on the losing team ... just like every other map. big deal but the mid fights are amazing DM fun if both teams can consistently face eachother.
Turbine is a boring, bland, uninteresting map. It's just a big wide-open room and 2 looping, symmetrical paths that lead to the intel rooms. It's basic mapping 101. 2Fort and Double Cross have much more interesting map layouts with tons if interesting and unique paths depending on what class you choose. Turbine has... a vent, and a path that forces you to walk through the enemy's spawn area with no cover.
2fort is the worst fucking map in team fortress 2 and you cant tell me otherwise It's like the magnetic negative of hightower; too little healthpacks, get hit in the main area? either go to sewers, or go back to spawn EDIT: You better be calling the next thread "General Chat and Update Speculation Station: Year of the Guard Dog" or ill spank you
Turbine is a boring, bland, uninteresting map. It's just a big wide-open room and 2 looping, symmetrical paths that lead to the intel rooms.
having no props or detail is very healthy for gameplay
It really isn't.
and the opposite is not.
We had like 20 pages about how annoying Sniper can be and how controlling he is for the game. Big empty spaces like in Turbine are exactly why he can be such a problem.
nobody likes to backpedal into into 1 inch wide prop sides, nobody sits down and analyzes the beauty of maps in the middle of a match, nobody likes to see their frames halved for useless stuff.
I wasn't even talking about that, I was talking about the actual map design and layout and again how it's literally just a giant square with 3 paths that converge on the same route which is incredibly bland, boring, and uninteresting, but okay.
turbine's large rooms is perfect for skilled plays and moves. that map has a place for virtually any loadout or item to shine.
Large empty squares are perfect for combat classes, yes. This is not news. Doesn't mean it's fun.
2fort is Junction in CTF form but apparently people would never admit it. that's the real worst map in the game
I have a feeling that you're actually in the minority here and just don't want to admit it. It's okay to not like popular maps. I can't stand Hoodoo even though it's one of the most popular casual Payload maps. I hate plain stock Viaduck even though it's probably top 3 in KOTH map picks next to Sawmill and maybe Nucleus.
2Fort is the De_dust of TF2. nobody cares if its ugly or poorly made, by now its basically so iconic and simple you're bound to play it till the end. dustbowl, on the other hand.
