How can an Australian play on NA servers with far greater ping than it would be for us, the Europeans?
I don't whine and I usually play for fun and enjoy my social activity with others. If ping is that all that matters to you then you'll never satisfy yourself.
I've also gotten used to playing at stupidly high ping to play with my friends over a good few years.
That's actually a fair point. However, I prefer balanced approach. It's not possible for me to enjoy any game with pretty high ping.
Well if you were awake earlier you would of caught the EU one which was pretty successful.
Like a few hours earlier.
Actually, I did join when group notification appear. But then server crashed(?) and it didn't show up in my favourites tab.
And then I didn't bother to wait for it to re-appear so what I did is I cured the sick man of Europe.

The Server was acting up and we had to put it down for 5 minutes, then it went up again, had a good 2 hour session with players goin from 16-20, was p gud.
Yo, did Valve break Strange Filters? I'm trying my best applying it to one of my stranges but with no success lmao
I mean, there isn't an alarm that goes off in every TF2 server when somebody plays using a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, they probably had no idea either way.

Maybe the TF2 team should get some inspiration from Mario Kart where the scoreboard shows if you're using motion controls.
I just played Mann Up MvM with an Xbox controller and didn't do so bad, actually. Not one vote kick attempt.
flashbacks to pre-tide turner days when you could use a controller to turn on a dime with any shield
I had noticed something;
Each server has an ID assigned to it, and it's shown in console when you finish loading on the server
For example, a casual Valve server has an id of [A:1:1876364296:9338], with the console showing the message "Recognizing MM server id [A:1:1876364296:9338]"
The same also applies to a community servers as well
What i have also noticed, is that when you queue and get a server, you are assigned to a certain server by it's id, for example I disconnected from the server i was connected to, and i've got this message up in console
"Sending request to abandon current match
Sending request to exit matchmaking, marking assigned match as ended
Lobby destroyed
Lobby received with a differing steamID. Lobby's: [I:0:0] CurrentlyAssigned: [A:1:1876364296:9338] ConnectedToMatchServer: 0 HasLobby: 0 AssignedMatchEnded: 1"
And whats giving me questions, is why community servers also get an id assigned to it, and as i just told you, you get connected to valve servers based on the server id you are assigned, but why would community servers get one?
I'm thinking that TF2 team could be putting server id's on community servers just because, or because they want to add some type of queue for community servers, that could put you on a community server based on criteria you'd choose (assuming that it works like a casual queue with few extra options)
I'm not really sure if thats old or new, but i'm almost certain that server id thing is new

I keep running into this hacker called Twilight Sparkle. I wonder when he's gonna get banned because jesus, I swear he's been going at it for months.

Seems like a silly justification, if they wanted the weapon to work exactly like the TFC counterpart it could headshot at any charge and shooting people's legs would slow them down. You'd also be able to switch the weapon to full auto mode. Obviously it'd be massively broken.
But yeah I can see the actual reason why it can't be fired while jumping. It'd get pretty silly.

On EU servers, right? Ran into two KOTH games with him the other day and just left quickly, because it was obvius that he has a cadre of buddies with him (I checked and found that several people in the server on his team were on his Friends list) that act dumb and oblivious to hackusations, so voting him off is highly unlikely.
It's an acocunt that seems to be doing it for months, advertises Lmaobox in their profile, has a YT channel with 8 months of constant videos on lmaobox/lithium/Nullcore use, has a recent VAC ban from just 20 days ago, and goes around with an Unusual Sniper Rifle and an Unusual hat, so it's likely they're pretty confident in not getting banned anytime soon.
I still say TF2 desperately needs a cadre of Valve-endorsed admins that are allowed to act on a bunch of in-game reports on a specific player happening at once, then secretly drop into Valve servers, spectate and permaban the obvious fuckers.
I know a small team couldn't handle all the reports on the hundreds of servers, and it's possible people would find a way to abuse it and waste the shadow-admin's time by having several people report one innocent guy... But I still think that they could manually hunt down and get rid of the most blatant, cocky cheaters out there. Surely, if one guy gets reported for cheating by 5+ people on a server around the same time, there's a high chance that they might indeed by shady if they managed to piss off a big part of a server, right? A red alarm should go off to all the admins and they could secretly join and investigate the matter.
Maybe I'm just being naive and there's no technical way to have invisible admins ad-hoc joining MM Valve servers, but if there's a possibility, I'd definitely support it. Maybe they wouldn't get all cheaters, but the really obvious, dedicate ones that pride themselves on frustrating and ruining entire servers would get gunned down Wild West-style pretty quickly. It's not like there's hundreds of them, and the blatant ones with possies of friends would surely make a big stir if we had a live-report system for cheaters.

Pretty fitting considering that TF2 supports motion controls by default with the Steam Controller.

It is possible to set up a gotv sorta thing, but it's pretty resource intensive and might take a lot of effort to get it working
And yeah I definitely support this idea, long as there's measures in place to prevent abuse

there are thousands of players named as such in TF2 currently

Not being able to fire while jumping is a reasonable restriction though. You wouldn't want to have to deal with a sniper whose only time his head is exposed is for the half second that he jumps to pop your head off and then he's back behind cover once more. Even with all the restrictions it has on headshots, that alone is a bullshit situation that no one wants to have to encounter. Hell, the only iteration of Sniper that has been able to fire his rifle while jumping is the Rifleman, and he exists in an environment where there are no headshots and jumping is a core tenant of moving around -- he's still annoying to deal with when he peeks out like that.
Classic really just needs to actually be good at what its apparent design is: a sniper rifle that gives the user a wider field of view and a better opportunity to respond to their surroundings as a result. The current restrictions, however, mean that at best you get a piddly bodyshot off on someone and then are forced to engage them with the submachine gun or your machete if you want any hopes of surviving since you have no real form of burst damage.
Optimally, they could lift a concept straight out of TFC to give the Classic a bit more strategic use for self-preservation and for teamfights. This is my approach:
Legshots slow target based on charge, up to 1 full second at max.
Bodyshots deal directional knockback that scales with damage.
Personally I would also allow headshots at any charge [sp]and move the fullcharge restriction to the huntsman[/sp] but let's start off with these 2 debuff concepts before making leaps and bounds towards redesigning the damn thing from scratch.
I've run into them once or twice. Thankfully they're always votekicked pretty quickly, but it's disgusting how flagrant they are about it. Their account is always filled with hats and renamed decorated weapons, it's embarrassing that Valve haven't done anything yet.
I found a problem with steam controller support with the engineer's eureka effect tele menu. Who would I send an email to to report this?

It's worse, their Steam profile(s) openly state that they're cheat accounts, advertise blamobox and have a direct link to a YT channel with loads of uploaded videos of recorded TF2 gameplay using several different cheats.
It's a direct mockery of VAC's inefficiency in a free-to-play game, it's guys like this that should be hunted down and banned by a small group of employed full-time admins that had cross-server access.

After playing on your server the other day and getting headshotted several times with different classes by Roll using the Classic I'm fine with where the Classic currently stands lol...

You wanna know how to get email spam? That's how you get email spam.
They advertise their e-mail addresses on their official website, I think it's a bit unfair to accuse Blackavar of encouraging mailbox flooding.
well i for one am very pleased with the update. All the balance changes and new items gives me a big sense of revitalization towards the game with many new things to try. All the rebalanced items makes me not feel guilty if i use them, so i can take pleasure in trying out items i was against supporting. I look forward to competitive where i can try all these things in an actual focused enviroment, as well as what the future of tf2 Holds.

Where would that be? A cursory search didn't bring up their direct emails, instead links to a page that allows you to send them an email.

Valve also uses a standardized e-mail format for its employees, just like most companies (*first name**first initial of last name*@valvesoftware.com). Moreover, Eric Smith's e-mail address is also featured prominently on HLDS.

Neither of those contain the direct email address.
The reason it's bad to post email addresses in public places like this is because search engines and other web trawlers pick them up. Which means spam bots and services pick them up as well.
While his address has certainly been posted by others many times, that doesn't mean it's no longer bad form.

yea but there's a reason this thing stopping you from spamming them

also it doesn't matter how standard the format for the emails is, the problem is that spambots scan webpages for email addresses and add them to their spam lists. this is why people typically censor email addresses out
