What's so interesting about those videos where people troll kids?
What's so interesting about those videos where people troll kids?
mostly just people actually reacting to the stupid shit trolls do.
Like the vid a guy got in a tf classic map where he and his friends actually got somebody to type unbind all in console. It's interesting to see it actually happen.
Also that kind of stuff is funny to teenage boys. I should know, I was one and found the aforementioned vid hilarious at the time.
Or you know, they could unfuck the things we've been complaining about for seven or so years.
-Lousy anti cheat/antiquated report and votekick system
-Random Crits
-No team balance/scrambling after rage quitting rolls
-No ad hoc joining with the server browser.
-No class/team composition reminders or warnings like modem games have.
These are not new ideas. Some of them have been suggested for longer than other games have been in development, and valve has done absolutely squat.
That's why the game could be doing so much better. Valve is asleep at the wheel.
That won't bring in large sums of brand new players.
I'm talking about attracting players who have never played TF2 before in huge numbers. Everything you mentioned helps the game, but no in the manner to attract new players in large numbers.
Those are things you can't advertise in a game to attract players. Even if you did, they won't understand it ... you put "now with no random crits!" in the trailer or any advertisement, no person browsing the store will be like "WOW no random crits! I'll download this and see what the fuss is about!" - they'll just be like "WTF is random crits?".
I love The Classic, it's one of my guilty pleasures to use every once in a while. In a pub which I used to frequent, once I started using The Classic, another sniper in the other team would switch to it and we would have duels with the Classic and it was exciting and a lot of fun.
It has a few issues, though. The "hold and then release the button" for shooting feels really wonky and there's been lots of times for me where shooting at something results in no damage, even though the tracer is literally touching them. It should be one click for starting the charge, and another click for shooting. It also needs some button (like reload) to stop the charge instead of just having to switch weapons or shooting altogether, which would make it more usable.
But oh man, when you headshot somebody close-range and then they explode into a shower of gibs and blood... it's so satisfying.
The only reason I love the Classic is BECAUSE it releases to shoot. It's just like TFC and that's the whole gimmick. I know it has less damage output overall, but until I decided to make a big effort to Get Gud recently, it was the only way I could snipe. When it comes to sitting back and waiting to take a shot on Sniper, I find it far, far easier to release tension on the mouse in the instant I point at their head than to have to click during that instant. It might be weird but it's how I am.

Honestly Classic's issues is that once anything punctures your personal space bubble, you just die unless your SMG aim is true. If you whiff your headshot or only get them for 135, you don't have time to make another attempt since at best you'll ding them for 45. The time it takes do a bare minimum amount of damage to kill all but guarantees that you lose any sniper duels unless they just plain don't see you beforehand, which drastically cuts into the weapon's ability to get things done.
Sure, the weapon excels in scenarios where you're able to sit back and take shots. But TF2 at its core design is about getting up close for quick-ending skirmishes. And even though Sniper isn't about getting up close, his fights are still typically very fast and the Classic's inability to headshot for 4 seconds is at odds with this in most situations.

If they're serious about pushing competitive, they really ought to either replace a lot of the maps with the community pro versions or implement those changes to their maps.
If they're serious about pushing competitive, they really ought to either replace a lot of the maps with the community pro versions or implement those changes to their maps.
Not only that but I do find some of the pro maps much more fun. Viaduct comes to mind.
uhh that's like 80% of everyone in every game ever
Unfortunately, this is true. Express even a scintilla of dissatisfaction in chat or over the mic, and dozens of players--each looking to rub salt in your wound--will descend upon you like vultures to carrion. It's a sad reminder of the latent human indecency that bubbles to the surface when personal accountability is removed.
Not only that but I do find some of the pro maps much more fun. Viaduct comes to mind.
They're all more fun. Pro Turbine has reasonably large vents, and the vent going to the intel has a horizontal exit rather than a blind vertical drop so it's actually useful, there's also a second hall connecting mid to the lobby. Pro Barnblitz has a bunch more ways to approach its major chokepoints, probably the most extensive and the best pro conversion. Pro Badwater allows defenders to enter the interior area behind first point prior to it being capped and there's also an extra platform around the house over the ditch just before third. Basically, the theme is making the maps less restrictive and more free-flowing which is great for anyone, not just comp players.

sure, but I imagine that none of those elements are fun to absolute newbies. Many people will just outright stop playing a game if they're not masochists and their first few games are infested with hackers or bullshit. Getting rid of them leads to new players being more likely to stay with TF2.

I never understood why that additional path to Last on Barnblitz isn't available in the official version. The actual path is there and is completely mapped out, it's just blocked by some fences.

They had team scrambling before.
I like random crits.
Laughingly overpowered? I think they're still weak lol. It's actually giving me more enjoyment in the game running as Heavy as they're super easy to deal with on him. More so if they run that Jetpack so I can pin them to walls.
Also, Nah @ Phlog being removed... Make in MvM only, as it is still the worst primary for pyro even with new tools to get around like the jetpack. But don't touch my favorite Flamethrower ( well, it and Backburner ) for MvM... Also, I honestly will say if "removing a weapon from the game" is the only way you'll be happy with a game change, I won't be able to seriously take any of your suggestion serious again. I don't think anyone should take you even remotely serious if that's the best you have to offer at all.
The fact that you think pyro is weak, is the real laughing matter here.
And yes. The phlog, or at least it's stats need to be completely rethought for me to be happy, because it's whole design is basically the opposite of everything you want in a weapon. Unskilled, over-rewarding bad/overly passive play, and unhelpful to the team.

Watching the vermin attempt to defend themselves in the comments really shows how fucking sad these people are geez
As far as the rest goes; The TF Folk are back in their offices now. Chances are that this week we'll get an answer to if things like festive australiums and that entire Air Strike thing is intentional.
Wow, the catbot user banning thing was fake news? What does it say about Valve and VAC that literally everyone here believed it?

Probably some upset person who got VAC'd for cheating just making bullshit up. Doesn't surprise me.
Wow, the catbot user banning thing was fake news? What does it say about Valve and VAC that literally everyone here believed it?
I hate to say it but it does seem like something Valve would do.
The fact the cheat creator did change to program to give the bots different names adds to the believability.
I'm trying to think of what the ultimate purpose of the catbots is.
Is it so that one catbot account is used by a real, human cheater while the rest are automated buddies that prevent the cheater from getting kicked?
Or is it just the creator and certain users of catbots enjoying ruining servers with the ultimate goal of damaging the game's reputation? Because these catbots always fill a certain server in large numbers and they seem to always go for the most popular maps like Harvest, Hightower, 2Fort etc. Your typical TF2 cheater was usually one guy or a pair using hacks for their personal amusement, and they were actually playing with the intent of just annoying people and getting huge killstreaks. But these catbots seem like automated tools specifically made to completely shit all over Valve servers running popular maps, and to give an impression that the game is full of cheaters. Running into a lone hacker that gets kicked quickly once in a while is one thing, but regularly running into whole groups of cheating bot accounts infesting popular maps and gamemodes really gives a bad impression (especially to new players) and seems effective at damaging TF2's reputation.
Wow, the catbot user banning thing was fake news? What does it say about Valve and VAC that literally everyone here believed it?
People believed it because Kisak seemed to confirm it. Most likely it was just a misunderstanding on his part, the cheaters were banned for using the bot but he confirmed it was based on username instead.
Or perhaps, as McJohn said:
VAC has many different types of detections and we cannot discuss what they do publicly because doing so makes them less effective.
Perhaps they thought it was best to confirm the rumor rather than disclose how they were actually banned. The cheaters thought they had evaded the ban by generating random names, and a lot of them drew attention crying about it.
I'm sure they'll all learn from this, so i doubt we'll be seeing any "VAC banned based on username/host/etc" reports that accidentally get confirmed as genuine from now on.

Weird, because outside of puro d pyro fights, which it can be really difficult not to lose a lot of health in. I still find then easy unless I’m distracted or badly possitioned were it would be my fault, or they’re with a medic and are intellegent to know when to back off and when to push. Other wise they’re just as easy like before the JI update.
Regardless, I’m still waiting for upper upper level comps say, since they should get the final say in wither or not pyro is truly broken/op. Preferibly without any bias of course. Since they’ll almost always provide the most facts in the matter. I want to hear from people who can provide us with actual facts, something comp players tend to be good at providing and not ignorance and/or bias information most of everyone else provides.
Also, I pray valve never hears your cries about the phlog. Of all the flamethrowers to cry about you bicker about the worst one. Hell, I’ve seen even B4nny praise it as he feels it’s the best one for DMing.

Pyro doesn't matter in competitive format that much, It's not OP there because you have co-ordinated gameplay and only one class restriction. In 6's It's only good at defending last point, but you won't do much against DM god scouts.
Pyro in pubs however is broken and overpowered. It's not fun to get ambushed by multiply pyro's in a choke point, if pyro does not kill you his fadeaway flames from him dying will.
There.

Then for the most part it should be fine. If anything, it just needs fine tuning to better skill index the class. But balancing around pubs is not balancing in the slightest, it's dumbing the game down and all it will do is create even further game unbalances.
I've played way too many games and seen well over the years that this community, casually has no business touching game balance thanks to the sheer amount of stupidity that spews from the typical casual players mouth. This is also why the term "get good" was created, because it's often these casual players don't want to get better at the game, they want to make the game easier for them so they don't have to get better in the first place.

This game is based around pubs.
Competitive community are balancing the game themselves, weapon bans, class restrictions, etc etc. They are doing better job than Valve will ever do.
This game is based around pubs.
As I said, balancing around pubs is not balancing the game. It's dumbing down or making the game easier for them so they don't have to bother getting better. Ignorance, stupidity, bias are not good reasons to determine if a weapon needs fixing or not and actually listening to that garbage will only make the game even more unbalanced. Not to mention the casual voice tends to be all over the place... How the hell do you balance around a group of people who all have their on version of how it should be done?
Also, if MYM didn't make it more clear, it's now shifting towards a more competitive format regardless...

MYM is a great example about how Valve has no idea what TF2 competitive is.
