it would be interesting to see how valve will handle this, and i doubt they will sit and do nothing with this.
Anyone else is reminded of that clunky and horrible horror game THE FORGOTTEN ONES?
it would be interesting to see how valve will handle this, and i doubt they will sit and do nothing with this.
Why not? Unless the outrage reaches some bizarre heights, they can very well just pretend nothing happened.
Imagine giving so little of a shit about your own IP that you let someone do this and SELL IT
For a second I thought I was browsing a Star Wars thread.
I am not even joking.
But back to topic, it's not like the guys behind the mod are actually using the IP properly or are part of the canon. It's just fanfiction distributed by Valve/Steam and it's not even the first time they have done this.
it would be interesting to see how valve will handle this, and i doubt they will sit and do nothing with this.
In all honesty, what should or will they do? If someone complains about the stolen content and the game gets a DMCA notice, they will take it down. I even suspect that they will disable purchase for the game and "investigate" or get in touch with the mod team about the claims.
But they wont move a finger because people don't like the plot and voiceacting or because the game is too broken.

This "game" uses stolen assets. Pretty sure Valve can get in legal trouble for willingly selling this abomination.
Imagine giving so little of a shit about your own IP that you let someone do this and SELL IT
I appreciate the sentiment behind this but I'd much prefer to see what the community could do with the vessel of a game I created.
To the anon dev in this forum or anyone involved in the stream last night, can I get in contact with those devs that appeared on the stream? I'm currently asking questions to Mick "Rice Pirate" on discord who voiced the main character, I thought it would be kind of fun to write about the weird rollout and development of this game. Like make a VNN styled video about it.
Which stream are you talking about?
Imagine giving so little of a shit about your own IP that you let someone do this and SELL IT
It's less not directly giving a shit and more that Valve has always supported modding pretty heavily. This is actually pretty classic Valve.
I actually wish more companies let people sell fan tributes / games tbh. Imagine if the Morrowind remake got an official approval from Bethesda (Sadly they likely would screw them over but its better than nothing)
What they DON'T give a shit about, is quality assurance of what happens to third party content and stuff that actually makes it to steam.
Which stream are you talking about?
MacD's steam, a couple mappers came on to talk, and dropped good "concept art" of his.
i feel bad because i felt asleep in the very first ten minutes of mac's stream.
Rice Pirate Mick told me he didn't get paid yet even for being the main character of the game.
Watching the compilation of all of the SFM cutscenes. If they made a 2 hour free SFM movie instead of the abortion of a video game, this would have gone over better.
This "game" uses stolen assets. Pretty sure Valve can get in legal trouble for willingly selling this abomination.
The worst part is, if they had stuck with just stealing from free mods and the steam workshop, they would have gotten away with it. Remember paid mods for Skyrim: version 1.0? And how people immediately began charging for mods that featured stolen content from other mods? Valve didn't give a shit, and only canceled the whole thing because it lost them money. If it had actually been profitable, Skyrim modding would have been swallowed whole, and Valve would have laughed all the way to the bank.
I Will post the convo once I'm home and omit anything that needs to be
Rice Pirate Mick told me he didn't get paid yet even for being the main character of the game.
He didn't? Oh boy, it looks like all that effort was for nothing. He's not going to get any money.
Uploading the stream has been... Taking awhile. However, I'd like to take this moment to state that I'm going to stream this game again, this time with the cutscenes attached and in the proper order between maps.
Hopefully I'll be able to understand whatever story this game has better the next time around.
You'll post a link here for the second stream? I'll watch it through again. It's worth it just for the medkit stealing firefighter and mission critical headcrab. Also, the city 17 suicide bomber.
Pretty sure the scene ended because the zombie got in the elevator and the door closed, not because of the headcrab.

the what
the what
Mac had to restart the level when a headcrab got eaten by a barnacle. It faded to black as if Alyx died or you lost the jeep.
I'm playing on easy and can't get past the first part since they game decides not to give you enough ammo
How come nobody picked up on this whilst the public did through leaks?
Context please?
If you're talking about stolen assets, let me remind you no one had the game apart from three people. There was absolutely no communication between anyone, like hell we didn't even know who worked on what.
where did you work on? You may as well come clean and tell us who you really are
I've worked on some particle effects for the game. I'm credited as "Harry Dalton" in the game.
from what I’ve played 90% of the game isn’t original content. It’s all stolenz
I don't know how much content was stolen or created. That's up to people to find out - not me.
Did anyone even fall for the "it wasn't Freeman" twist ?
Why the hell would you hide Freeman's face in such an important scene if not for revealing it wasn't him later ? This cliché is so overdone I almost expected there would be a double twist or something, but I guess it'd be overestimating the writers.

This cone model found in the files has over 8k polys.

You can't claim such a thing and don't post a wireframe picture.

It's used all over Black Mesa which seems to actually be a source of some of the studdering.
We replaced the cone model with a one from CS:S with only a hundred or so polys and the studdering pretty much stopped in a lot of areas
How do I even get past all area with the Zombies that is suppose make the feel the game urgent, yet fails to do so?
Don't come off as offended. I'm only trying to understand the dysfunctional mess this is.
I never said I was offended. I just didn't understand the question that you asked.

I bet it has a 16k texture for no reason. I think the guy who modelled it had no idea what he was doing, this is such a simple object, yet it doesn't even have a hole
Hey Throwaway10, is it okay to ask if you can help get me in contact with those who worked on the game, maybe in discord. Just to ask questions about their development. I've only been in contact with Rice Pirate atm because he's the only one I have added on Discord already.
I give in, i'll just watch all of the cutscenes online. I got as far as towards the end of the third act before i gave up, locked in a instant death loop upon loading into the level.
The amazing lack of narrative within the maps outside of arbitrary bullshit is amazing. Nobody has anything to say, if anything very little. I have no fucking idea why it was even remotely acceptable to launch the game without cutscenes.
Even with cut scenes it takes the very core concept of what half life 2 did with it's interactive storytelling and launches it directly into the moon. It's been done well in other mods, far more successful than this one. (Underhell, Nightmare House 2, Black Mesa so many others..)
As for the content, yes. There is a significant amount of stolen content, it's jarring how much there is. It's even more jarring how much this "game" recycles from other valve source games. Namely L4D2 and Half-Life 2 : Episode 2.
It was more of those assets than anything else. It was especially bad towards the beginning of the game as i literally saw nearly the whole map filled with different vehicles and architecture from L4D2.
It wasn't even masking the fact that it was ripped by giving it a new skin or putting any level of effort into even making it remotely different from the source material.(heh)
God and the fucking running animations, I've got a migraine just thinking about the movement swaying from side to side uncontrollably freaking out the view.
That section with the flashlight duct taped to the shotgun in the woods with all of the zombies was the absolute closest human beings have successfully emulated the sensation of lobotomy without actually having surgery. The game's fetish for putting you into maps with large areas to traverse with very little to do besides waste ammo on enemies that constantly respawn with very little direction on where to go is about as much fun as dishwashing, doing laundry or reading the yellow pages. I could use other colourful imagery to portray the time i've had with this game but i'm good.
This game isn't honestly worth anyone's time and i feel very very sorry for anyone who has helped develop this game tbh.
