Steam has hit a new low.
It absolutely doesn't matter than they painted it themselves or not. You are responsible for what you put in your game and make people download on their computers. Wether or not you're lazy enough not to cheak what's in the image files you are including in the product you're fucking selling is completely irrelevant and makes it even worst in my opinion.

And one of the people who was on the team informed us they bought the model from TurboSquid.
So not only is the model made with the FREE "MakeHuman", not only is it a child but it has privates in the texture, but they purchased the model, and didn't look into it before they used it.

I'm very bad at predictions but I knew as soon as I saw the trailer and read about the "stolen" assets I knew it'd be a flop. And here it is! Arguably the worst source engine game on steam, and at $25 too.
I would have told Berkan to fuck off until he came back with something of better quality, one of the maps outright crashes the game from what I've heard. In a stream, a guy encountered 17 crashes in his playthrough. Missing textures and models, etc.
Anyway... I'm currently in the process of sending the textures to the FBI and CIA.

Yes they're not directly responsible of this, but honestly if they had a culture of curating a minimum the games on their platform like idk any other platform like the Switch is doing right now, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.
In a normal market, studios are pressured into caring about PR and production standards.
If they can just do anything to make any profit with the least efforts, no standards and no repercutions for being absolutely awful at their job, a ton of people who don't give a shit will do this kind of stuff.
If steam pressured devs more and had actual standards, people who don't know how or don't care enough to check what's in the texture file they're putting in their game wouldn't be allowed to sell child nudity on a gaming platform.
The only reason they don't change that system is that it makes them more money. Not because it's better or fairer for small devs. So they are responsible to a degree for what they profit from selling on their platform, because they created this culture.

i haven't seen the textures but are they really taken from a real child? i don't think they'd really do anything significant otherwise.

Remember the shitstorm when someone found out an ubisoft dev fully modeled and textured an npc's vagina in Watch Dogs 2? You weren't supposed to see that part of the model, it was "only in the game files", but unusual cloth clipping let some players see it. And that was an adult model, not child nudity.

From the discord. Texture is from makehuman, model is from turbosquid.
I would also like to point out, odds are, those Battlefield 3 models (and possibly other models) were also taken from TurboSquid.
I used to browse TurboSquid back in the day (I don't remember why) and I would always find stolen game assets on it. Usually they were free, but I think there has been a few cases of the models uploaded on there were for sale. I commonly saw Battlefield models, so odds are the team saw them and didn't really realize that they were Battlefield assets and used them in-game.
I guess you pay the price for not really doing any research on the assets you have purchased. Whatever or not it's worthy or not.
