Yeah, I was amused when my own S. Backburner reached Face-Melting status, though I didn't quite get the full effect until I saw that one.

I got my friends to play tf2 recently, and one of them decided to be a Medic. I tried telling him how the class works, but he was already out on the battlefield, busy trying not to die (and whining how Syringe Gun sucks) so he didn't pay much attention. Later, a burning Demoman ran at him screaming for heals so the poor fool tried to help, but he quickly reported that the (now very angry) Demoman couldn't be saved. Turns out that for the last 30 minutes he was "healing" people with Syringe Gun.
If I didn't know that silly bastard irl, I'd say it was cute.

I think I have heard this story before,maybe he would like the Crusader's Crossbow.
He has a Crusader's Crossbow, but he doesn't like it. He knows how to heal now, anyways. It was also pretty funny when he found out you can move buildings, he was like "...you can do that?!"

The training mode was made explicitly for people like your friend. He just gotta humble up and admit he is not even an intermediate yet and at least learn the basics.

Oh, I told him to do the tutorial multiple times. His ego prevents him from it so he'll have to learn the hard way. It's too bad that he is kinda discouraged now, cause we ran across god damn pubstompers and he got dominated by like, everybody. You really have to be a douchebag to bring your petty little clan to a Valve server.
I also think that the whole domination thing is really unnecessary, it's only there to cause conflicts and discourage new players by the looks of it.
