I don't have any actual fresh meat with me here, but I just recalled my first day playing TF2.
Before TF2, I was pretty into Gang Garrison 2, you know, the "demake" of TF2 (hi Psychopath). And I was decent at it, I guess. There are some major differences to TF2 in GG2, besides it being 2D, such as no weapon slot system - for example, the Overweight (Heavy's GG2 counterpart) can shoot his minigun with M1 and eat a sandwich with M2, but there is no primary/secondary/melee thing to scroll through - most classes only have one weapon to use, or their mechanics work differently.
But anyway, back to TF2. I had joined some random server, and I can't remember which map it was, but it might have been Gorge. I think it's important to say that it was a few days after the Engineer update was released, so of course I was definitely all about playing Engineer to get dose new weps. The first thing I wanted to do was plop down a sentry, but I just... couldn't. I kept trying, and trying, and yet I couldn't even open up the build menu. So I spent at least five minutes wondering what the hell was going wrong, until I realized what was up.
In GG2, the Constructor (the Engineer), like all other classes, has no weapon slots. M1 fires the shotgun, and M2 opens the build menu, wherein you can press 1 to construct a sentry or 2 to destroy it.
So in TF2 I was just fucking clicking my right mouse button to try to open the build menu. As I said, I figured out I could scroll through my weapons or press 4 to access the build menu, but that was still one of the stupidest things I've ever done. God.

As annoying as these are (mostly from when they're used), if they're used sparingly just for comedic effect, I do chuckle sometimes at "How to fly as demonstrations man" and "How to go shiny as dentist".

True Story: I still remember the exact moment on Gravelpit when I realized that the BackBurner crits people from behind and that the unlockable weapons are actually tooled to specific playstyles. I had just been equiping them because 'they were different', and had been playing like this for months.

Honestly a lot of people start TF2 with the mindeset from other games where new weapons are generally an upgrade to the starter weapons.

For some bizarre reason, when the L'Etranger was released, I thought it said '40 cloak duration' so I thought it meant you could add 40 stackable cloaks that could be used consecutively.

Even though those things were killed faster than the "arrow to the knee" meme, some of them still get me when they come out of nowhere. Demonstration man and "how to go seethrough as tuxedo terrorist" are my guilty pleasures whenever they appear.
