I never understood why someone would not use viewmodels. Like I know it helps you get a wider view of your surroundings, but I'd always like to know what weapon I'm using without having to look at the ammo numbers,especially when you have weapons that don't use an ammo prompt like the Wrangler and wrench or Sapper and Knife.

People usually deactivate them for specific weapons only. I barely see someone who deactivates the viewmodel for the sapper, knife, or melee weapons in general.
You don't look at the ammo numbers to know what weapon you're holding, you usually bind the slots combined with the viewmodel command to specific keys and that's it.
I like the feeling without a viewmodel because you're more focused on the crosshair which makes aiming a bit easier. I often found myself aiming with the weapon instead of the crosshair in close combat which wasn't good. When I deactivated it for the scattergun the first time it was like a revelation, it made the class a whole lot easier.
But in the end, it's all about personal preference so nobody is forced to do that.
