They're often just easy to play but not able to contribute much to your team. If you could choose between a demoknight and a demoman on your team, sure you'd choose the demoman (which is actually essential against experienced players). Other classes like Scout and Soldier are a lot better for picking and harassing. For pyro, flare gun and reserve shooter are really easy because of the airblast which makes your targets unable to move and easy to hit. I rather use the stock shotgun here because it's more handy, especially against enemy pyros. I also tried the stock flamethrower for a long time but the degreaser is just better since the flamethrower usually isn't your main damage output source and the weapon switch is just too handy (I still feel kinda cheap using the degreaser with the shotgun). Powerjack is great for mobility but I like to switch to the homewrecker to support engis in my team. [editline]27th November 2014[/editline] So yea I also refuse to use "popular" loadouts but not because they're cheap but rather because those often just aren't that useful.

It's not even good in Medieval Mode, the Backscratcher outdamages it and the Powerjack's mobility is incredibly useful. The only real use it has there is teaming up with a Sun on a Stick Scout or Axtinguisher Pyro, and even then it's pretty worthless after its nerf.

Maybe he doesn't want to play by what everyone else uses. I see this argument a lot of times in the competitive Pokemon scene, where people who use mons like Machamp or Sharpedo are decried for not using mons like Lucario and Gyrados, who are the top in their type. Maybe it's just their favorites. On the inverse, those who use the degreastinguisher or Lucario and Gyrados because it's their legitimate favorite and fun to use get a lot of shit for the implication that they just picked those to be good.
