I did this kind of stuff in the past more than I like to admit.

The reason public school is so terrible is because it doesn't have the funding to properly teach kids shit (no way to hold their attention and in many cases no way to demonstrate the subject once you DO have it). I did OK but I had a lot of outside help - most kids don't have that luxury. And on top of that, schools are told over and over they'll get less funding if they don't have a certain percentage of passing students, which means they give the kids who would normally fail even in a proper school setting a D, or an S if your district does those, just so they can keep what little money they have for next year. The combination results in a huge chunk of practically uneducated people being expected to be able to fend for themselves.
I'm not blaming public schools themselves for this, there's nothing they can do about it. My anger is directed at our government, and at the worthless fuckers who decided education was less important than lining their pockets or raiding random middle eastern countries.
