You're not "challenging" yourself. The objective of TF2 is to frag and win. By intentionally using underpowered strategies you're simply being a waste of space to your team.

To you maybe, being able to kill just as many people with weaker weaponry is much more exciting for me in any fps game.
And if you want your team mates to not play their own way and be coordinated in your image, go and play competitive if you feel so strongly about playing to win.
