Basically, the range changes on what angle you're facing. Skip to 2:43 for reflecting projectiles from behind you. Also, the airblast detection when airblasting players is apparently a cone just like you'd expect for projectiles, because reasons.

Second video is showing why projectiles sometimes fly seemingly randomly if you airblast when a teammate is in front of you - basically, airblasted projectiles redirect to the surface where your character is looking, and this includes player's hitboxes, also because reasons.
So yeah, pyro is a broken class.

Wait the Airblast detectionbox is literally one huge fucking cube? That's like just making a hurtbox for a fighting game character one big square.
Not just airblasts, your projectile hitbox is a non-rotating cube as well.

Apparently every character has the same cube, and it's based off of the heavy, which is why it looks so large there on the medic. While it doesn't matter [I]as[/I] much for things like rockets, as you can see in the video it still counts for projectiles like needles or huntsman arrows - go into a map like tr_walkway, make the bots still, look at one and use cl_ent_bbox, and you can test it yourself and cry at all those huntsman deaths you've had.
That also means your character can be completely hidden from view yet still hit by a projectile.
TF2 really needs a cleanin' update...
You know if they fixed all these issues with pyro, it would technically be a nerf.
And yet it would remove a huge amount of toxic gameplay elements that make it less fun both to play as and against Pyro.
Unreliable hit detection is frustrating for everyone. I'm happy to take any nerf that ultimately means the game is more fun overall.

Nothing like airblasting at a Medic who is running god knows where while on fire but it sure isn't anywhere useful, now he's dead, possibility shitty at you, and you're down about 100 points of ammo.
I hate that people say the Pyro has no purpose. Pyro is a roamer, a spychecker, can put out fires, and great at flanking. Pyro's basically a slower but sturdier Scout, which is very useful!

Sorry to burst your bubble but pretty much everything you said is wrong.
Pyro has no mobility tools, the entire point of a roamer is to get in and out fast. Soldier excels at this. Pyro does not.
Anyone can spy check, with the latest changes to cloak and spybuffs we got in Tough Break, I wouldn't even say pyro is even really better at it anymore.
Health packs and medic can put out afterburn. Its hardly a reason to go pyro
Pyro is terrible at flanking, again the entire lack of mobility tools kills the class, Valve seems to think Pyro is an ambush class, but Soldier also does this significantly better. Pyro doesnt have the tools to get behind anyone to flank them.
In the current game, Pyro's only point is denying uber pushes and babysitting sentry nests.
Denying ubers isn't even something thats really exclusive to him, you can do it with stickies/rockets.
Overall Pyro is pretty underwhelming. His broken mechanics and obsession with gimmicky unlocks doesn't help.
Scout has great mobility and can kill things a lot better than Pyro can, on top of having a much better and more reliable range. It be more accurate to say Pyro is a weaker, faster Heavy.

Was playing demo against 4 dead ringer spies earlier, and keeping track of which ones I'd killed, fake killed (and thus would be coming back at me soon (and are they likely to have dr ready again?)) and those that I hadn't seen recently was so tricky.

There is no medic melee that does more damage. You're getting hit by a lucky crit.

None of the medic weapons have any different damage stats. It's either crits killing you or you were already damaged. Otherwise, they all do 65 damage.

Damn, I swear that I die pretty much every time a medic hits me with melee. Weird :S
Worth noting that medic gets a a better chance at dealing crits the more damage your patients do in the last 20 seconds, up to a max of 800 for 60% crit rate on melee weapons, which is why it may seem the medic has a high melee damage output. It's only 12% chance for non-melee weapons, in case you were thinking 60% seemed high.

Was derping pretty hard with a sniper earlier as well. Getting 5 or 6 hits with the scatter but not killing and then pursuing into crowds or melee.
