After 8 years it has just occured to me that I should just have mained soldier since the start because you can get everything done with rocketjumps and you can solo anything anytime. Other than airshots it's impossible to miss with stock.
Soldier Demo and Scout are vastly superior to the other Classes. Medic Aside. I dont think this will ever change.
Ever since getting a new mouse I can't rocket jump to save my life. I feel like I'm going to have to run through jump maps to completely retrain myself.
late night TF2 is slowly making me despise the entire nation of Russia
autobalance systems that rip you alive from one team to the other with no warning
late night TF2 is slowly making me despise the entire nation of Russia
Don't let stupid kids on the internet color your opinion of an entire country. Just like anywhere, the loud obnoxious jerks aren't the majority, they're just the ones who stand out like a sore thumb.
So I had the displeasure of playing against the biggest pos 'hacker' in a game. I was messing around on 2fort and suddenly there's this guy that comes in and kills me and immediately starts calling me out in the chat for no reason. I never speak in pubs, I don't like getting attention from people but something was wrong. This guy would insult me at every single thing I do while taunting at the same time, like he really wanted to get me upset. The weird thing is that at first, he seemed like a typical soldier that plays alot but he seemed to know where I was all the time and would never miss a shotgun hit on me. Seemed to get way too many random crits from it too. So I go into spec to watch him, he switched to heavy and just seems to know where everyone is before they show up, including this one cloaked spy he had no way of knowing was around. He never called anyone else out except me, but he did taunt after every kill and eventually got a vaccinator medic to follow him everywhere. I'm surprised nobody bothered calling him out on it. It was pretty obvious when he killed this one spy with a single shotgun crit behind him, even though I watched that spy not even uncloak near him and was about to backstab him. I think I was the only one who killed him so maybe that's why he called me out, he only died 4 times according to the scoreboard and those were from me, but after I went into spec, nobody could kill him. I tried to see his profile and wouldn't you know, it's private. Here's some shots of the chat though, also before I forget, his weapons were all renamed to the lenny-face which just adds to the burn. [t]https://i.imgur.com/w6nydht.jpg[/t] I eventually just left without saying anything, but I absolutely loathe running into people that do this and think they're being funny when all I want to do is enjoy this godforsaken game. /hugeass rant
I must say, I wish the community was more interested in the actual gameplay rather than cosmetics (which I personally don't give a shit about as they don't affect the game). I think TF2 would be a lot bigger if it did. I mean, there isn't even a competitive thread on here is there? Though of course, people can do what they want.
/hugeass rant
This is why I stay away from anyone with "meme" in their name.
This is why I stay away from anyone with "meme" in their name.
this is applicable to those people with a string of words as a name aswell. 100% chance to be up to no good.

Just like anywhere, the loud obnoxious jerks aren't the majority, they're just the ones who stand out like a sore thumb.
I'll take "Hyperbole" for 200, Alex. But seriously, this one guy was like "You are bad at tf2, you are jealous of my unusual and you have so little items only 53 for 2k hrs, u r f2p i bet" I told him, hey, I really don't wanna drop more then like maybe 10 bucks on fake stuff for a video game. He then proceeded to insult america or something like it was somehow related. And then I dominated his entire team as heavy.
When the rest of my team tries to play KOTH like it's TDM, completely ignores healing me, and then has the audacity to say I suck when I'm the only one trying to cap the point rather than continually throwing myself at the Heavy/Pocket Medic camping our spawn. I'll have one amazing match in Comp for every 20 ordeals where I get matched with the most incompetent scrubs the world has ever seen.
Why do people waste description and name tags on lengthy nonsensical shit for their weapons? I keep seeing a bunch of Latin words or stuff like "Right arm of the Assassin" type shit for stranges, or some reference to their waifu/favorite character from a different game or movie. Maybe it's just because I don't rename or describe most of my items but the whole thing seems really out of place for the weaponry of TF2.
I die a little inside every time I see a name or description with a spelling or grammatical error. Whenever I name or describe an item I have a methodical process cross checking multiple sources, trying the name out beforehand on Word to make sure it doesn't have any grammar or spelling errors, then after copypasting the name, looking over all my sources to make sure nothings inconsistent, then finally after saying the tag out loud to make sure I didn't word anything poorly, I click the confirm button. It took me a full 2 minutes to name my whip Johnny Test. People should put at least a bit of care before burning a dollar tag.
"*player name's* own scattergun" Yes how original, you put your own name into the name of the weapon. Bonus points if hasn't actually reached Hale's Own yet. Or even worse, I once saw a guy trying to sell a Festive Grenade Launcher renamed "Strange Festive Grenade Launcher".

It's just a cosmetic difference.
The DR is all kinds of broken at the moment. Often when I stun a spy with the sandman, hit him with a crit/minicrit or if he disguises right before being hit, I can still see the particles for at least 5 seconds after he was cloaked. It's actually really easy to follow a spy that way, to the point where the spy would think you're using some kind of hack. And then, there's also this bug:
When done right, the name/description tag make the gun yours, it differentiates your scattergun from the millions of others out there. It gives the gun personality. That is, if it's not named "LOL REKT LENNY LOLOLOL" [editline]11th April 2016[/editline]
The DR is all kinds of broken at the moment. Pl_Borneo is terrible. Bonus annoyance: Soldier is disgustingly easy to be effective with.
Can someone explain to me why the last point on 5CP maps takes seemingly less than a second to capture? The best explanation someone offered my was "It's closest to spawn", but considering it takes longer to walk from spawn to the point than it does to actually capture it, it caries no weight in my eyes. Very, very rarely do i ever play defense of a last point that felt anywhere near winnable. At that point i essentially call it a given loss (or win if i'm in the attacking team)
Only badlands and a few other maps have truly lightning-fast final caps, where a single scout can cap in less than 1 second. You have to remember that 5cp has a natural tendency to stalemate—what is a push but your whole team overextending? To counteract this, the middle point has longest cap time, and cap times generally get way shorter towards the last point, all to encourage momentum and ending stalemates. Spawns are faster and more forward for the team owning more points (defenders gets slower spawn times often too) to discourage stalemates as well. Contrast with King of the Hill. Koth maps' timer is always ticking once the point has been capped, so it cannot stalemate. The team owning the point gets longer spawns than the team who lost it to encourage point turnover.
TBH the only things i see that are encouraged are backcaps, and the newbie engineer strategy of building their nest on last. If the defending team is already punished with half-minute spawn times, why do they need to be punished further with a control point they cannot reach in time, even if they're already near it? Unless a huge portion of the team is sitting, guarding last (in which case, what were you doing while your forward was capped?), or the enemy is doing something stupid, i don't see how it's at all feasible to defend last point. You might as well remove last, and end the game at the forward cap for all the gameplay experience it gives.

I'm so damn tired of my game crashing and telling me that my engine is out of memory when I know for a fact that it's not. Surely I'm not the only person this is happening to?
I had that exact same problem yesterday as well as a few weeks ago. I rebooted my mac and it seemed to fix it.
Rebooting doesn't make any difference for me. I have to work around it by loading up an offline Nucleus game before doing anything else (possibly just any KOTH map, I haven't tried anything else). Any other map crashes almost instantly. But after I've loaded Nucleus, every other map loads fine. It's also gotten to where it just likes to crash after I've been playing for awhile.

I looked around the web and couldn't find a single cure. One day it just stopped crashing as abrupt as it started, I don't know what I did, if I did anything at all. OT: connected to a Valve CTF server, doublecross, 4 people on the server. In THREE seconds I was kicked and banned for "no reason given". What in the hell possesses people to just unanimously kick a guy before he can blink?
It seems that my shitty sniping skill is enough to make one member of the opposing team to switch over and start a votekick on me. Naturally, it passed.

But if a Spy actually fights back and turns his DR on right in a moment that your hit causes him to "die", it's harder. Even more if he doesn't uncloak earlier. The problem is, people go with the lazy way. Heck, I mock these spies just by getting near em and not even shooting and they just keep running away looking at me and sometimes, not even know what's behind them. I've caused some Spies to fall to the pit that way.
I've noticed that the killsound/hitsound doesn't play for fake deaths (or just killsound if they aren't disguised), not sure if that's actually true or it's just me making up things.
