Why hate on the Ambassador? It's purpose was to give the spy the ability to kill from a safe distance, if people have mastered it to where it is basically the Revolver then fine. After all, the Amby requires precision aim to be effective.
Yeah and it ended up with people abusing the shit out of it, sniping people from distance where crushing majority of classes can't effectively fight them and to top it off, they tend to wear DR so if someone gets to them, they just relocate and rinse and repeat. It absolutely makes no sense for Spy to own a weapon which utilizes a mechanic which should be Sniper exclusive. It makes about as much sense as the old Jarate + Bushwacka combo; a combo which can annihilate 7 out of 9 classes with a single swing in CQC where Sniper SHOULD BE wiped floor with.
Just because it requires a skill to use doesn't make it balanced in the slightest.
"Muting takes 5 seconds."
And firing up Skype and calling someone takes 5 seconds. But apparently your five seconds are more valuable than the 5 seconds of dozens of other people? Spare me.
As someone who played TF2 in 2009 on a shitty toaster laptop; Skype/external programs eat a lot of processing power and ingame voice chat was a lot better on that pitiful machine.
On top of that; when friends and I would joke and chat on any given server people tended to join in as it tended to help "break the ice" so to speak.
Now with friends having moved on to other games I haven't used voice chat for close to 2 years because nobody on any given server seems to want to talk aside from the really angry types who can't help but be angry at any given thing.
EDIT:

I was always under the impression that the Ambassador was meant to help overcome the Razorback, as both were released simultaneously, but ended up being "useful" for more than it's intended design for people that can aim well on the fly or thought to find a good perch to pick at people.
It's almost like some people want to have casual convos to relieve stress from the day instead of going balls to the wall hardcore and only do callouts.
It's like a real life pub, everyone is there to drink and talk about sports, but you can still talk about other things.
And it's almost like no one is stopping you from having your casual conversation, because you can do it on private VOIP while also playing TF2.
And no, it's nothing like a real life pub, unless the pubs you go to involve people walking directly up to your table or booth and talking very loudly to their friend right into your ear while you're enjoying your drink, and you ask them to maybe go find their own table or booth and maybe not talk so loudly, and their response is "It'd take 5 seconds for you to get up and move, jerk!".
Which would be weird, because being obnoxious and intruding on the enjoyment of other people who were already there before you gets you thrown out of every pub I've ever been to.

Then you could use this newfangled invention called the "telephone", which allows you to speak with people across vast distances without taxing the resources of your computer.
On top of that; when friends and I would joke and chat on any given server people tended to join in as it tended to help "break the ice" so to speak.
Hey, if you join a server and the specific people there are okay with you essentially barging into their gameplay to talk loudly into their ears, then that's their choice. But when other people ask you to kindly stop, then your response shouldn't be a huffy, petulant, self-entitled "You can just mute me, jerk!"
Am I misunderstanding something or do you want me to ask my Steam friends for their phone numbers and talk to them with my cell so I won't disrupt your pubbing experience?
90% of people don't talk in pubs anyways and just as many don't listen to callouts so it's not like they're disrupting anything. It's one thing if they're being obnoxious or rude, just chatting is another. Most casual conversations I see in pub servers are just complete strangers having fun together and chatting it up.

And with precision, it is flat out better than the revolver.
Even without stellar aim, the mere chance of a lucky headshot (which isn't that hard to achieve tbh) makes it better as well.
You have people playing as a slightly weaker no-scoping sniper with the ability to Cloak, Backstab, and Negate Damage via the DR. It is by no means a balanced weapon for Spy, nor is it in any way fun to fight against.
Man, fuck Pyro's arsenal.
Either it is gimmicky weapons or fair and fun weapons that sadly get boring after 5 rounds at most for me at least.
When you just look at Pyro's weapons for a quick minute each, you realize that most of them gives you crits for the sake of it.
Flare Gun gives you crits on burning players (Which they will obviously be if your fighting them as a Pyro.)
Reserve Shooter gives you mini-crits for airblasting people, as if that's hard to do.
Axtinguisher gives you crits on burning players.
Neon Annihiliator punishes people for playing in maps that has a lot of water, cause just a step in the water and you get smacked by a crit.
Phlog gives you crits for DEALING DAMAGE, which you can gain with no problems by bombarding an unaware player or two with the Scorch Shot.
Degreaser does not give you crits, but allows these weapons to be pulled out faster.
And other weapons are either decent or hardly used outside of pubs where 22 out of a 24 man server probably does not know what they are doing.
I know I missed out on the detonator and how it deals mini-crits on burning players yada yada, but a mini crit flare does not do much anyway so I am fine with it. No one uses it for mini-crits as far as I know after all.
Urgh, I just hate Pyro's arsenal. Is it obvious?

Sniper called, he wants his job back.
Am I misunderstanding something or do you want me to ask my Steam friends for their phone numbers and talk to them with my cell so I won't disrupt your pubbing experience?
No, you want that, since you're the one who so desperately needs to talk to random acquiantances on Steam while playing TF2 that you're willing to inconvenience dozens of other people, because your computer is apparently somehow too underpowered to run a simple VOIP program. Me? I'm just the one trying to come up with useful workarounds for you, since you're either too lazy to do it yourself or you just don't give a shit about making yourself a nuisance for other people.
But hey, let's assume you run TF2 on a toaster that somehow can't handle Skype, although it somehow can handle TF2? Whatever, let's assume that's somehow possible. Why not just run a VOIP program... on your phone? Offload the resource strain onto a second device, like a smartphone or tablet. Voilà, problem solved.
Or maybe you don't have a smartphone or tablet? Well then, why not just have your Steam friends use Skype... to call your phone? Yes, that's right! You don't need to have their phone numbers, you just need to give them yours, because they can use a VOIP program to call a normal phone!
Basically there's no excuse for your being obnoxious and making yourself a nuisance for dozens of other people at a time. And even if there were, acting like an entitled prick about it instead of apologizing to people for inconveniencing them so selfishly is the height of assholery.
Spy+Amby+DR is the only class that can stand still and aim without punishment, deal ridiculous damage, and prevent dodging due to the stupid amount of knockback from the amby on mid-air opponents.

Dude, stop.
Then you could use this newfangled invention called the "telephone", which allows you to speak with people across vast distances without taxing the resources of your computer.
Cute.
The point I'm making is that some people don't have the performance capability of running another program alongside a game like TF2.
Side note: in 2009; I was living on an incredibly limited income and had a grand total of 80 minutes of call time on my cell plan per month which I saved for emergencies.

You're really the only one being obnoxious here by getting so upset over people just talking in game and in no way inconveniencing you.
I wouldn't go to the extreme length of going "Hey steam stranger, gimmie your phone number", but surely you could call them with the steam phone or whatever it's called, I only used it once long ago. That supports groups of people, doesn't it?
You're really the only one being obnoxious here by getting so upset over people just talking in game and in no way inconveniencing you.
Wouldn't you rather hear people talk about actual stuff related to the game like where to move up, what to do, etc. or instead hear a long conversation about what they're eating for dinner? It's like that analogy Verloren came up with, "You're like the assholes who stand in the middle of grocery store aisles taking up the entire walkway talking, and when people ask them to move, they get offended and are like "You can go around!""

Holy shit lol

What happened that made you guys suddenly realize that the ambassador is insanely good for its pitiful downsides. The last time I mentioned that it offered an insane upside for useless tradeoffs the general reaction was since it took "skill" it doesnt matter how trivial its downsides were. Has there been an upward trend of more people playing spyper in pubs or something?

If you cant run something like mumble I have no idea how you run tf2 well at all.

By having TF2 take up all the system resources.
I have a friend who start to have some serious frame drops when discord / skype is open when they play TF2.

Because it's so less self entitled to think you shouldn't have to use a part of the game for its function right.
You aren't allowed to make friends in TF2.

most people judge a gun based on their own ability with it.
The ambassador is also probably one of the hardest weapons to consistently aim with.
Especially if you're trying to snipe with it.
Because I guess talking casually and also doing callouts intermittently is impossible for mortal men.
I swear there are a heckuva lot of people playing a multiplayer video who hate people acting like people.
If you want pure playing uninhibited by filthy humans and their "lives" then you should play with bots, but I enjoy people and the funny and perhaps non-TF2 related things they have to say.
Hell, if it were up to you guys you'd remove any voice command that wasn't "Help" "Medic" or "Move Up" because going by your own logic there's no reason for Heavy to tell you he's a fairy princess, or for scout to laugh as he kills people with his bat.
Human interaction and personalities is what makes multiplayer games fun, you get a bit of life and humor from people you'd normally never meet.
But I guess fun is off limits in the super serious hardcore pubs you guys play in at 110% effort no exceptions.
The ambassador is also probably one of the hardest weapons to consistently aim with.

true.
But for some gifted players that goes straight out of the window and the downsides aren't there. At least sniper doesn't have invis shields to get away safely.
Officially decided that spawn camping is one of the things that bugs me the absolute most. Especially when it's on a damn Sniper training server.
My team is being completely wrecked by one guy on the other team, and so he and another Sniper get it in their heads to move from their side of the map onto ours and try to spawn camp us instead of giving us any sort sort of semblance of a fair fight. The other one's even going around trying to Jarate-and-Kukri people. So I get out my SMG to deal with the Kukri Sniper chasing me around after he's Jarate'd me, and I manage to kill him.
Team Wrecker: "Can't you at least try to headshot instead of whipping out your SMG?"
Well I don't know, can you guys try to stay on your own side of the damn map instead of spawn camping us? And if you insist on spawn camping, how about you stop with the Jarate and Kukris for yourself?
I mean… I get that spawn camping and CQC are inevitable, and I should be prepared for them. But fucking hell, that pissed me off so much. I came to the server to learn how to counter snipe, not desperately try to escape being killed as soon as I spawn in.
[sp]But at least I got the small satisfaction of headshotting him twice in a row before I had to leave.[/sp]
Because it's so less self entitled to think you shouldn't have to use a part of the game for its function right.
the purpose of tf2s voice chat is to communicate with your team, like saying sniper is there, or I have uber.
Its not your personal skype channel where you expect the 20 other people in the server to go out of there way to ignore you, if something happens in game you want to talk about a little bit sure, but nobody else wants to hear you talk to your friend about what you had for breakfest yesterday. If you cant afford a decent computer thats your problem, dont make it the problem of 20 other people in the server. If youre playing in one of those 32 player all take friendly servers by all means go ahead, but I dont want to join a normal pub and immediately have to mute someone because he feels his conversation is more important than the actual game.
Wouldn't you rather hear people talk about actual stuff related to the game like where to move up, what to do, etc. or instead hear a long conversation about what they're eating for dinner? Are we both playing the same TF2? It's a rare occurrence that anyone even talks in TF2, much less randomly goes off on a random stint about the beef stew they are eating. I even explicitly said "It's one thing if they're being obnoxious or rude, just chatting is another." Is some guy loudly belching and screaming into his mic? Sure, go a head and kick him, are two or three people joking about something that happened last round? Oh dear god, community, social interaction, fun. Obviously none of these belong in MY TF2, better kick them for using the voice chat for anything other than calling out spies.

20 people can't hear you anyways unless it's an all talk server so stop like it's impacting literally everyone on the server, unless they're doing it in text chat but honestly that's even easier to ignore. If it is an all talk server... well having random conversations sorta is the point.
If it's a normal pub the 11 other people on your team never seam to have any issue ignoring 90% of call outs anyways unless you get lucky and have a team full of reasonably competent people.
Like, where are you people finding these super serious pubs with everyone making callouts over mic that are suddenly invaded by people randomly talking about stupid shit.
true.

Who would have guessed that players who are more skilled than you will kill you.
People who complain about others casually talking in voice chat and go into some really idiotic lengths like yelling. The mute option exists for a reason, you know, stop acting like a Grumpy McMad.
I don't have any problem with people talking over mic but this is an absurd thing to say. You're annoyed by people complaining on the microphone? Why don't you mute them? To say that somehow the thing that you're doing which is annoying somebody else over mic is okay because they can mute you, and in the next breath saying it's not okay for other people to annoy you over microphone even though you can mute them too makes no sense.
Who would have guessed that players who are more skilled than you will kill you.
Does that somehow make the Ambassador okay? The problem isn't just how powerful the Ambassador is, its also how unnecessary the thing is. Spy doesn't need a headshot cannon, he gets kills from backstabs. The point of Spy is that he is weak in close range. The Ambassador allows you to circumvent that. The Spy's revolver should be a defensive weapon, not an offensive one.
Who would have guessed that players who are more skilled than you will kill you.
that's not very relevant.
we can just add the instagib from UT because only a handful of players can use it to its fullest extent so it's fair?
