Darwin's Danger Shield. Mind, it's super easy to counter once you know if someone has it, but if you're against an equally skilled sniper that has it, it pretty much forces you to use it.
Can we just talk about how annoying it is when the gibus soldier crits you in the face with his shovel like it's the eyelander when playing scout?
Can we just talk about how annoying it is when the gibus soldier crits you in the face with his shovel like it's the eyelander when playing scout?
Wait, people use the shovel?
Wait, people use the shovel?
If you classify Gibus players as people, then yes.
Stay mad scout

Sorry, stay mad.

Stay mad.
Man I remember middle school...
Man, it's so much joy to see a guy defending THE RESERVE SHOOTER ON PYRO and calling out others for being "mad" about gettng stunlocked in the air. It does not matter how the player acts, using THAT combo imadeatly makes you an asshole who cannot play proper Pyro cause "ou no it w+m1".
Can we just talk about how annoying it is when the gibus soldier crits you in the face with his shovel like it's the eyelander when playing scout?
Usually happens to me from snipers. Go in for a meatshot, accept taking a hit before you get another meatshot and then get critted and die. Every time. I really should learn.
I bet if sniper had a "Kick Children in the Face ability" you'd use that too.
One sec. I gotta get an email ready.
Wait, people use the shovel?
I personally don't care for any of the Soldier's other melee weapons so I stick to the shovel.
Soldier doesn't actually have that many melee weapons when you think about it. If you like having consistent behavior on your items , then the 2 pickaxes aren't interesting at all to use. The market is terribly situational and pretty much garbage if you value your life and don't want to force yourself into dangerous positions. The katana is still really bad because of the slow switch time. It's clunky and not really an attractive option. Plus the departure of random crits is a turn off to most players. Paintrain? Boooooring. So that leaves the generic whip that everyone knows and uses. Everyone is either whip or escape plan. Boring. I guess that's the price for having so many primaries.

I always think there are secret thing about some weapon for example, why the whip is deadlier than the shovel when it has no damage bonus? why the ubersaw is deadlier than the basic saw when it has no damage bonus? Medic with the basic saw never kill me but when it's the ubersaw oh well they successfully kill me. I don't get it.
tell that to my pro killstreak equalizer and it's wonderful ability to random crit for over 300 damage
why the whip is deadlier than the shovel when it has no damage bonus?
whip has eyelander range and random crits. That's why it's one of soldier's most used melee weapons.
Longer range than swords, in fact. With crits. And the ability to whip heavies to mid, and for the true min/max fetishists out there - stuff like whipping engies while defending on a/d or payload to let them start building faster. Might be a fault in my rocket jumping ability, but it sure feels like it boosts rocket jumps as well to be under the whip speed boost effect :v:
Whip is arguably the best one, at least for me. Better range, random crits, boost yourself an allies to the front line without needing to take damage before hand or take extra damage with it out. The lowered damage doesn't really matter that much when I can just magically pull out a 146 because the rocket launcher and shotgun both have high damage.
Might be a fault in my rocket jumping ability, but it sure feels like it boosts rocket jumps as well to be under the whip speed boost effect :v:
Believe that's because your movement speed is identical to your air speed.
Speaking of range on the whip, you can actually hit people behind you if they're hugging up against your back, even if you're staring either up or forward. I like using the whip too, being able to give allies a speed boost is extremely helpful, especially when a heavy appreciates it.
But the shovel looks cool
But the shovel looks cool
... It's a shovel.
... It's a shovel.
And it's a damn good shovel. It barely digs holes, and there are better weapons out there, but it's part of a Soldier's kit. Basic essentials on the battlefield. Seriously, though, most of the default melee weapons do seem like they could use some buffs in this newfangled world of whips that kill people behind you and people from my experience seem to mostly just use melee weapons for mobility, other than Demoknighting.

you don't buff the starting equipment. you tweak the options. otherwise you effectively buff the class itself for no reason other than "the whip exists". that also means if the item server goes down / server loses connection, all soldiers magically get a passive bonus at no cost. now poptarts can finally come back to tell me that nerfing unlocks hurts the game and is boring :v:
you don't buff the starting equipment. you tweak the options.
I agree, I feel like most/all alternate melee weapons with utility functions (for classes that aren't Spy/Engineer, because they often revolve around their melee weapons) should have a passive downside.
now poptarts can finally come back to tell me that nerfing unlocks hurts the game and is boring :v:
you said it yourself, because its true its better to have a bunch of equally interesting, strategic, and worthwhile choices than have nothing but boring lame options since they all have to be equally bad.
and then you open up 9 more avenues to worry about, 9 more things to consistently keep in check with further additions, aswell as buffing generalists even further :goodjob:
You don't need to buff the default melee weapons. Heavy, Pyro and Medic players never use their default melee weapon because there are alternative that are too good not to use (GRU, Powerjack, Ubersaw), you just need to nerf these.
Heavy at least gets a tauntkill from it, something that really should've been on the Bonesaw too, rather than the Ubersaw.
Guys no wait I'm not idle stop! *gets kicked anyway*
People who post a item on backpack.tf and then says its cost more and delete the post, and say he never posted that
Getting one-shotted by the battleaxe as most classes. From any range seemingly.
Holy fuck the Scorch Shot is annoying.
