Stuff that Annoys you in TF2: MS Paint Crocket Edition
Oh, cool! The invasion crates are finally down to a more-or-less reasonable price! Let's see what I get from two of them!

Fucking hell.
I've realized how the great majority of people who actually unbox these cases (i.e., heavy-spenders that are the main source of TF2's income) are even worse off than when they were when unboxing the old cosmetic crates from the past.
The low chances for higher-than-Mercenary-grade items (what was it, only 20% chance to be higher then Mercenary?) and the low number of different possible Mercenary-grade items in each case essentially means they're getting the same 3 or 4 Mercenary items over and over and over again.
Unlike other cosmetic crates like the RoboCrates, Fall Crates, Summer Coolers, End of the Line crates etc., which had a much higher selection of items in them with the same unbox chances, so even if you were unboxing with the hopes of getting an unusual or strange version, you still at least got many actually different items as a consolation prize.
In Invasion's case, it's probably better to just be a speculator/patient guy that sells their initial case drops for good money, holds on to their Steam funds, and waits a few weeks for prices of Invasion cosmetics/reskins on the Market to fall to a level where buying the exact ones you want off the Market is a much better option.
It really is a system that screws over the heavy-spending guy that's bought 5+ keys in advance, actually opens all of their case drops and is even forced to buy cases off the Market for a Key's worth in the initial weeks...

It really is stupid how the different grades have different rarities when according to the wiki, the two Gun Mettle skin cases have equal unbox rates for every skin
Of course it could be wrong, though

The new system is bullshit is what it is. It's forced, artificial rarity on top of the already shitty crate rarity plus the price of a key per open and the cost of the pass that you need just to get the crates.
Bull. Shit. Every last fucking pixel of it. And whichever numbskull shit-for-brains dimwit had the bright idea of enforcing it ought to be fired.
Out of a fucking cannon.
It screws over the creators of the items, who don't get to see a single cent of the absurd market prices. It screws over regular players, whose chances of getting an item they want is somewhere around the chance of winning the lottery. And it screws over people willing to spend a bit of cash, because unless you drop 70+ dollars on the marketplace for some stupidly overpriced item, then you're most likely shit-out-of-luck.
I'm happy to spend $20 to buy some crate keys and unbox some stuff, then trade it for what I actually want. But this tiers system is taking an already annoying crate system and somehow making it shittier.
To be fair, the tier system always was there, just not labelled as such. Hell, unusual items are pretty much exactly that - and it's not like the creators of the unusual effect or the hat underneath ever got a share of THAT money, either. They got the money from the initial sell + the shop sales, and now in the Invasion update from the ticket a lot of people bought.
It's a pretty awkward system, but it was really introduced with the Market.
It really, really sucks that you can't just buy the stuff from the shop, though.

The majority of crates prior to Gun Mettle had items that were spread out across an equal rarity, occasionally with one or two "rare" items and, of course the eponymous unusual items.
F'rinstance, here's crate #90 from earlier this year:

Everything is the same rarity except for the two strange weapons and the unusuals. But beyond that? everything is fairly even-spread.
Compare with the Quarantined crate:

There are 11 possible items you can get from that crate. But out of those 11, you are far, far more likely to get one of the first four than you are to get any of the others. So now the market is absolutely flooded with Mercenary grade crap that nobody wants but everybody has, while things like the Corona Australis and the Bat Sabre - items which look great, but should really be on the same level rarity wise as all the other invasion stuff - are going for upwards of $70 a pop for standard versions.
It's ridiculous and stupid and I don't see the point in it beyond denying people what they're actively paying to try and get, while flooding the market with the same 8 items over and over and over again. Case in point: I've opened about 9 of the Quarantined crates so far in an attempt to get a Starduster or Corona Australis - the only two items I really want from this update - Out of those items, I have gotten a single Commando grade rocket Operator, three Final Frontiersmen, three Universal Translators and two Life Support Systems. All Mercenary grade. Now, don't get me wrong. These are fine items appearance wise. Heck, I even wanted the Final Frontiersman for the Galactic Headhunter set. I wanted one of them.
Not three.
One universal translator? Sure, why not, a nice subtle demoman helmet, I could see a use for it. Three? Though? Two literally right after one another? What possible use to I have for that? Even if it was an item I was actively trying to get: I do not need 3 of the fucking things! I certainly don't need two Life Support Systems, either.
Now, normally, if I had two of the same item, I could trade or sell them to get something I wanted. Right? Well, not in this event, because now everybody has those eight items. You know what people don't have? The only two fucking items I actually want out of this update. I don't understand Valve's reasoning for this. It's an awful system, especially with all the crap we're already enduring when it comes to drops and crates. They somehow managed to take a bad thing and make it significantly worse. Making us pay for the "privilege" of getting to suffer through this bullshit is the infected pus icing on the rancid vomit cake.
Invasion could have been so good! The maps are all cool, the gamemode is fun, the items look great. But Valve saw all that potential and apparently said to themselves "Okay, now, we need to somehow balance out all this cool stuff with a heaping load of fucking shite that nobody wants." I'm looking forward to see how they fuck up Halloween and Christmas this year, if this is the attitude their going forward with. Ugh.
And yes, I am mad about it. I've spent around $30 on this fucking update and I'm not even close to getting the content I actually want! Never before has there been an update where I cannot get exactly what I want for that price, plus a little extra. But this time? Oh, no, we have to endure this bullshit teir system.
I fucking hate it I want it to go away I hate it hate it hate it HATE IT
-video-
It's this, only worse, because now it's a mechanic instead of an unfortunate coincidence.
Speaking of Mann Co. Painting set, I really dislike how you can't get black paint from them despite there being black paint on the bucket's icon.

I wrote earlier that I'd played against a hacker like this who thought he was getting away with it. He did exactly this kind of shit to make himself seem legit.
This is 10 times more infuriating than regular obvious hackers. It's like an insult, like he thinks you're an idiot.
You know, I'm glad that a lot of players aren't as quick as it seems like they used to be to call cheats, but it is pretty annoying that a player that spends more than 10 seconds setting up a "stealthy" config for their triggerbot/esp combo and leaves the aimbot off will basically never get kicked/banned.
I mean, a well-configured triggerbot can look really convincing, but when they can't even resist killing cloaked spies and then shrug it off as "LOL accidental spy kill xD" for the 5th time in 5 minutes it turns into some sort of twisted comedy when people defend them without hesitation. Sometimes it hurts to be aware that there are other ways of cheating than spinning aimbotters, as to a lot of people it seems like that is the only cheat that exists.
[editline]also[/editline]
I wasn't even aware of some the things that exist until recently. Airblast cheats, projectile aimbots.. Like, cheats are destructive and unfun, but I have to say that the people who make/update the things know what they are doing. I guess it's like actual white vs grey vs black hat hackers, they all know what they are doing but they are differently aligned :v:
~Super long rant~
The Gun mettle crates are decent when it comes to the rank systems
But now they have ruined a community made update that took 2 years to make
£100 for a bat reskin?
£23.38 for a normal taunt?
Who in their right mind would spend so much on a reskin?
You might as well buy a fucking unusual
They better not ruin Halloween using this shitty system
A thing that make my blood to boil is that all the solders and demoman i encounter, whenever i approach them with melee weapons, they just stick to their primary, and shoot me in realy close range killing themself in the process.
You have a Melee and (maybe) a secondary, use it goddamit.

I'm kind of late here, but I'm a million percent sure that the wiki percentages for tiered crates are wrong. Someone added up the results of a bunch of Gun Mettle crates, and it seems like it works by giving you a 20% chance to move up to the next tier, and then if you pass that, giving you another 20% chance to move up to the next one, and so on until you fail or get to the highest tier.
That means the tier chances should look like this:
80% of items will be Mercenary grade (blue, lowest tier)
16% of items will be Commando grade (purple)
3.2% of items will be Assassin grade (pink)
0.8% of items will be Elite grade (red, highest tier)
Which means the Quarantined crate probably looks more like this:
20% Universal Translator
20% Phobos Filter
20% Final Frontiersman
20% Life Support System
5.33% Rocket Operator
5.33% Captain Space Mann
5.33% The Shooting Star
1.6% The Giger Counter
1.6% Starduster
0.4% Corona Australis
0.4% Sucker Slug
And the Confidential crate (the rare one that's still worth twice as much on the market) looks like this:
20% The Graylien
20% Cadet Visor
20% The Space Diver
20% A Head Full of Hot Air
5.33% The C.A.P.P.E.R
5.33% Phononaut
5.33% Jupiter Jetpack
1.6% Space Hamster Hammy
1.6% Taunt: Burstchester
0.8% Batsaber

The airblast hack is disgusting. Dude reflected two of my rockets that I bombed him with. They were close together due to doppler effect just so he couldn't have reflected both with a single airblast nor two separate.
I developed that strategy to kill actual good airblasting pyros. Even if they manage to kill you, you are guaranteed to have one rocket connect. It's not possible to counter, unless you have something that overrides airblast timing.
Then dude played demoman and switched to his pipes much faster than possible one time, screwing me over as I thought I had successfully backed out of the engagement in my position and banking on him not being able to switch fast enough to get me. If I had no grasp of the game's mechanics I'd have thought he outplayed me, but no, that was him bending the rules in his favor, simple as.
Killing them isn't even satisfying as it's always like killing a a gibus noob. They just turn their shit off and let you kill them thinking it makes them seem legit. It's like a fucking WWE match orchestrated by them.

Speaking of unbox rarities, what's the sub rarity for getting a strange version of the new weapons?
I'm kind of late here, but I'm a million percent sure that the wiki percentages for tiered crates are wrong.
Honestly, the percentages for most, if not all of the crates are wrong. There's not really any access to the percentages, so everything is an even split, an assumption or a rough calculation based on Stats.tf or something similar (with the first way more likely than the others). I mean, when I used to edit the wiki, we all just put the percentages as the result of 99 divided by the number of items, with 1% left for unusuals. It's not really something you should rely on for an argument.
rant
I honestly don't know why Valve didn't put the items (or at least cosmetics) on the store.
I'd gladly pay $7.49 or so for a Corona Australis before I pay the ridiculous +$60 dollars people are asking for on the market, and at least that would give the creator support.

Gibus pyro chasing an apparitions aspect pyro with a backburner. The apparitions aspect pyro has another hat you can probably guess and has a botkiller and a spec ks shotgun.
Degreaser + Reserve Shooter = EZ "pro" Pyro loadout.
I recently tried doing Zatoichi-turner-booties which was something I actually never tired before. After a few dominations and MVPs I realized I wasn't even fucking trying. I felt dirty.
I have my limits on how much skill I should be using, that's why I never use.
- Black Box + Conch
- Degreaser + RS
- Tuner + Zatoichi
- FJ + Gunslinger
- Spycicle + DR
I have to make at least a bit of effort in my performance.
(Yes I've been lurking for a year plsnokill)
What really irks me is weapon models and weapon names not alluding to what the weapon actually does. For example: The Backburner. The name fits, yes. It burns backs. But why is it literally stock with a dragon face painted on a piece of steel and welded to the front of the gun? Does the face like to chew the booty? I don't know. Nor does the weapon indicate that it has a higher airblast cost.
Like, I understand the model is over 6 years old, but a good half of the weapons in the game have some form of indicator on the model or in the name as to what it does. The Hitman's Heatmaker has a silencer. The Flying Guillotine is a cleaver. The Ambassador has a reinforced barrel for steadier shots. Wat do.
Also, Valve's great idea of restricting the Invasion unusual effects to the hats in the crate. I love the effects, and I like the majority of the hats in the crate, but I don't want to be restricted to a swimming cap with blutooth and gigantic test-tubes to wear one of the effects. :I

Actually, Heatmaker is so stealthy it spams tracers and cuts people's heads off all over in glorious fountains of blood, Flying Guillotine doesn't actually decapitate people but rather kind of knocks them around in a funny way, and Ambassador is a handcannon with a booming firing sound and -15% damage penalty.
TF2 weapons have generally never been self-descriptive from their models/names at all

There's dozens of stuff like this.
A dart gun that doesn't fire darts. Revolvers that don't reload. Weapons that never reload bullets but instead just keep ejecting shells, ect.
i dont even mind random crits that much
what I do mind
