Except soldier isn't just a little good at everything, he's a lot good at everything.
No reason to pick a specialist when the "generalist" can do the same or sometimes even better.
Soldier is just the best class in the game that can handle literally every situation
Lone guy? boom he's dead
Big group? boom they're dead
Sentry in a corner? boom it's gone
He's got a good health pool, decent movement speed compared to the heavy, great mobility once you get used to rocket jumping, which is far from the hardest thing to do in the game, all with easily the lowest skill ceiling in the game
Even if, IF you somehow are still shit with him, say no more fam because the Soldier's got a shit-ton of crutches that can make a shit player better, ala black box, beggar's bazooka, etc.
tl;dr soldier idiotproof

And yet it's heavy that gets the cascade of unnecessary nerfs.
Anything that makes him even remotely on par with soldier, it gets taken away or nerfed to hell.
Remember when heavy could get 50% health from their own dropped sandvich?
Remember when the minigun didn't have a damage/accuracy penalty?
Remember when the GRU didn't mark you for death?
All these things gave heavy a little semblance of better mobility, damage output, and tankyness. They took em away but left soldier as is. Grade-A Valve-brand bullfrickenhorseshit

Im awful at soldier tho. :v:
I used to be, then I actually played him for a couple hours and got the feel of how long his rockets take to fly through the air and where to aim so they can't be dodged.
He does take practice, just not much to become competant. And then once you have that practice, you've got huge power from your splash damage. Compare to a class like sniper, where you need to be a much better shot but still sacrifice mobility/proximity, rate of fire, survivability, and multi-target damage capacity (barring rare Machina double snipes).

Self-sandviching was an unintentional byproduct of allowing the Heavy to share his sandvich. The sandvich was meant to be eaten, not thrown onto the ground so you could sit on it. The huge drop in heavies actually stopping to eat the sandvich should've been all so telling of how that wasn't deliberate. Being able to share a medkit with anyone you want is still a huge boon, especially for a class that operates much better with a medic nearby.
Similar to Ludmilla, the Sandvich created scenarios where Heavies were extremely tanky paired with a medic. A fully overhealed heavy with a sandvich on the ground nearby had an effective 600 health pool with 24 hp/sec as well. The intent of Ludmilla was to make Heavy medic independent, but in practice it made Heavy more annoying when he does have a medic without really changing how he functioned without said medic. Self-Sandviching was just as guilty of that effect.
GRU had similar issues, where the only downside it had (-6 dps to his 300hp pool) was completely laughed off by the mere existence of a medic, knowledge of health pack locations, or the sandvich that you could throw onto the ground.
The only things that I can agree with you are regarding the under-hood changes to the minigun's accuracy and damage ramping up with time.
Additionally, I was a little fond of the self-ticks from the GRU. It actually opened up some jumps that he could now make; although I'd much rather that be implemented in a deliberate manner instead of by accident. Imagine if the Eviction Notice were effectively Heavy's own Boston Basher. Something of that ilk could be appreciated.
I still just cannot rocket jump.
I mean, I can jump high ish and forward but i can't rocket jump at any pace or air strafe. I have to run the gunboats as well because I take too much damage otherwise.
Despite that being the case I'm still usually decent as soldier, which is probably more due to its strength as a class rather than my skill. Splash damage against scout is just insane.
Even after the nerf, I think heavy is easy as is. Easier than soldier anyways
Simpler, maybe - he's literally point and shoot. But easier? No way.
You have to be a much better judge of what sorts of engagements you can win/survive as a Heavy, and you need to be much more careful of when, where, and how you deploy. Soldiers have rapid burst damage, while Heavies require sustained fire and have pretty significant damage dropoff with range.
A Soldier can kill or severely wound you at any range in a very short period of time, then duck behind cover and reload. But Heavies have to sit there in the open and pump out lead, making themselves vulnerable. If you don't properly gauge how much damage you can deal at what distances how quickly, and use that to figure out when to disengage, you can very easily die as the focus of the battle shifts and people change targets before you can spin down and get to cover.

Jumping is honestly just something you have to practice. It can take dozens of hours to truly get it down. Sure it's not all that hard but the muscle memory takes time.

I think you're onto something great here. That would make the Eviction Notice have a proper role that isn't a watered-down GRU.
EDIT: And imagine the Uber building possibilities. It would be heaven for pocket Heavy players.

I'd rather have an entirely new weapon instead of scrapping the original EN stats.
Something like sort of boxing gloves (not like the red ones, maybe a different type, idk) covered in barbed wire and such.
-50% damage
+30% attack speed
On Hit: Bleed effect applied
On Miss: hit yourself. idiot.
sorry about bringing the weapon idea thread here, it was related to the topic

what's wrong with scrapping a weapon's original stats if the original stats were a bad idea and didn't add anything to the game at all?
leaving a bunch of useless items in the game just for the sake of not removing anything just makes it even more cluttered for absolutely no benefit
Then why do people always rage when Valve doesn't add new weapons when a new update rolls out?

To rub it in, the Concheror is probably the best backpack soldier has in the game.
So naturally valve buffed it even further in the tough break update.
But Soldier Scout and Demoman have always been significantly better than the other classes honestly.
Thats sorta why 6s exists.

I think one of the insults to injury was that the Cozy Camper, a weapon that at the time was in dire need of a buff, had 1/4th the healing power the Conch, a weapon that people didn't complain about in the first place.
Smissmas 2013 was nothing but tweaks that either broke the weapon or completely dodged what was wrong with the weapon. Still IMO the worst update TF2 ever got.

That's why the other team also has a soldier. He's as OP as you want until he meets an enemy soldier.
My problem with soldier is from what I can tell the only things you gotta learn are Air Shots and Rocket Jumps
Actually Scout can out fight soldier in a 1v1 area thats wide open.
Its just unfortunate most tf2 maps are very narrow and linear.
Something that really, really, sets me off in tf2 is when you go into a 5CP map, and an engineer or two or THREE all set up at the last point.
Then they just stay there all round until the other team inevitably starts slaughtering our team which was down 3 players compared to theirs.
Ugh, it just drives me mad. What's even worse is when they then say: "Well, they made it all the way to last; good thing we were here, huh?"
Setting up camp at last at the start of the round is like preparing to lose, and by preparing to lose, YOU CAUSED US TO LOSE.
What you should do is go Medic and just sit on the last point stating the same reasoning.
So I don't really trade much, but I wanted some new items so I sold some stuff to the TF2 warehouse to get some credits.
I don't own a smartphone of any kind and I can't find a desktop variant of the authenticator for OSX, so I'm stuck with as of now, a 48 hour escrow period.
Escrow is so much bullshit, who at valve thought this was a kosher idea? Do they think everyone owns a smartphone?
I just want to trade fake hats for different fake hats. This is asinine.
[sp] but really, what made valve go so batshit insane with all this security stuff anyway? [/sp]

The shitload of idiots getting their accounts phished.
The shitload of idiots getting their accounts phished.
Was it really though?
I have a sneaking suspicion that Valve did this to make buying things directly look more tantalizing.
They realized things like trading doesn't make any money for them.
Escrow made trading such a hassle, I have a hunch many people seeking instant gratification just went to go buy things with cash instead of waiting 7 days for authentication or 3 days escrow per trade.

Sure, that seems like a real swell press release and a noble cause to start such a security initiative.
But somehow when the company that came along with paid mods and is the one to take a cut of your market transaction comes up with something like this, I detect an ulterior motive.
But maybe that's just me being extremely annoyed and paranoid.
Though perhaps I'm more aggravated by the fact it has to be from a mobile device. I don't use this term very often, but I feel it's slightly exclusionary to folks without iOS or Android phones.

I'd be interested to see how much that number changes come June or May
And after all this discussion on how classes are OP, I'm just gonna quietly continue to main sniper.
When 80% of my team is mucking around being 'friendlies' and taunting with enemies, despite only 20% of the enemy team being friendlies, and the other 80% constantly rushing to cap the intel.
I was the only engineer on my team, and I had a nest in the intel because red kept trying to cap.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/k8WqzWX.png[/t]
yes, it might hurt the red guys trying to capture the intel, that's the exact reason it's there. how dumb do you have to be to think that the guy trying to destroy the lone engineer's nest, the one far away from blu's/red's dance party, is friendly and just wants to party in the intel instead?

Quick scoping is a broken mechanic.

Sniper has no skill ceiling.
Also his build up is broken and does not work well in game like tf2.
Someone really skilled would be godlike as sniper, his only counter is another god-like sniper.
Also hitreg since 2007 is broken so have fun playing huntsman.
Sniper rifle has no fall-off meaning you can hit for 450 from any distance.Well balanced.
