being friendly is much more like taking a nap than playing another game, you are choosing to be intentionally useless getting in the way of those who would like to actually play the game as intended.
No, you're incorrect. The reason taking a nap on a basketball court is hard to defend is because you can take a nap in many other places. But if literally the only place available to sleep was the basketball court, then suddenly it becomes a legitimate activity for someone to undertake there. Likewise, people who want to enjoy playing as "Friendlies" have only one option for doing so - they have to be playing TF2, and they need to be playing with other people. "But they can do that on a private server!" Well sure. But you could also play "standard" TF2 on a private server. That's not the point, though, because we're specifically talking about Valve servers. If I join a Valve server, I have every right to play TF2 on that server however I want to, short of hacking and the like. You may think that my playing a certain way is having a negative effect on your play, but you could say that about literally anything. Moreover, Team Fortress 2 is a team game - everyone else is already constantly having an effect on your play, both good and bad. Who the hell are you to decide whose performance is "worthy", and whose isn't? Just because you don't enjoy the same sort of gameplay other people do doesn't mean that their preferences are any less valid, or that they have any less right to play that way on a Valve server. So stop whining about how other people won't vote to kick friendlies. If the rest of the server doesn't care, you're free to leave and take your sense of entitlement with you.
Here's the thing - there is no correct way to play. There's no such thing. It doesn't exist. Look at all the community maps and game modes out there which go well beyond anything Valve ever did. If you want to play the game in big head mode, or with random weapons, or just enjoy a few rounds of Prop Hunt, you absolutely can. Now, those require different plugins and special servers, so they can't be played on Valve servers. But there's no correct way to play on a Valve server either. If you want to run around being a Friendly and taunting, go nuts. If you want to be a Fungineer and build a nest in a ridiculous place, go right ahead. Or maybe you want to play the game while stoned out of your gourd. Or maybe you like playing sniper but suck at it. Or maybe you're just gonna voice chat all match long so you can give Marty advice and moral support. The point is, Valve servers are for everyone, and that means everyone is allowed to play the way they want to on those servers. And if the way someone else on a server is playing doesn't fit your playstyle, you can easily just find a different server. If you ran your own server, you could set your own rules and kick people who don't play the way you want to. But on a free server, everything is fair game short of hacking and whatnot.
Actually, you are 100% correct. Anyone is free to be a useless friendly bum, and I'm free to kick their ass till they get out.
Actually, you are 100% correct. Anyone is free to be a useless friendly bum, and I'm free to kick their ass till they get out.
Quite right, assuming that they don't just stick around longer than you do, or that everyone else on the server doesn't side with them and vote to kick you instead. :v: But that still doesn't entitle anyone to whine about them, or to act like jerks toward them. Other people enjoying something you don't is not grounds to act like an asshole.
Or maybe you want to play the game while stoned out of your gourd.
Is there a different way to play the game with all the silly hat-clad cartoon people?
I forgot to tell TWO stories I had stored up for a little while, so here you go. 1- Whenever I get bored, I got to a map that allows me to do stupid shit (Hightower, 2Fort etc etc) and use loadouts I hardly use (Rocket Jumper+Bison Soldier or Widowmaker+Gunslinger Engi that refuses to build minis) and generally have fun. So, I decided maybe Upward would be fun to use those loadouts on. I was going with my regular loadout (Original/Beggar's with Gunboats and Equalizer) then switched my Gunboats for Bison when my team started winning. This one obvious highlander Soldier main on my team got pissed off about the fact I was "using the fucking bison". I tried to explain that it is a pretty neato sidegrade considering it can destroy enemies pretty easily cause it can penetrate etc etc, we had a small fight that was just Any Other Secondary Vs The Bison. But it ended pretty swell, both of us saying "Well, it is entirely our opinion." and going on our merry way. BUT THEN, I joined another Upward server with A DIFFERENT Highlander Soldier main. The guy went absolute nuts when I killed him in a hallway with a crit bison shot and started tunnel-visioning me for the rest of time. I wasn't having too much trouble, since he basically lost half of his skill because he was angry as all hell. Then, this one specific medic started following him arround. One that no matter what, would be able to avoid all damage. I fought with them on the last point while my team was capping, got both of them down in the last second cause the Soldier tried to run into me with the escape plan and I got a crit on the med. The next round, the guy went Reserve Shooter Pyro. It was so obvious that he was tunnel-visioning me, how do I know? He ran by 2 heavies, a demo and a scout shooting at him to get me but failed. Then, he finally managed to get me by doing the "use m2 and just fuckin spam your reserve shooty dude" tactic. He taunted, then told me that I should "git good". I went back to my normal loadout and we had pretty sick fights with him in the tunnels and again, on the last. I managed to dominate him in the last second when I was at low health, just pulled the equalizer and hit him before he could hit me with his Powerjack. He then told me to stop relying on "shitty crutch weapons and get fucking good", then left. 2- I sometimes go on this one fun server, I am even a part of the staff there (Not really a "co-owner" or a "mod", just "respected".) too. They sometimes open up Slender Fortress maps for fun (They do not have the plugins so we just run around having fun) or they open up the main map of the server. So, they opened a slender map and one of the admins decided that he would be Slenderman. We had fun with that for around 20 minutes then others started "Roleplaying" and stuff. I was just watching them do it, disappointed about the fact that they thought ROLEPLAYING INSIDE A VIDEO GAME was fun. Then, I got killed by that admin. I did not give a shit cause I guessed that he would understand that the game was over, but NAH. He kept on killing me and me specifically over, over and over again. I told him to stop "abusing his powers" and got pissed enough to file an abuse report, I asked a friend of mine (which is a part of the staff himself) if I should report him right now... He told me that I had a slim chance of getting what I wanted cause the guy was the friend of the owner and he was right. The owner religiously refused to believe that the guy abused his powers, EVEN AFTER seeing him doing it! Basically, I hate people that abuse their "adman powuz" and people that tunnel-vision you for small reasons.
people that get salty and stay salty over anything other than random crits and another's perfect aim need to take a deep breath
They're both good, Hydro hasn't gotten proper play in half a decade, maybe more than that. When (if ever) Hydro gets added to Quickplay then we can really judge its quality.
Absolutely this. Hydro has been a longtime favorite map of mine not only because it's gorgeous but also because I love how absolutely dynamic it can be. Putting it in the CP rotation would be amazing, especially since CP seems to be the least used quickplay option. I don't think abandoning it entirely is justified.
No, you're incorrect. The reason taking a nap on a basketball court is hard to defend is because you can take a nap in many other places.
So basically you shouldn't take a nap in a basketball court because there are other places to do so? Do you have any idea how many trade/friendly servers exist? By your own logic you shouldn't be friendly on Valve servers because other, much better places exist to do so.
"But they can do that on a private server!" Well sure. But you could also play "standard" TF2 on a private server. That's not the point, though, because we're specifically talking about Valve servers.
You're just going in circles here, one minute you say don't take a nap on a basketball court because there are other places to do so but you shouldn't limit being friendly to appropriate servers because you can do so on "standard" servers? I mean, I can sleep anywhere I want.
@Veloran all im saying is since this game is a first-person shooter, dancers should be killable with no repercussion. fuck dancers who whine about being killed or worse, try to votekick you for it.
Scouts that teleports randomly due to lag. It's like trying to hit a superhero
i abuse this a lot myself by intentionally joining US servers :v:
You're just going in circles here, one minute you say don't take a nap on a basketball court because there are other places to do so but you shouldn't limit being friendly to appropriate servers because you can do so on "standard" servers? I mean, I can sleep anywhere I want.
No, I'm not going in circles. You're ignoring the part where I said that if the only place you can take a nap is on some kind of basketball court, then taking a nap there is perfectly valid.
Likewise, people who want to enjoy playing as "Friendlies" have only one option for doing so - they have to be playing TF2, and they need to be playing with other people.
If you want to go back to the basketball metaphor, this means that "napping" as a friendly cannot possibly occur except on a "basketball court", and is therefor a valid activity for any basketball court, public or private. And just like there are public courts and private courts, there are public and private servers. And if you own your own court, you can make your own rules, and if you want to kick people out for doing anything on that court other than play basketball, you can. But on a public court, you don't make the rules - the court is fair game for everyone to use for any activity they want to use it for that requires the open space of the court. By the same token, a Valve server is likewise fair game for everyone to use for any activity they want to use it for that involves playing TF2 with other people.
When you're trying to get at some tryhard sniper who's been hiding behind his teammates and the server changes before you do, he leaves the server and you forget his name (or his name is too common to follow) i am very salty right now all the times i died trying to get him was when his natascha heavy rammed his minigun barrel up my ass while i tried right at the end of the round some dickhead scout on my team jumped in and stole the kill. No room for satisfaction. What a load of horseshit.
No, I'm not going in circles. You're ignoring the part where I said that if the only place you can take a nap is on some kind of basketball court, then taking a nap there is perfectly valid.
Except I addressed your analogy by pointing out that there are shitloads of servers and are pretty much always populated. They are in no way limited to choosing valve servers.
If you want to go back to the basketball metaphor, this means that "napping" as a friendly cannot possibly occur except on a "basketball court", and is therefor a valid activity for any basketball court, public or private.
This makes literally zero sense, sure they have to be playing TF2 to be friendly on TF2 but I have to be outside to go camping, that doesn't mean it's suddenly ok to just set up a tent on the middle of a public trail, even more so when there are designated areas to do so. Sticking with the napping analogy it's less that there is only the basketball court to nap on and more there is a basket ball court (ordinary TF2 server) with a bunch of beds (trade servers) sitting next to it. Friendlies are basically people ignoring those beds because they are too lazy to use a server browser. In the case of sandvich heavies throwing sanviches to enemy players they're basically a guy that sits in the middle of the court tripping random people on one team.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should, again, if you randomly walked onto a basketball court during a game 90% of people are going to call you a jackass and step on you. You're better off just doing everyone, including yourself, a favor and using a nearby bench. You're out of the way, doing what you want to do, they're out of your way doing what they want to do, and everyone is happy. I'll say it again, and again, and again, trade servers exist and are heavily populated and people there generally have no issue with friendlies. There is literally no reason to go to a Valve server or any other standard game server unless you are just intending to be annoying.
people that get salty and stay salty over anything other than random crits and another's perfect aim need to take a deep breath
people who use the term salty.
people who use the term salty.
That makes 2 of us.
when the server lags why does the lag push your movement backwards that's a bunch of bull
when the server lags why does the lag push your movement backwards that's a bunch of bull
Because the server loses track of where you are briefly, and it reverts to the last "known" location is has stored that it believes is accurate, so it basically rewinds time to that point.
That makes 2 of us.
I hate overused meme buzzwords in general, but someone found a way to take the stupidity that is "u mad bro" and make it even dumber. I dont know what necessarily makes this obnoxious meme buzzword more annoying than the countless others, but I just cant take anyone who uses the word the made up moronic term "salty" in a sentence seriously, the term just has unfunny immature memer boy written all over it.
"salty" isn't a neologism—it's been around for ages, much the same way "bitter" has been used to describe a person. It's just metaphoric language. Tired and cliched metaphoric language, but it's not something new.
You can't deny that its usage exploded about 8 months ago. Its pretty much the new "umadbro"
I don't really know why it exploded. It's old enough that it's found in 90s slang dictionaries. http://thoughtcatalog.com/madison-moore/2013/12/36-slang-phrases-from-the-90s-you-should-use-in-2014/ I used to only see it as as a synonym for coarse and tough like "salty sea dog".
"bruh smh you so salty" makes me cringe so hard I almost get a stroke.
The first time I heard the word "salty" to describe someone bitter was from the Two Best Friends Play.
I honestly haven't heard it used at all until Smash 4 came out.
I've heard 'bitter', 'salty' and 'sour' all used to describe anger. Cool, you took a cooking course. Great job. There's at least two other tastes you haven't used yet. Want to try to make 'sweet' or 'umami' into a dumb euphemism to describe irritation too?
"Salty" is most commonly used in fighting game communities, same with "No Johns". That's why I use them term, anyways. It probably just got around to 9gag or whatever and the kiddies all wanted to look cool or something.
-whoops-
Want to try to make 'sweet' or 'umami' into a dumb euphemism to describe irritation too?
Sweet is already a euphemism for happy, and what the fuck is a umami?
Sweet is already a euphemism for happy, and what the fuck is a umami?
savoury tastes
I always associated the term salty with someone who cussed a lot. Like a Marine Drill Instructor would use salty language.
