when you flat out say SUXXY HAHA YOU'RE BAD it just makes me feel mean for voting
You gotta say something like, "Hey, you've won a prize for your saxxy entry! Congratulations!"
Then give them the suxxy and leave.
Or something like "your hard work have been noted by our small community and we have decided to nominate and reward you for your hard work."
As a long time member of Deviantart Appreciation Station, it's good to know that it's best NOT to antagonize people's for their bad work. And most importantly, never do it in person while saying "we're all laughing at you on our forums", not out of kindness of our hearts (because some of these Deviantart folks are awful), but because we don't want them to register just to defense himself to us, then we would be baiting.
Honestly I was hoping the winner of the suxxy would go to the person who recommended the suxxy, not the maker of the video themselves.

This would be a whole lot better. The creator shouldn't be involved.
I really don't wanna be [i]that[/i] guy, but considering the videos are bad because the creator isn't able to recognise it, therefore might not be of the mindset or maturity to accept criticism for it, it just comes across as really mean spirited to message them out of the blue and say "hey a bunch of people think that thing you worked hard on is shit". The fact they weren't nominated for a saxxy should be enough.

How about next year we just give the Suxxies to just folks who nominated the Suxxy, and not contact the makers and accidentally rub salt into a wound or two.

That...that's actually a really good idea. Since one Suxxy has been rejected and I can't get into contact with the maker of Sniperspy, the remaining Suxxies will be given to the nominators.
