I swear to god I will fucking hang myself soon because of Solo Queuing.
Not soloqueueing sounds like a good solution imho
The other major difference between that and this is simple: there isn't a way to make a reasonable rule to enforce nobody abusing silent jumping for info. Literally every top player has been using the same bug to jump silently for ever. How do you differentiate between using it for silent jumping and using it for info? There is obviously no way to define that fairly. It would be like banning one-way smokes. Maybe it has some merit in theory, but in practice it is entirely unenforceable.

There is no way to enforce it. Players have used it this tournament for a silent jump too, do you ban that too?
What do you all mean by "no way to enforce" it? Disqualify or re-match, it's not like the player silent jumping in-place doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Lets say that in theory an exploit existed where you could walk through solid objects, or gain god mode or something like that. Would that be okay too just because it's in the game? I'm not trying to take sides, but you guys certainly have some interesting stances on the use of exploits and enforcing rules (surely they have a rule about using external programs to gain an unfair advantage already, or match fixing).

The fact that it fucks up your model and hitboxes is a bug. How do you define when the mechanic is being used "properly" and when someone is "abusing" it. What if someone technically does it by accident trying to jump up a ledge whilst crouched? Should they be dq'd or have to replay the map just because they fucked up a single time? Do you think one way smokes should be banned? They're incredibly gay to play against and if you haven't watched your opponents demos and learned which of their smokes can be one wayed then you're gonna get utterly bodied in the same fashion that you're gonna get bodied by someone silent jumping for info then dumping a nade on/prefiring you. Also, there is a bug which lets you avoid taking fall damage or the landing stamina penalty, you uncrouch right before you hit the floor so you go straight from falling to being stood up. It was present in 1.6 too and it was never banned there either. Neither was russian walking, provided you did it manually with your keyboard rather than scrolling crouch, it was a legit mechanic for getting up small ledges.

As for accidental ones that could pass as abuse, I assume a 3rd party would be needed to determine its impact on the round. I understand if the organizers simply don't have the logistics to handle this though, or if they simply allow these things in general. Would I allow it in a match between me and some friends? No. Do I want to see it in matchmaking? No. Do I want to see it in tournaments? As long as the team on the receiving end isn't completely blindsided by it, I don't mind. The latter is regulated, which you claim is impossible with silent jumping.

Rules in sports, and by extension esports, have to be feasible to police and enforce without room for ambiguity. Requiring a third party for the entire purpose of determining if a specific jump violates your rule means your rule is too specific to be effective. Remember that it isn't useful info only when you see them, it's also useful info if you see that they AREN'T there.
I hate playing against it, but I have no idea how much time pro or amateur teams actually invest in the inclusion of one way smokes (and the counter to them). As long as the team on the receiving end isn't completely blindsided by it, I don't mind.
A team being blindsided by something like this, especially so at a Major, is their own fault, either for not putting in the same amount of work in finding things or for not watching their opponents demos (as was the case with BIG, nobody watched their demos because they took them for granted, and they paid the price in getting fucking bodied by god b's big brain). Knowledge and understanding of mechanics is part of the game, if you aren't willing to put in the time to find this stuff then you have nobody to blame but yourself when you lose.
The former doesn't sound like it could sway the outcome of a match in a meaningful way (I could be wrong though, first time I hear about this). The latter is regulated, which you claim is impossible with silent jumping.
Being able to jump off Nuke silo without taking 40 damage can definitely affect the outcome of a round; for example a dinked player being able to jump down directly into A site on Nuke from heaven, or off of silo into outside, or off the catwalks, you could very well shoot someone in the back for free since there is no way you should be able to get down outside of the ladders or t roof. Don't forget the insane jumps and self boosts that are possible due to the fact that it ignores stamina. For example a stairslide combined with a jumpbug bhop off the bricks into lower lets you solo boost onto the wooden box, it's hard as fuck but it's possible. The rule against russian walking was literally you cannot bind crouch to mwheelup/mwheeldown. That's it. That's the extent to which it was enforceable. Also, your point about pixelboosts earlier, pixelboosts weren't ever banned. If they were then getting onto silo on old nuke would have been illegal since you needed to stand on an invisible surface on the pipe. The rule that fnatic got slapped with was an old one about textures becoming invisible, more specifically a texture which was entirely out of the map and didn't affect gameplay but was only present on one side of an object. People spent ages searching for it, too, a shitshow all around considering every team at the time used boosts which were illegal by that rule.
Well, thanks for the feedback. It certainly helped to put things in perspective. Honestly I don't mind that silent jumping was used that way, I just didn't quite understand the stances on it.
For the record I think that the ability to silent jump by uncrouching in the air should stay, but that the discrepancy between the player camera and model/hitbox positions should be fixed. However in the mean time of it not being fixed for the past 8 months or so I feel that it SHOULD be abused as much as possible at high level play, so as to maybe get Valve to actually acknowledge it and start working on fixing it.
I don't blame BIG for abusing the bug because they doing whatever they can that is available and sanctioned by the tournament organizers to win. It maybe dirty but you can't fault them for that. The onus is on Valve to fix it. However, I don't get the reasoning that they played "good" or they still would have won without exploiting the bug when certain info or certain kills can change the whole dynamic and flow of the game. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that BIG would have lost without the bug but there's no way of knowing what the outcome would have been considering a lot of their plays in this major had help from this bug. [editline]20th July 2017[/editline] Funny thing about this tweet is, if North didn't make it past group stage, most in the community would tell him to stop whining. :v:
why is everyone so mad that BIG used a bug/trick that they found how to use to their advantage if it's not against the rules? Also if you think they won just because they used that bug you are dumb. They are a great team plain and simple. They beat the two best teams in the world.
On the subject of the Swiss system being a shit format and whatnot, I feel that a good solution might be a seeded double elimination bracket. You'd probably play BO1 until top 8, and then play BO3. You could even play two matches at once on different streams, one for winners bracket one for losers bracket.
tbh it is not like a new glitch or anything unknown that BIG had used, and I doubt BIG specifically saved this strats for majors either. If their opponents actually checked their demos they would've probably know out about this and pay more attention to their positions, but it is likely most teams just took them for granted and didn't prepare against them, which got them fucked.
If I was a team owner I would pay a few guys to search for legal bugs part time
Im experimenting with crosshair settings in my autoexec, but for some reason it never works straight out of the autoexec. Every time i start the game, my alpha goes to this cl_crosshairalpha 0" 255 for some reason. I have to manually use cl_crosshairalpha 255 in console every time i start playing. I have classic static crosshair in game settings. cl_crosshair_drawoutline "0" cl_crosshairalpha "255" cl_crosshaircolor "4" cl_crosshairdot "0" cl_crosshairgap "-1" cl_crosshairgap_useweaponvalue "0" cl_crosshairsize "2.3" cl_crosshairstyle "4" cl_crosshairthickness "1"

This HE usage out of BIG is actually insane. How long before gentleman's agreement not to use HE grenades?
I'm so hard right now

who's this guy again [editline]22nd July 2017[/editline] nevermind
Apparently I got completely hammered few days ago and decided to go on my smurf to annoy Russians. Between 2 AM and 5 AM - I played 3 Matches on Dust 2. First game I had 3 kills. Second game I had 7 kills. Third game I had -1 kill. I got kicked from all three. I wanted to play smurf today and when I logged in - I just saw this: I was quite surprised :v: I must've been a total jackass... Legit feel bad for it :v: I know how fucking annoying it is playing with drunks (Considering I bitched about them few weeks ago in this very thread)
Does anyone even actually still play the operation modes? I usually just afk it with other people because every match somebody has to use a wallhack and get away with it. It's just not worth the effort to fight against that.
