vac is also piratically non existent on windows too, it literally is just (it does some hashing of memory regions I think but that doesn't stop anyone at all) a blacklist of the most popular modules from when you google "csgo cheet" and sometimes a p2c that gets out of hand
There are no popular cheats on linux because linux in itself isn't popular, so vac just has no place being on there
vac is really good for what minimal effort valve puts into it
This is exactly why if you write your own stuff and don't release it, VAC will never detect it (as long as it doesn't become a fluke and they manage to blacklist the exact thing you've made by pure chance).
If it was an actual anti-cheat system that was invasive and used your machine like it was its personal bitch, even writing your own stuff and keeping it private would still possibly get detected.
Man, I'm even more interested in how VAC works now with how loopy it is when it comes to working, sounds like a neat learning more about it

Last time VAC got semi-intrusive and checked your DNS for the DRM servers that cheats were using, everybody lost their shit. VAC being as intrusive as BattlEye would be nice, but it's not gonna happen sadly.

Hell even that shit that was semi-intrusive wasn't even intrusive at all, all it did was check hashes for site names, nothing was exactly shared and nor did it actually effect you getting banned or not, was more just a secondary check for manual bans which do happen.

Really all you need to know is that VAC is just a bunch of modules, one which checks to ensure memory isn't being messed with (written to as far as I know, it doesn't give a damn about it being read) and the other is a simple blacklist that checks for certain items within the system but only for the game, it can't see any further than that.
Honestly cra0 or even lenny can explain it more because they mess with it, think cra0's even got a few blog posts specifically about VAC.
I doubt Cra0 would take the time to explain vac's workings and any dumb questions that I might ask post explanation :v:
I do however remember reading a blog post Cra0 did about VAC at one point.
It's pretty hard to summarize everything that VAC does because there's so much.
Read RaptorFactor's blog and you get a general idea, but Valve has really stepped up their game a lot in the past year, they largely widened the support for 64 bit in the last year or so.
The most widely known things that VAC does summarized into a little bulletin list:
- Most scans are done in the loading screen
- VAC modules are loaded before any game is opened if the account owns CS:GO
- VAC is streamed in and mapped into SteamService.exe, this changes depending on user privileges
- Integrity checks on .text section of game modules
- Uploads unknown modules for manual analysis
- You cannot use systemwide hooks against VAC because they use jmp gates to call what they want
- At one point there were integrity checks on game functions (CreateMove, PaintTraverse, etc), this was to stop you from bytepatching the function and having it call your own, I've heard these have been disabled but I'm not sure.
- Uses event logs against you
- Uses USN journal to see when things start and stop running
- Knows if DEP is disabled
- Knows if KPP is disabled
- Knows of modules loaded via LoadLibraryA
- Enumerates PEB
- Checks where created threads originate from
- A whole lot more
Keep in mind, this is just scratching the very surface of what VAC does, there is way, way, way more.
[editline]11th December 2016[/editline]
People greatly underestimate how wonderful VAC is at what it does, it's actually a very complex anti-cheat, it's just meant to have as few false positives as possible, which means it doesn't ban even when someone does something very suspicious because the anti-cheat isn't 100% sure someone is cheating, it is very, very difficult to stay undetected once you're on Valve's radar because they will target you.
Anyone wanna make a gambling site and get ez money and skins from kids?

Deütschland über alles?
Was in a match today and I swear three of the people were baked or throwing. One of them said "yea dude I forgot my key bindings, i don't know what I'm doing."
He went like 1 and 25, and at one point just sat on bombsite A saying "um, what do I do now." He had bomb and it was 1v1.
I was carrying as much as I could, but I couldn't win it.
Another guy fucking saved 5 rounds in a row until he had like 11k to only then buy an M4 and armor. Rest of the game he told people "don't you dare call me a thrower"
Another constant tries knifing or would miss an AWP shot from pit to A and then switch to his glock to try and finish him off.
Feels bad man.
Does anyone know how to run autoexec? I thought it would automatically run if present in "csgo/cfg", but that doesn't seem to be the case. Googling just tells me to change the extension, not helpful. I tried to add "exec autoexec.cfg"/"exec autoexec"/"exec "autoexec"" in config.cfg and putting +exec autoexec in the launch options, but it will just not run until I put in "exec autoexec" manually.

Nice plays, but some advice: keep out the non-flashy/stylish kills. A lot of people do the same thing, but the frags weren't too interesting to watch. Even if it was a 3 kill, or 4 kill round, it's not that entertaining to watch someone play CSGO normally with some edits to a fast paced song in the background. Though the video is short enough that it doesn't detract from it much

no offense, but you aren't nutty enough to be worth making a fragmovie out of

Aye fair play, kept it short for that reason.
no offense, but you aren't nutty enough to be worth making a fragmovie out of
Nah no frag movie mate. I was offloading some older shadow play footage.
In the form of a fragmovie.
That video is either about the clips or the editing, and since it's not even that edited by process of elimination it must by about the frags. Movie about frags = fragmovie.

Also they fucked with the SAS models in this update.
They look like they're from COD.

Does this mean playermodel randomization is/will be gone, since they all look the same? That sucks, it's one of my favorite features of GO ;(
Playermodel randomisation is stupid and should be removed. The fact that some models can stick out of certain spots (like the IDF models and their backpacks) whilst others don't is fucking busted in a game which is meant to be competetive.
They should at least make minmodels ect. work again.

Are you guys ready for customisable player models / cosmetics?
autoexec.cfg should be running automatically if csgo has the permissions to read it(some cases it just doesn't do this)
otherwise you can just do +exec autoexec.cfg
otherwise throw whatever you'd throw in your autoexec in your config.cfg cause that DOES get read 100% of the time
host_writeconfig at the end of autoexec. Nothing else, please. Because invariably launch options are gonna get wiped and people are gonna get confused.

All the IDF models have backpacks, you're thinking of the mitznefets.
All the IDF models have backpacks, you're thinking of the mitznefets.
i swear one of the idf models has a fucking huge backpack compared to the rest of them
the jewish power hats dont really make the stick out worse, they just make getting headshots more annoying

Had to move it to the userdata to get it to work. Runs now, but the viewmodel settings get overwritten somehow. Tried to put the settings in their own cfg and replacing the settings in config.cfg, but I still need to manually execute it.
Would anyone here be interested in a weekly map playtest thing? I'm trying to get better at mapping by making a small CS:GO map every week next year.
Anyone willing to play with me and my friend? I'm very close to a DMG rank up, 1 match or 2 away from it, and we could use an extra helping hand. http://steamcommunity.com/id/whatisupguys/
Add me if you want to join up, we're starting in few minutes
how much?
how much?
There is no problem in starting now, because we're both just waiting if anyone wants to join in
