Honestly I don't know how I feel about Dust2 being remade. Like, if they start adding new pathways and shit I'm going to be pretty pissed because they don't need to fuck with the 51-49 balance of the map, but if they bring back the yellow from all the previous versions (since they seem to be adding a lot of color to all their map remakes, this isn't a hugely unreasonable expectation" I'd be pretty happy about it.

They're going to widen mid, set it indoors, add sniper balconies to both sides, and ultimately just redesign it to be ctf_turbine.
But really, they won't be touching the layout of the map if they don't have good reason to. It's [I]the[/I] Counter-Strike map. It's just that its current visuals were made when CS:GO was launched, making it the map with the oldest artpass in active duty. It was simply next in line.
However, as I understand, the map's balance is fine, but tactically it's stale. I'd say it'd be worth exploring ways to enrich the strategic potential while maintaining the good balance and simplicity the map is known for.

Doubtful. The architecture of the background maybe but the texturing is god awful and if inferno, which needed actual gameplay changes didn't change up the bombsites much I highly doubt they'll change this up. The car/karrigan area looks awful as well.
People can shit on new maps all they want from various perspectives (they've got plenty of bug and c4 stuck spots) but the design and texturing tends to be of a pretty high quality. This is not even up to the standards of mirage.

That's good and bad at the same time. Higher amount of people will play on it which means more shit players will trash the ranks, but when playing with a fullteam it's easy to stomp the rest.

this isn't going to affect competitive on the post-silver (or gold nova [I]at worse[/I]) levels [I]at all[/I] because there are no active duty/reserve groups in comp and most people who play more than Dust2 already know Mirage.

Theres some sort of curiosity within me, wanting to play through CSO2's versions of the existing maps, They're probably gonna be terrible as shit, but I just want to play through all of them, See what they've done and or fucked up.

They're really just reskinned versions of CSS maps, train is a near exact port and dust as you can see has just had an art style swap.

I managed to avoid being kicked sometime ago by disconnecting a little before the 4th guy voted 'yes'. I mean, I got kicked, but I could still rejoin and play.

Iirc it still counts as a kick though, so if you end up not dodging the kick later, you get a much higher penalty.
