call me late, but when they announced this on the blog or the FAQ no one said anything about it being a contest, nor that there is a deadline, nor anything about prizes. i mean, i found this out purely by accident just about now
I wish programmers could ever get a contest or monetary reparations or anything. Valve only love arty fellows :(
I wish programmers could ever get a contest or monetary reparations or anything. Valve only love arty fellows :(
Technically speaking, as a programmer we have 'bounties' and rewards for finding bugs and not disclosing them until they're fixed. Although VALVe haven't had the best track record about bounties and security problems (the guy who found a major security flaw and VALVe never listened to him so he decided to show them the extent of what the issue was...only to have his publishing rights removed from his account comes to mind). In saying that, they rewarded those who discovered the 'Giftapult to key' glitch.
Not really what I meant, but yeah, I guess.

EDIT: you know, if you could think of a sensible way to montoise programming content, you should email the team? I can't think of any method that wouldn't be either charity, or linked to a big project.
I'm pretty sure a bunch of community people told Valve about the vulnerabilities that not allow bug bounties could cause, and Valve basically responded with "we're deeply concerned about vulnerabilities but we're not actually going to tell you what we're going to do about them, and if you want bug bounties you can fuck right off". I think they even copy-pasted the response from somewhere else, but don't quote me on that.
I'm pretty sure a bunch of community people told Valve about the vulnerabilities that not allow bug bounties could cause
what.
what.
I phrased it weirdly, but here.
I phrased it weirdly, but here.
Hey look, it's me. :v: [editline]22nd September 2014[/editline] Also the only 'bounties' so far have been Unusuals. I can't feed myself with an Unusual!
There could still be a business for designing an mvm tour or at least suggesting a change in the ui
So do it. Make a thing, send it to them, see if they want to take it. Any situation were valve comes to somebody and says 'hey look, we know you can kinda do this, maybe if you did it we would pay you? Want to give it a try?' is charity. That's not how this works. Every case were Valve has 'rewarded' the community is because they started doing a thing of their own accord, did it well, and impressed them enough to want to reward them. This is why I think it's funny when people say they will 'pitch an update' to them-- just make the update, reveal it to the public, get people working together on the project because THAT is what proves it's a viable product, not a bunch of 'what if' ideas. Saying that though, I do wish there were more avenues for people who aren't artists to be rewarded in these communities. Valve aren't going to use recourses figuring this problem out for us though, it's a priority for the communities programmers, not Valves. We're gonna have to lay an egg before the chicken can hatch!
So is this thread dead? I feel like people gave up easily on the merch section.
So is this thread dead? I feel like people gave up easily on the merch section.
TF team didn't make it very clear if/when there would be another round of acceptings. It's safe to assume after the first round they'll wait a little while before accepting more
Not really 5 new shirts and a poster.
That Scout logo is ugly as hell. Also I didnt give up, I'm just rather busy but still got some ideas which are "bland" but seeing this scout thing, I think that simple and ugly stuff can get accepted now, so I have a chance...
Not really 5 new shirts and a poster.
Yay my Bread Moon Shirt!
god i need that mousepad o_o
only the EOTL poster looks remotely interesting.
I got a question for the first people that got their designs in, how much do these shirts sell? I mean, i know that welovefine has got lots of brands, and stuff like MLP or Bravest Warriors sells like hotcakes, but what about Valve's games?
So is this thread dead? I feel like people gave up easily on the merch section.
it really seems like it. it makes sense too, the workshop is so full of garbage designs and just random ideas (a fucking real life bills hat is on the front page along with god knows what else) and since there's no filtering and since the, "making a design is easy anyone can do it!" mentality has spread, its effectively pushed real designers out of the way and a bunch of shitty, half-assed garbage is controlling the scene. but hey, in brighter news, WLF is sending our demoman quote tee to valve as a sample.
the whole thing was just a half assed excused to put WLF's own stuff on the spotlight. but as ikes pointed, they didn't expect the steam inquisition flooding the workshop with nothing but shit.
An idea popped up into my head, how about little Robot heads for keychains? (maybe a blind box sort of thing where you get a random robot head of varying type (rust, silver, etc))

I honestly am not surprised at this
that poster is fucking sexy, as is the EOTL one the shirts range from okay to abominations, but the posters so far are fantastic
