Remember that skins are randomly rotated as well, not sure how good that's going to look with that in mind ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On another note, I've been, well, trying to work on weapon skins, but good lord I'm terrible at it. I've tried a dozen or so concepts, testing things like colour gradients/noise/pattern detail and they all look awful apart from two...one of which ended up just looking like a copy of Macaw Masked when I tried a caterpillar looking skin, and the other being the porcelain skin I've posted on the discord a few times, which I can't seem to get looking good in terms of noiseness.
And then I look at the simple and good-looking designs in-game and on the workshop and mostly give up lol

It's all over the place.
patterns can be 1024 or 2048, weapon reskins (dragon slayer) are all 2048 [I]except[/I] the dragon's fury which is 1024.
It's pretty much use your head atm and do what you think is best.
I think they will make the in-game importer have the ability to preview custom submitted war paints in the future, that the textures will only be accepted if their resolution is 2048x2048 for the primary part and 1024x1024 for the secondary.
Tried my hand at War Paints, had this "gritty even on factory new" idea for a while.

Assign the mesh to the bip_head bone, select the whole hat with the "A" key in "Edit Mode", zoom in on your selected mesh with the "," key (Delete button on the number pad), change the height and shape of the hat for each class using the X,Y,Z axis and just save your .smd as "demo_hat, heavy_hat, pauling_hat" etc.

Thanks, but that's not the part I needed help with. I'll try to be more specific. I'm talking about modifying the mesh to fit the classes better, and not having to change it for every LOD seperately. If i recall correctly Maya has some sort of feature for that.

A better concept would be to make it a pile of bullets instead of a row of them, though that would be hell to tile.

I think predicting when people will slow down when it comes to making weapon skins is kinda hard to predict by itself, too, because there's going to be people that'll do nothing but pump out these warpaints and offer no real signs of uniqueness or originality.
It's the contributors that actually spend time on these things and make something actually good that'll settle down, not the spammers.

There were people here that have pumped out cosmetics ideas without any sign of improving, it's not exactly a new occurrence. If it happens, it happens. Let the mods get rid of the really bad ones that are made just to be funny and/or controversial.

It isn't a bug, It's pretty common it's simpler to paint it then use a map to fake it.

We did texture that on to save polies, I suppose valve would have to include it in the ao or mask it out in the groups texture to fix it
