I hate that you cant gift games to friends from other countries. Was gonna surprise someone with a game, only to remember that Steam put that dumb restriction in.
Sucks out half the fun of sales, honestly.
surprise them with money
Sales are good, games are good, but we just bought every single worthy game over the years. That's comparing a huge library of all good games on steam that you never played VS a couple of good new games released since last year or two that you haven't played by getting them on release.
Steam did this weird thing to me, it locked me out of the market because I dared add funds from a debit card I used before, but as far as I can tell it still lets me buy things from the store?
How recent is this? Because I have definitely used this card before.

lol, at least they acknowledge the issue
So I just picked up the Steam Link and I have two questions:
- Is it possible to minimize or hide the game I'm streaming on my PC when it's being Linked to my TV?
- I was getting some frame drops when I dicked around with Ori & tBF, could this be because I'm on wifi and not ethernet, or is it a problem with my TV?

99.9% its the fact you're on wifi

- Yes. If you have a usual console controller like the XB360/Xbone/DS3/DS4 controller, first, make them customizable with Steam's own system (if you have a Steam Controller you obviously don't have to do this. Then go into Big Picture settings on the Host PC, then "Controller Base Configurations", then "Steam Button Chord configuration". There you can see a standard configuration that, as far as I remember, already has a binding for Alt-Tabbing; create one if it doesn't. After that just click XBox Guide button/PS button/Steam button + the binding
- See if there's a framedrop on the host machine in the same stress moments. I've only used one encoding/transcoding setup, and I've seen quite a lot of variation in performance. Using Nvidia's hardware encoding and VDPAU I have some new GPU intensive games running 55-60 with no percievable performance lost (compared to when not streaming) and some stuff like GTA San Andreas running 20 frames slower (again, compared to when not streaming)

Thanks for the info. It looked flawless on my PC but had the skips on the TV.
edit: figured it out, but it's not doing what I wanted it to. I'm trying to have the game maximized on my TV but not on my PC's monitor.
You can't run the steam link properly without having it wired. It's plain silly not to have it connected.

Not every house has Ethernet jacks in every room. Which means you either have a steam linked attached to your modem or use wireless.

Ethernet over power? (Powerline)
Ethernet over power? (Powerline)
This technology is even rarer than cable jacks in homes in most of the USA. Which were rare since everyone wanted phone lines in every room with only one room having a TV cable connection. Things are changing so that Cable jacks are in most new houses rooms but since a great deal of ISP use the "1 Modem, 1 Router" model for homes its not a priority to have Ethernet or hardline internet connections in most rooms. Which now is having the hilarious trickle-down effect of congested neighborhoods having signal interference due to so many wifi connections using the same channels.

As people have already mentioned, Wi-Fi isn't really fit for stuff like this. If there's no way to use a wired connection near the actual place you want to use the Steam Link, you should still try to do so, if you can, at least to test whether or not the connection is at fault here. It's probably the connection, but then again, I've used super early Moonlight builds on a hacked Vita (which has a really bad Wi-Fi module) and didn't have any framedrops at 720p. I had pretty bad input lag, yes, but no framedrops.
If it's not the connection, try fiddling with the stream settings, some old games run better for me when I use software encoding, some games work better with Nvidia's hardware solution. If you have an Nvidia card, try the NVFBC capture method. It has improved my stream's latency in a few games.

I'm not sure I understand. Every window is usually maximised when streaming - even stuff like launchers, which have small windows, or games like Undertale which are, like, 640x480 by default - they all get stretched fullscreen on the client. I don't own a Steam Link, but I do use In-Home Streaming very often, and that's always the case.

Where can I view this page? Can't find it in the one linked at the top of the store (with the sticker book an FAQ section)

Go to badges and press the 'How do I earn card drops?' on the Steam Summer 2017.

While normally true, a lot of people report having less delays with wireless. Even me. I used it wired at first but then compared and for some reason an ethernet connection is slower.
I've got it set up with my Samsung Smart TV now, but when the Link is plugged in with ethernet, my TV's wifi doesn't work and it gets no internet connection. Is this supposed to happen?
Not every house has Ethernet jacks in every room. Which means you either have a steam linked attached to your modem or use wireless.
Or, get an ethernet switch.

Samsung has a Steam App now, also the link is useless over wifi

No, that shouldn't happen
No, that shouldn't happen
It's possible his router is kicking the tv offline if its using the same local ip, depends how his router is configured
It's possible his router is kicking the tv offline if its using the same local ip, depends how his router is configured
But shouldn't the router's DHCP server give out IPs in such a fashion that this doesn't happen?
It's really weird nonetheless

This is what it seems like it's doing.
Trust me, you chose wisely.
Just Ori is worth its full price, I am not even talking about the others
I, and some of my friends have had a number of issues regarding steam starting up recently.
A common factor we have is that we run windows 10
Steam will say it can't connect (and does after a retry)
or it's stuck on the connecting as %username%
and even... this, on this screen for twenty minutes maybe
[t]https://tenryuu.blob.core.windows.net/astrid/17-06-29_19-04-58-Steam.png[/t]
anyone else had these issues?
just getting some data

I am going to recommend trying doing the most basic trick, running as administrator, it has done the trick for me at least ever since I started having problems with launching Steam.

If it's not a permanent fix it's not worth
the faster thing for me to do is for stream to be launched from a uri
I just run steam://connect/literally anything and works fine
sticker showcase doesn't show in big picture

Big Picture is a pain
I hate that when in the Steam Overlay in BP, pressing "right" will shift the selection from "Return to Game" to an invisible button that's still active (it's "friends who play"). In order to get to the actual button that's positioned to the right of "Return to Game" you have to press "right" twice
