I don't think valve allows you to reuse parts they made anyway.

the lightwarp definitely doesn't help though even the parts that look like the smoothing is correct look gross

I know he won't find my post here unless someone directs him to it, so I'll spit it out. The kid added me when I commented on his profile a few days ago, asking him what lightwarp he was using in one of his screenshots (I visited his profile through that fullstop thing since the in game screenshots of the weapon looked like they were using it). He immediately asked if I knew anything about modeling out of know where, and I told him very little and that it depends on what the issue is. He asked why his weapon wasn't showing up and I offered him some help so I read through his QC and looked at the model (I think he hacked the default scattergun's handle off and modeled around the barrel tbh). I recompiled it and sent his blender save back with minor smoothing fixed (and believe me, it was way worse before I touched it). I told him I ran the model through a quick and messy edge split modifier and that he'd need to fix up the rest on his own before submitting it, since I didn't want to baby him all the way through. He spent very little time working on the texture, and didn't even touch up the smoothing by the looks of it. And to be fair, I don't use my lightwarp anymore and it does look a little better in place without it. Not saying that's the main cause at all, it just does bring out the ugly shading from the smoothing errors on the underside of the barrel more.
I admit I'm no modeler, but I would've felt bad sending him to a pro when I do know how to scan qcs for errors and minor model issues (i hear on the emporium from time to time about people getting random friend requests from users asking stupid questions and how talking to them is like talking to a brick wall). I gave him advice and he didn't accept it. He even said once "i know weapons don't get accepted, so i'm doing this just for fun". I went along with it out of sympathy and regret doing so to be honest. I feel bad for him and the situation. I guess even me trying to cover his mistakes up for him.

I've just got too much of a heart sometimes. I do stupid shit for others out of kindness against my better judgment. And yeah, I messaged him that I'd rather not be added for the sake of the model and texture looking how they do. I didn't even put much into what I helped with at all, it was just a bit of "i'll help you a little but after that, you're on your own again".
