While this is actually a really well made cosmetic, I can only imagine all the "Furries ruined tf2" bullshit that would happen if valve added this.

It's not workslop by any means, posting every animal-based item in the workshop would be stupid anyways. It's just an item, no need to post here about how people will get pissed that it's added to the game (if it gets added).

What is actualy the big reason for people hating furries and everything even remotely related to an animal-human hybrid? That would mean that all the bird heads and the scottish snarl would be frowned upon.

The hate mainly stems from gay men having sex(yiffing) in fur suits even though straight couples can do it too (sometimes a stereotype is hard to shift it seems). There's also a large collection of furry-hentai with large, prominent wangs on display which doesn't help the image (seems to provoke the automatic "MUST HATE!" response in a lot of people. It's like Hillbillys hating immigrants who provide to the economy but because they don't understand the latter, just 'hate' them because their neighbour does etc).
That coupled with the internet's ability to leap onto the nearest 'hate wagon' when something like this appears (GamerGate being another example with it's Social Justice Warriors fighting each other; with most just there to fight).
Kigurumi is another example of this. Someone cosplays as an anime character (with, sometimes, unnerving mask and bodysuit) but because men also do it (female body suit to give the image), it starts the 'automatic hate becus not womahn' response.

I'm not a expert but I think it really stems off from the certain things that would be taboo and off putting to people that considers themselves "normal" in the head that you can see in the fandom and it's not just fursuits to blame, certain fetishes that shall not be named that can make 90% of people cringe hard enough and so on.
It's not a good idea to generalize a group of fans(and people) because not everyone in the group/fandom will like all things other fans like or make in the group/fandom but hey, it happens all the time and especially with things getting popular.
