Black Mesa V6 - 'Not sure about the shotgun'-edition

I have nothing but praise for BM. The only negative points I would ever bring up is the music direction (piano will never fit half-life), and that weapons were made 1:1 to HL1 (a shame, the mod variants were so unique and satisfying) but those things are easily overlookable.
It's sad that MP only lives through update spikes, but not unexpected. Sourcemods are essentially always like this.
The best part? BM isn't an "ideas guy mod" that died within a year. Congratulatory remark to all of the team. You have earned every dollar.
Game could be final right now without Xen and I wouldn't be disappointed one bit.
it'd be nice if that got fixed because the crossbow is completely useless against grunts at any far distances
Only place where I found this to be a huge issue was near the start of Surface Tension on the cliffside before the helicopter fight, where you have to aim down to the station with the explosive barrels and grunts. Everywhere else, though annoying, was manageable if you could lead them properly. I'd usually fire at where I thought they'd run when the bolt flew at them.
My main issue with the crossbow is one that's unfortunately not easy to fix, which is where the bolts originate from. It's way too easy to think you have a clear shot and then have a bolt get stuck in the handrails you forgot were in front of you. This can be fixed with scoping in, but that has a whole different set of problems.
That being said, yes, it'd be nice to not have to lead every grunt individually with a weapon that used to be really convenient.

I love a lot of Black Mesa's soundtracks, but I agree some parts of it are unfitting.
The soldier hands still glitch through the MP5 when holding/firing it.
Speaking of the MP5, it's by far the ugliest gun in the game. Will it get redone like the shotgun?

Even the shotgun still has issues.

Pretty much every world model is done in a really annoying way that makes fixing errors like this tedious.

It already was re-done when the game was released on steam so I don't really see the point.

I'm very sure he means the world model for the MP5. It hasn't been updated since the 2012 mod release, and it looks like crap compared to the other weapons.

but that's not true either. The original w_model had a flash hider.

A thread i started on the blackmesa website about a wip map dy_uplink, i'm constructing

I'm just surprised that there isn't a skin of the mp5 anywhere that works well with the steam release.
trying to capture the black mesa feeling.

Needs more barrels, then
True, but I always feel guilty when I'm placing barrels in a map :c

Don't.

None of these were spawned in. It's perfectly okay to clutter your map up slightly, just do so without it hindering its playability.
It's only a problem if your idea of "detail" is a crate or barrel in any corner or empty space. It's okay to use them - they're very Half-Lifey - but relying on them is an amateurish trait.
had an update a couple minutes ago
there's no word about it even on their official forums
Just go with the original half life design philosophy: stuff random shit EVERYWHERE
Its a giant ass facility, you really think folks are gonna bother keeping it clean?
Speaking of the giant-ass facility, was there any particular reason why a good chunk of it halfway through the game is just totally flooded?
Where else would you put all the water?
flush it down the toilet
since one of the devs read this thread, please tell your team to fix it so the rpg rocket actually spawns in the proper place, because it spawns like a foot above the view model right now, and i kept dying fighting the tank in c2a5f because i was taking cover behind a wall to shoot my rockets at it. the rocket hit the door frame above me all the time.
i understand its probably got to do with the player model w_ origins or something, but it's an issue that might be worth looking into.
that's how it is in HL1, to an extent.
so technically it really is faithful
apparently the rocket launcher thing is fixed on their internal build, neato.
Say what you will about some tracks in Black Mesa's soundtrack, but

god DAMN
This sunset section, with this music, has to be my favorite part of Black Mesa.
I know it's a little far-fetched, but I do hope most of the NPCs get at least some sort of animation improvement like with the HECU. Nothing too serious, but maybe something like having idle Barneys adjusting their holsters and fidgeting like in Half-Life and scientist animations actually having weight behind them.
Didn't post this in here yet, making a FEAR/Smod inspired particle pack for BM

I have been playing Black Mesa recently and Jesus Christ the HECU. I want every ones honest opinion on this subject because I'm genuinely interested, would you rather have the HECU have weapon spread similar of that the combine? Its kinda a pick your poison situation with me, on one hand the Half Life 2's solution makes the enemies laughably bad in small numbers especially if they are using SMGs, but something about the Combine makes them more fun to fight, maybe its because you can stay in the action more because of there shoddy aim or something along those lines. The HECU on the other hand is frustratingly accurate, 90% of my time in Black Mesa is stuck behind a wall or a pillar I wouldn't dare move from for fear of getting obliterated by the laser pointers the HECU have under their control, it makes them threatening on a higher level then the Combine, but often leads to frustrating gameplay and a general feeling of being pinned down. Honestly I'm not sure how they could fix this if they felt the needed to, The SMG right now has the same role as the Combine AR2, its a highly accurate weapon use to force the player into better cover, the only problem is 80% of the HECU have it. If they had a different kind of weapon that functions like the SMG in HL2 that the HECU could use then I feel like the game would be better for it. Maybe the majority of the HECU could use the glock in automatic mode so then we could have 50% Glock users 30% SMG users 20% Shotguners in the HECU, I mean the Glock is pretty accurate but nothing crazy, at least less frustrating as SMG so maybe this is a good solution...
But I mean hey this is coming form the guy that hate fighting the HECU in the original Half Life so :v:
I think I remember a tweak back from the mod days that made the HECU better; it had something to do with increasing their reaction time delay, since part of the problem was they'd just nail you right as they see you, giving you little to no time to react.
It'd be great if an M16 eventually got added, so some HECU would be more accurate and damaging with the M16, while others would have a weaker, less accurate MP5 SMG.
It's that coupled with the fact they basically fire in full auto. In HL1 they fired in 3 round bursts with a short delay. If you slightly increase the values in their cone vector, reduce their cooldown time, made their bursts fire volleys of 3, and ever so slightly increase their idle-to-alert cooldown timer, they're actually pretty bareable, and in a lotta cases, fun to fight against. I know I've said it a million times, but you'd be amazed how much difference a single dmx or cfg can make.
