That is impressive. I don't recall Xen being particularly short, either... I hope they don't overdo it. Anyway I finally bought Black Mesa so I look forward to getting into it.
Don't worry, we won't overdo it. We've being very cognizant of pacing and storytelling - our prime focus is to make Xen fun and memorable - that's the issue of supreme importance to us. The art is crucial too obviously, but first and foremost we want to make sure that Xen is really fun and unique.
As a question, since you seem to enjoy the little details, will going to Xen involve Gordon putting on a helmet, or will he just be able to breathe in the Xenian atmosphere (or whatever they have)?
Why Gordon will put a helmet on? As the scientist said in the locker room of the Anomalous Materials Lab, the helmet was "optional". So I think that there would be no real need of it. Probably the scientists found that the atmosphere in Xen was breathable, but they use helmets for fear of contamination with some alien pathogen. In urgent situation that Gordon was, would not have sense he waste time putting a helmet on.

The scale difference in those Xen screenshots just took me by surprise!
So is it going to play more like Xen from blue shift? That was my favorite chapter in that game
Quite honestly I would love to put the helmet on. I think it'd be cool to kinda have the visor in your face in the alien environment. Or at least an animation akin to the HEV startup sequence or something if you don't want it in your face the whole time.
a maze of vents and low tier opponents that have no chance to deal serious damage?
Only in the beginning, until you get to the focal point relay that is; after that, it becomes sort of a mad scramble to get back where you first teleported. In between there were sections where Alien Crafts either A: sent Vortigaunt reinforcements or B: took chunks of the floating islands you're supposed to get through.
The leaked grappling hook sounds like it could be exactly what would work really well for xen, imagine long jumping off a ledge, shooting a hook at an outcropping of rock, swinging up into the air, and shotgunning a vort on your way down back to the ground. There's so much awesome stuff you could do with it, I'm really excited (ofc it's not confirmed, it might have been removed in a later build but it would be fucking sweet).

Uhhh, anyone know how to change the ammo amount in this version? I'm trying to put the HL1 stats.
Uhhh, anyone know how to change the ammo amount in this version? I'm trying to put the HL1 stats.
is there a skill.cfg anywhere in Black Mesa's files?
Hate to burst your bubble, guys (I do, sometimes it's really fun to watch the rampant speculation), but I'd just like to interject that while our Xen is a total redesign and will be very different to the original - it will still be Half-Life-y at its core. It's uncharted territory, but it's definitely still in our vision of the Half-Life universe. What I'm saying is, the grapple gun is a prop. Not a usable weapon.
What I'm saying is, the grapple gun is a prop. Not a usable weapon.
Which should have been obvious considering it's in 'props' and not 'weapons'.
is there a skill.cfg anywhere in Black Mesa's files?
Yeah, there is but I change the ammo count and no changes happen
Anyone have any pics of this grapple gun/hook?
Having a huge area to navigate with the jump module will probably be fun enough in itself.
Watch as newcomers that never played before BMS or HL gets stuck/takes forever to beat Xen because they don't know how to use the Long Jump Module (in my first time, I skipped the Hazard Course, so I had to use the Tau cannon to jump between islands :v: ). Hopefully the Hazard Course dev team will finish soon their work. It would be a good idea to add it into the game.

About the grapple gun, anyone thinks it's a reference/joke to Freeman's Mind too?

snip because whatever i say isn't relevant
HL1 also had no appearing button prompts, so I doubt this is going to be a problem.
Although it had game_texts for explaining it, however. The posted crouch-jump fail video comes to my head everytime I bring back this topic.
I know that, I read the post, but it does not mean it couldn't be added as some optional feature. Also, I remember Opposing Force had something similar (a bit limited) and I think it was a very cool addition to the game, pretty fun and I enjoyed using it. Anyway, I just wanted to express how much I'm interested seeing something different as a grapple gun. I'm not disappointed they won't add grapple gun btw, it's fine, the game is great and not adding a new weapon won't make it bad.
you just know someone is going to make a grapple mod like the hl1 grapple mods.
Black Mesa V7 - Is the grapple gun a weapon?
