I hope we see Protozoans in Xen (or Black Mesa for that matter). There's only a single one in Half-Life, but it looks cool and I'd always wished we could see more of them in the actual Xen chapters. Like, imagine one of these redone in HD. [t]http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/half-life/images/7/7a/Of_protozoa_close.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20100129115331&path-prefix=en[/t]
Gonna marathon this game into HL2 and beyond. Wish me luck.
Do the summer sale quest things and sell the cards, should get you there (unless the whole get-13-your-first-time thing was a bug)
We're considering doing a pass to go over the Earthbound outdoor areas once more later on, but it's dependant on A LOT of things so I can't really tell you for sure if it will happen or not, or what what pass would even entail when we got to it.
I'm the chapter lead for Interloper, and I can promise you that it's going to be amazing if you liked the original one. The Xen Thumpers are back WITH A VENGEANCE.
Having followed STU and OARU from the start, I have complete confidence in you :cat:
The scientists had complete confidence in Godron as well :v:
turns out they had much better luck with Gordon instead
Our graphics programmer actually already wrote his own implementation of PBR for us, but we decided not to use it for reasons that I cannot remember perfectly...
Maybe you guys could experiment with custom PBR after the ZEN update. (unless you have even more plans for after the ZEN update)
Maybe you guys could experiment with custom PBR after the ZEN update. (unless you have even more plans for after the ZEN update)
It is Xen, not Zen.
I'm not sure wheter to find it funny or sad that they had to change the crate puzzle in c1a1e to static props since jumping off physic objects is so awful in source

Bought BM on sale and can't wait to see Xen released! I have a question regarding soundtrack and especially soundtracks that revolve around Xen: have you considered/are you creating some tracks that resemble "Dimensionless Deepness" from HL1 or other sub-aquatic music, as the Xen approach you have does have an aquatic space theme in it?
Bought the game on Sale. It's alright. Not amazing, not bad. I might actually post more descriptive text once I finish the game and collect my thoughts. [editline]27th June 2017[/editline] Also the Xen teaser screenshots are not really all that interesting to me.
It sounds as if you'd compare the game to the impressiveness of that of a standard source mod.
I just really dislike some of the changes they did, especially considering gameplay and level design.

The term "remake" was used by fans but the team behind the mod always took it as a "re-imagination" and said that they make the mod the way Valve would have done if they had the Source Engine in 1998. Not a 1:1 remake.
Did anyone ever solve the pizza ARG?
Did anyone ever solve the pizza ARG?
prolly not
It helps to look at it as more of a re-imagining than remake of Half-Life; Regardless what the intentions were when the project was started.
Yeah, "remake" is certainly a bit inaccurate at this point. Much to my surprise when I bought the full version a few days ago, after only playing through the mod version once when the mod version was very first released, I got into a few points in the early game where after taking a few steps into a new area I realized I didn't have a fucking clue where I was going. This sort of thing is toned down a lot once you get past the first few chapters, but there's still plenty of redesigned areas and other small things like a door being locked and requiring vent traversal or a crank being missing because it's laying on the ground elsewhere. Really, the only thing I'm unappreciative about in the level design is that I can't slide down the side of the giant freight elevator anymore. Overall, my only complaints are just that and the "access denied" voice being gone. But, right after said freight elevator there's [sp]that room with a locked door, blood trail, and eerie "access denied" voice on the other side[/sp] and I liked that callback. [editline]30th June 2017[/editline]
I don't know, how do you do that? It follows Half Life too close to be a re-imagination. I can see how Fallout is re-imagination of Wasteland, but Black Mesa is straight up remake.
Fallout isn't a re-imagination of Wasteland though, it's a spiritual successor.
there's still plenty of redesigned areas and other small things like a door being locked and requiring vent traversal or a crank being missing because it's laying on the ground elsewhere. [editline]30th June 2017[/editline]
My biggest gripe with Black Mesa is the changed weapon introductions (getting the pistol later and getting the .357 instead of the shotgun)
So is the Workshop still busted? My old computer wasn't really able to run the paid version of Black Mesa well, but i'm installing it again.
So people should compare it to Quake 2 or what? There's no need to be so sensitive to criticism. CC knew full well what they were signing up for by pursuing not original work: immediate comparisons. This re-imagination narrative is just full of shit, that's not what Black Mesa is. It seem like it actually might be the case with Xen, but we haven't played that yet.
Uhh, I only clarified it that a 1:1 remake was never their goal, nothing more. They just aim to make a Half Life re-imagination that Valve would have done if they had Source. And having a physics based engine just gives you additional ways to recreate something in a new way, like new puzzles and such instead of sticking to a 1:1 adaptation. You completely missed my point. They make Black Mesa the way Valve would have done if they had today's technology back then. Idk how you come to Quake but the best comparison to make is with Half Life 2, since Black Mesa additionally aims towards the Half Life 2 gameplay style since it started out as a Half Life 2 mod. And what do you mean by "not pursuing original work". The basics and story are the same as in Half Life but everything what you see in Black Mesa, from gun models, animations, props, to textures, to level design, to voice acting, to music is original. They took weapons like the Gauss Cannon as the base, yes but the model itself with its textures is completely original work by themselves, just to give you an example.
My biggest gripe with Black Mesa is the changed weapon introductions (getting the pistol later and getting the .357 instead of the shotgun)
that's what keeps it fresh. as a trade off, magnum bodyshots are much weaker now
I might be the minority in this, but I liked that they changed where you got the Crowbar. Made it a bit more tense, also teaches you the NPC buddy mechanics.

That part is so slow because it takes forever for him to kill all the zombies, it's almost faster to just throw wastebaskets at them.
you're supposed to be helping out by burning them with all the flares lying around
