Black Mesa V6 - 'Not sure about the shotgun'-edition

is there an ETA for the classic weapon pack or is it a "it'll be done when it's done" sort of thing?
We have a couple things to clean up, which probably puts us at the half way point.

-snip-
It's BEAUTIFUL!
Half way? Aw jeez see ya'll in another 3 years. ;_; Kiddin' of course, that tau cannon is GORGEOUS.
I think the tau cannon should be turned a bit to the right, just doesn't look right when the barrel is not pointing at the center of the screen.

Apparently it's like that by default, as are most of the vanilla weapons

The angle is skewed slightly to account for the original weapon scales and the high fov needed for it
Problem is straightening it makes the weapon almost look 2D and very artificial
honestly you guys should be paid for that pack. maybe team up with the devs to make it a dlc or something.

Eh, I think adding DLC kind of goes against what the crowbar collective stands for. If these guys have a patreon or something I'd be glad to donate though.

it's the viewmodel sway when you turn right really fast

oh, dumb me.
Is that pizza ARG resolved or not?
Do we have to wait for full release to see the mystery unsolved?
if your arg isn't solved after 5 years then maybe it wasn't a very good arg
I mean let's be real did any of us expect a literally pizza-delivered ARG to lead to any revolutionary conclusions
I thought it was just an in-joke gimmick to loosely play on cake/portal nonsense

Looks like a screenshot from the mod version or an earlier version of the retail version.
Honestly I'd say BM's biggest hangup, aside from some difficulty balancing issues (not THAT big of a deal though) is that the weapons just...aren't particularly fun to use, due to a combination of the animations and super weak sound effects. The SFX issue baffles me the most, because the sound design throughout the rest of the game is superb. All the ambience in Blast Pit is just masterful for instance.

the first shotgun did not look like this. but yeah it could be from an early run.

No that is the mod version shotgun model.

Honestly the weapon particles are a little weak as well. The muzzleflashes are bright yellow and it gives them a cartoonish appearance. I'm hoping a particle pack or something will be released on the workshop after xen comes out that'll replace them with particles that are more punchy and realistic. Frankly I'm not sure why they felt the need to update them, the particles from the mod version looked fine. The sounds were really good too for that matter (well the syncing was a little off), the mp5 in particular had a really metallic sound to it.
I never got why houndeyes would charge their sonic attack faster, it feels like the charging sound they make just gets cut halfway in
That's a good way to put it; there's no room for the player to think. They took out the Think part of Run, Think, Shoot, Live. I've tweaked my own skill.cfg to make everything just a bit more forgiving. It might not be as challenging but I'm having a lot more fun with it, which I think is more important. As far as game design goes I think it's always better to er on the side of elements being in the player's favor than the other way around.
As you can probably guess, I'm not the biggest Dark Souls fan :P
I don't think that there's one reason like sounds being weak... Personally, for me they dont feel fun to use because enemies don't leave you room to breathe.
Every single enemy type has been tightened:
Vorts charge their zap faster...
Houndeyes charge their blow faster...
Bullsquids shoot faster projectiles and with shorter delay...
Marines can run and shoot and they shake your view...
and so on.
As a result, the methodical edge of half-life 1 shooting where you had time to aim your gun more carefully is gone, so you're left with something more panicy and less satisfying.
Shooting feels a lot like half life 2, but in HL 2 enemy and level design was probably better suited for this kind of shooting. I'm not sure why it's so bad in BMS, but I'm sure there are multiple factors at work. Like, I also don't like how much more cluttered the visuals are. In HL1, there's a nice clarity to everything due to simplicity of visuals, which probably makes shooting more fun as well. In BMS, everything was enlarged and clattered with props, so maybe that contributes to this overarching problem as well.
You're playing on hard.

I'm pretty sure it's because you're playing on hard.

It's a troubling time for me. Do I start my replaythrough of black mesa soon, in order to get the full black mesa experience and and be ready to play Xen as soon as it hits? Or do I wait to make sure it's not delayed, but risk having to cram an entire black mesa playthrough in a few days to see the new Xen content? It's a very dire decision.

Have they actually done any skill.cfg changes in the last year, since last time I played Gordon could survive a tank shot to the face, multiple times. But that .50 killed me in seconds. On hard.
That's just bad balance.

I'm holding off getting the purple hat achievement for Xen. Once it comes out, I will play through the whole game carrying it. [sp]Hopefully they won't require you to carry the hat through Xen itself.[/sp]
