Black Mesa V6 - 'Not sure about the shotgun'-edition

Well, it recognizes crowbar as a weapon, which is arguably even more weird
I'm actually wondering on how/why the suit recognized snarks and the bee-shooter as weapons. There's even lines for fvox, "unidentified bio-weapon".
Black Mesa was experimenting on Xen creatures before the events of HL1, odds are the scientists there already figured out the hivehand/snarks/etc. were weapons.
Plus it's a video game.
For me this is exactly the best thing, I love hard enemies.
I love a challenge, but there's a big diffrence between "Hard, but fair" and the Black Mesa HECU Soldiers.
Their MP5 are WAY too accurate and they hold down the trigger until they need to reload or you move out of the way, making them a constant stream of damage, Unlike the HECU from HL1 or even the Combine from HL2. In both games they fire in bursts of 3 and their weapons aren't as accurate as the player's, making them more fair, and really, more fun to fight against.
They're not the hardest enemies I had to fight in a video game. Especially since they've been toned down since the 2012 release, but I still think they need work.
EDIT:bad grammar oop
HL grunts make you move, BMS grunts make you seek cover.
both die just as fast if your gunplay is good.
BM grunts were stupid in the mod version but they're perfect now. we still got like 8 ways to one-shot them.
it's probably your fault if you give them enough time to focus and flank you.
HL1 had the benefit of every HECU squad having some scripting specific to the area they're placed in.
BMS Grunts have to mostly rely on the natural combine AI which has a ton of flaws at navigating certain spaces

BMS Grunts straight up aren't fun to fight, some of it is AI, some of it is 'balance', some of it is technical jank from the way CC redid weapons in retail.
The combat loop isn't as satisfying as it needs to be, play some Halo then come back and be amazed at how dull fighting against HGrunts are.
You basically telling me to "git gud"
the bm grunts aren't hard to fight at all. they're just bland.

Yeah, combine A.I that just rush you with disregard for their own lives. This + instant shooting and deadly accuracy makes them unfun to play against.
In HL1, grunts have look at you and do an animation before shooting you, and do so in bursts. (Though I think grunts sometimes shoot while standing?)
This allows you to survive even with low hp which in Black Mesa will result in an instant-death as soon as you let go of that crouch button.
Just going to leave this here for you guys to enjoy.

I thought it was funny...
And if a grunt's hiding around a corner or an ambush occurs, like the We've Got Hostiles vent rappel ambush, you're either going to take an obscene amount of damage or be outright killed in no time flat. It's not quite Wolfenstein: The New Colossus levels of bullshit on that game's harder difficulties, but it's not far off.
I came here to tell you, me and another friend are working hard on a V2 version of HECU grunts.
They will probably now have the correct gibs and support for mods that mess with character_manifest like enhanced creation mod and joint operations. However, the textured models have remained more faithful to the old-school style.
With standard HL1 color pattern (white helmet splitter camo) and OP4 (Green default camouflage helmet)

They're weapons. Gordon will think twice before trying to go through the wrong airlock when he knows Barney can bodyslam him in half

I agree, but this is the most close thing to the classic style
Looks uncomfortable to sit down in.

I'd never think of something that's designed to stop bullets to look comfortable.

where's barney's id? XD jk good job
The vest texture needs a little tone down in contrast
Had to replay black mesa after witnessing the comedic disaster that is Hunt down the freeman so i can remember what a professionally developed 3rd party source game looks like
remake or not
remake or not
What do you mean?
What do you mean?
Black Mesa is more like a "Re-imagining" of Half Life, than an actual remake, it doesn't mean anything about the actual quality of it though, its just a sort of technicality some people have.
Nice topic! :)

Well this thread's quiet

I found the sources for the half-life 1 sound effects (most of them) in hd, pretty sure we're gonna use them
[sp]it'll be done when it's done[/sp]
Wow, where were they hiding? That's huge.
You got monster sounds too?
Just foley for the most part, though listening to some of the enemies I wouldn't be surprised if they're pitch shifted animal b roll
Can I get a link to those sounds, for moding purposes of course!

That chunky chrome crowbar looks pretty funny when remade in higher definition
So what is there left to do? Wait until Xen?
