I don't know if I'd describe MyM as neato
That's the joke. Nobody wants anything to be "neato" ever again, lest it turn out half baked and still unfinished nearly 500 days later.
Wasn't there also cool beans
The fact that ToTH medals haven't been released yet makes me think they'll get shipped with the update
Valve folks dont usually sit on ready content that long, but by thinking objectively: If anyone of us would work at valve, seeing halloween event around the corner after a month. Would you launch campaign 3 that is planned to last as long as gun mettle or tough break, at this time now, after all this delay or would you delay that over the halloween more closer to the end of the year? I would delay. Poll time, even if you consider these dumb. Winner medal = Long waited update launches before halloween Lightning = I'm wrong and you are correct
Its obvious we get a shitty scream fortress and pyro update delayed again.
Halloween is just filler at this point. And considering overlapping events have already happened before, I honestly feel that isn't a problem in their eyes.
We know October 10th is TF2s 10th anniversary, they know it's TF2s 10th anniversary, they have to know that at this point we're expecting the update on that day, so it boggles my mind why they can't just say straight out "Hey, we're planning on releasing this long anticipated update on this day". All they would have to do to hold us over at this point is show us a teaser image of some sort, but instead, they just let the community at large just sit around with our thumbs up our asses with nothing to look forward to, nothing to really speculate, and nothing to hype up the update.
Halloween is just filler at this point. And considering overlapping events have already happened before, I honestly feel that isn't a problem in their eyes.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe a campaign event has ever overlapped a standard event.
You guys think that maybe they didn't start working on the update till they posted the "balance changes" blog post? That would make the most sense.
You guys think that maybe they didn't start working on the update till they posted the "balance changes" blog post? That would make the most sense.
If that's the case... see you next summer!
You guys think that maybe they didn't start working on the update till they posted the "balance changes" blog post? That would make the most sense.
I think they have been working on it and just bit off more than they could chew.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe a campaign event has ever overlapped a standard event.
We had Invasion merge with Halloween but if you want to get really technical about it Invasion wasn't a Campaign.
You guys think that maybe they didn't start working on the update till they posted the "balance changes" blog post? That would make the most sense.
So they were sitting on their ass for months not doing anything?
Maybe the team was needed for other things not TF2 during that time, don't devs just kinda work on whatever they feel like at Valve?
I suspect we will probably just get a case and some maps, and probably not a whole campaign, which is fine at this point.
I'm thinking it's either 10/10 or not at all.
I'm thinking it's either 10/10 or not at all.
This is also many people's opinion about how much they think they'll like the update.
What if there isnt actually a tf2 team
With the Video Game Voice Actors strike finally over maybe we could see some new voice lines for the game in the future. The new office building Valve owns may contain a recording studio for the company/teams to use. I would love to see new Medic and Heavy domination lines (now class-specific) or more interaction between the characters similar to Demoman/Soldier WAR! Update, but with Heavy/Pyro instead. OR, if we are really optimistic: a Comunity Contest in which we can submit our own lines of dialogue. You get a cosmetic as a reward!
The old office had a recording studio as well.
What if there isnt actually a tf2 team
Not having a dev team is the same as having one that does 500 days of nothing. We wouldn't be able to tell.
it boggles my mind why they can't just say straight out "Hey, we're planning on releasing this long anticipated update on this day".
probably because they're not fucking planning to release the update on the anniversary
At this point I'm thinking their statement of "lots of time before halloween" no longer holds true. I really hope we get a blog post or something soon. Our last bet is 10/10. Next week could also be viable but they may as well wait a week later for the anniversary.
Would you launch campaign 3 that is planned to last as long as gun mettle or tough break, at this time now, after all this delay or would you delay that over the halloween more closer to the end of the year? I would delay.
None of us would be able to live in a world where the TF Team was incompetent enough to release a half-baked community Scream Fortress event as the first major update of the year.
Not having a dev team is the same as having one that does 500 days of nothing. We wouldn't be able to tell.
450 Days of them working on content we haven't seen yet doesn't mean they haven't done anything. I'm disappointed too with the lack of an update this long, but I don't think comments implying the TF2 team are lazy make for good discussion, after having seen that Twitter thread about transparency in the Game Dev industry that was linked here. I'm not gonna act all high and mighty as I've probably made similar jokes and comments in the past - especially if you count the potted plant jokes, of which I've made plenty - but maybe we can self reflect as fans, considering that we also know Facepunch is a common forum for the TF2 team to lurk on for feedback as mentioned several times before. Call it "bad business sense" if you want, but I feel implying that they are personally lazy probably isn't helping in regards to their lack of communication (again, going back to the Twitter thread comments). On topic: Not that I think they are waiting for the 10th anniversary, but October 10th does happen to fall on a Tuesday, so I don't suppose it's completely impossible. I'd certainly like to see it after this massively long wait. :frown:
Maybe their team has some sort of social anxiety disorder? I can't really come up with any other reason for this bloody radio silence.
valve's motto is that the "plesant surprise effect" is worth the silence that's presumably one of the reasons tf2beta was shut down
If I remember correctly: A user here (or maybe the SPUF/SPUD) around 2013 said the TF2 Team didn't gave information about the stuff they work on due to the inability to fulfill those promises or scrapping ideas when something doesn't work as they expected intended. Of course that was 4 years ago (or even more, blame my bad memory) and the Team needs to adapt to the new context we currently experience.
I'd rather they fucking tell us what they want to do and then not deliver and explain why instead of telling us literally nothing at all
They probably want to say anything but "Guys we're still working really hard, please understand" would probably piss everyone off even more.
