Server-synced Halloween gifts were complete horseshit and I cannot possibly comprehend how you can possibly interpret their removal as punishment for being good at the game.
I remember my friend made a script that would teleport you to all the gift spawns and leaving it running overnight. Oh man next day's harvest was always great.
Anyone else kinda worried that if valve doesn't release a major update by the 10th, it will most likely be the end of tf2 for most people as people are going to start leaving tf2 and the community?
Weren't the saxxy winners lying about their playtest?
From what I've gathered, that was all caused by someone outside the team. They sent some shots of some discord messages of a few members joking about the play session, but they were stripped of context to be misleading. We didn't hear about that until months later.
One member was asked about it directly, but only denied it. Another member jokingly described the play session as thundery and mountainy. No other members said they were asked about the play session, though some were asked different questions.
I would be worried if we don't get the update before 2018.

Why? Valve never gave us an official date for update, I don't see why get mad.
I'd think of it less as mad, and more as feeling the game is getting a little stale, what with no change since MyM and community servers doing pretty badly.
There's no reason any particular date would be some magical turning point where a bunch of people quit and never come back. The drought has caused some to stop playing and that number may increase as time goes on, but most will come back to see what the update brings.
Why 10th?
Some people are believing its on the 10th because it would be TF2's anniversary from what I've heard.
The only problem that I can see with the 10th being the update, or at least the start of it, is that it will competing with Overwatch's Halloween event for players/articles (according to the leaked promo anyway)
[t]http://images.mein-mmo.de/magazin/medien/2017/10/Overwatch-Halloween-2017-Leak-pic.jpg[/t]
Also, I kind of hope they at least try and branch this update into some new-ish Halloween related stuff if it is the 10th(somehow), considering we've lost 2 halloween events to these updates.
I would be worried if we don't get the update before 2018.
They must update game before halloween or throw pyro update with halloween. Why?
- They announced new crate drop system.
And small changes in game like bug fix etc can broke something in pyro update and they will spend next year to fix problems.
This game is like domino one small bug will destroy everything!

Why would they be competing?
TF2 players will still be playing TF2 and OW players will still be playing OW. Some players will play both.
I don't think in any scenario will someone up and leave a game to play the other unless OWs or TF2s sucks hard.
(Which no offense to OW players) will most likely be a rehash of the junkenstein gamemode a few new skins and call it a day.
Plus as I see with every kind of Halloween event, players will switch to various games to see what has changed and what is new. It's nothing out of the ordinary.

But the games don't compete, that's comparing apples to oranges.
But the games don't compete, that's comparing apples to oranges.
Not all people are smart enough to see they're not competing.
People who want to play Overwatch already have it, and I personally know many players are growing fatigued with the game as a long-term experience. Overwatch's release made no major impact on TF2's overall playerbase whatsoever (you can check the steamdb charts to verify this), though pros and content creators either diversified or jumped ship to Overwatch back then. Even some of the former have since started to return to TF2.
Overwatch having a seasonal event should have no bearing whatsoever on TF2, especially not if this update is as big as it's said to be. Overwatch's seasonal events are typically a new pack of skins and a minigame, and the reported scale of the Pyro Update is likely to draw the attention of new players and veterans alike.
TF2 also benefits from being a free game. If it were priced like Overwatch, then an OW update may actually be bad news, because the likeliness of bringing in a batch of new players would plummet significantly if they were both at the same asking price. (This is one of the reasons why Battleborn insta-died: since it was also being billed as a Premium product versus a game with much more favorable critical reception and public attention, it was DOA.)
As it is now, the only cost to try out TF2 for someone who already owns Overwatch is a simple time investment. I don't think that's a high enough wall to stop new people from flowing in (as they do every major update) or to prevent older players from checking back in on TF2 and seeing what's going on.
Poll: would you rather wait a year for source 2, or get an update on the 10th? Rate agree for source 2 or optimistic for 10th.

Crazy theory : They're both releasing on the same day (Oct. 10th) because it's a crossover update. TF2 characters will be playable in OW for a short time, amd vise-versa
Why? Valve never gave us an official date for update, I don't see why get mad.
I feel people have a right to be mad, the update was clearly planned for summer as we didn't get a "Smissmas 2016" for summer, but they either 1. had development issues or 2. wanted to add even more.

I don't think Blizzard will acknowledge Valve after that Dota dispute years ago anything promo/crossovers related are off the table for sure.
In an alternative universe where Blizzard had their games on Steam, sure.
So, my 3DS' Control Stick arrived!

TF2 team, if you are lurking, please release the update next week - do it not for us, but for Snowshoe. :frown:

October 10th, we've been waiting for the update for so long, but once we get it and fix any potential bugs I'd wait another 1.5 years for source 2
lmao nothing is gonna happen on the 10th

Yes, uh, pardon me, but we're getting a beachball AND confetti in-game, how is that nothing ????

I'm pretty sure in past years they only gave out party hats and did that on TFC/TF's birthday as a whole, never for TF2's.
