The weapon in question was a robotic arm (A scout robot arm, to be specific). Valve ran with the idea which eventually led to the mini sentry. But the entire point of that video was to make the community speculate and they would use that to decide on what would actually come. The community did not implant the idea of said arm being a mini sentry. So I don't know what your point is, if there is one at all.
You're off by a bit too. The PDQ was tested in a closed beta, this much was known back in the day. For those who do not know or remember, the PDQ had a ridiculous build-boost rate attached to it but otherwise the gun would be unable to be upgraded past level 1. This was the tool meant for what was the then-Ninjaneer. The only glaring issue with this is that friendly Engineers could not tell the difference between a normal sentry and a PDQ sentry without thinking about it. This eventually was remedied by the checkerboard pattern and strobe light which is attached to the mini-sentry. I can all but guarantee that what is now the Southern Hospitality was going to be the PDQ. However, when the TF team saw people latching onto the robot Scout's arm blueprint and mistook it for an Engineer robotic augment, they decided to just run with it because it does sound pretty damn cool. Only problem is that it left the SH with nothing unique to itself. Hell, even the fire vulnerability on it would've made sense as a PDQ downside had they given it the strengths that the Gunslinger had such as 25 bonus hp since you're more likely to have a run-in with a Pyro if you're trying to Ninjaneer rather than play passively. It's not that the arm and mini-sentry were related, more that they were a collective victim of circumstance. Hell the video wasn't even to encourage speculations, just to get people excited for what's to come. This was back in a time where the only direct community contributions were maps, so sway was limited to being excited or complaining about whichever class killed them last. If you want to get mad about the combat sentry for no discernible reason, the Autogun from GG2 had the exact same stats (metal cost, health, damage, build time, etc) and attributes (no upgrade, no repair, owner has more health, etc) predating the Engineer Update by almost 2 full years.
1:19
TF2 COMMUNITY: "Hey maybe we still have t-" *9/6 theory dies* VALVE GAMES GRAVEYARD: "Time, Team Fortress? Is it really that time again? It seems as if you had just gotten here" On an unrelated note, I am sad. Not mad, or angry. Just sad. I am sad that Team Fortress has become what it is now. It definitely isn't dead, but it isn't alive either. We all played a part in this, no specific person is to blame. That "Valve Touch" has withered out, and we hyped a rumor into the ground. A RUMOR. Some little piece of unconfirmed info. I understand that we've all been looking for something to latch onto, some little glimmer of hope, but you guys have to know by this point to take everything with a grain of salt. Valve isn't innocent either. Valve isn't even a shadow of its former self. Valve today is exactly like the companies Valve used to stomp on years ago. Valve has proven itself to be untrustworthy time and time again, and we take it every time. I think the only way to finish this post would be to quote Gordon Freeman: "I no longer know or recognize most members of the research team, though I believe the spirit of rebellion still persists. I expect you know better than I the appropriate course of action, and I leave you to it. Expect no further correspondence from me regarding these matters; this is my final episode. Yours in infinite finality, Gordon Freeman, Ph.D."
The point is that you're all morons. Get a fucking life and enjoy the game or go play something else. Like seriusly, half if not most the thread is shitposting babies demanding shit like the tf team owed you. Come on people. You're better than this.
Who would have guessed people talk about the state of tf2 in a tf2 thread
I'll say it again, this is what happens when you underestimate valve's ability to delay. Now on to the real major update speculation: Why was there a jungle drawing on valve's board with today's date next to it if literally nothing jungle-related happened?
I heard that it could just be the date of a meeting about the update that happened within valve, instead of the launch date. After all, it was in a meeting room.
I heard that it could just be the date of a meeting about the update that happened within valve, instead of the launch date. After all, it was in a meeting room.
You know thats a pretty good idea. i didnt even think of that
I heard that it could just be the date of a meeting about the update that happened within valve, instead of the launch date. After all, it was in a meeting room.
This seems to be the most viable theory in my opinion. They might have written it down as a reminder, because we all know how Valve is when it comes to remembering things.
What even would that meeting be about? "Let's pick what single texture to make this week?"
What even would that meeting be about? "Let's pick what single texture to make this week?"
A lot of things. We don't even know what they've finished already. They might be discussing maps, cosmetics, bug fixes etc.
A date for an organized meeting makes more sense to me. Honestly I am under the impression now even the TF2 team isn't quite sure when the update will be done either, they must have a lot still left to do.
and there's me trying not to hate Valve for all this delays: Imagine all the news on shitty gaming media "TF2 gets its biggest update ever on its 10th anniversary" different question comes to mind, if they're delaying the update by this insane amount, then why the hell did they scrap the idea of releasing Jungle textures before the update?, there's no way that's not ready yet
In that case, that's the same bull we've been hearing since Halloween 2016: valve's working on it. How is this any different than what we were told 400 days ago?
Maybe they were trying to remind themselves what the tf2 update was about.
A lot of things. We don't even know what they've finished already. They might be discussing maps, cosmetics, bug fixes etc.
I'm being facetious, but come on, nearly 450 days? Are they recoding the entire game? (it needs it) If this is the wait for every single class update past this point, they're joking themselves. They skipped regular events for this. They haven't mentioned many other unfinished projects for years. This is so unbelievably unprofessional that it's surprising that the community hasn't fucking imploded.
How many more hours till it's no longer 9/6?
How could we have been so naive as to fall victim to the absolute worst quadrant of the gamer matrix [t]https://i.imgur.com/Up3ifNw.png[/t]
How many more hours till it's no longer 9/6?
Not for another 4 hours.
How many more hours till it's no longer 9/6?
4 hours Bellevue time.
But we're well past any feasible blog post time, most of valve is probably at home by now
But we're well past any feasible blog post time, most of valve is probably at home by now
We've gotten an update past midnight before. Don't hold your breath but also don't rule anything out.
What could possibly cause yet another delay?!?!? They have had so much time....
-snip-
What could possibly cause yet another delay?!?!? They have had so much time....
If it is coming out tonight/early tomorrow I imagine they're doing a lot of last minute stuff to make sure we don't get another meet your match situation. I'm kinda 50/50 on it coming out tonight, seems a bit weird not to release it on a weekend.
-nvm-
 will be uploading the vid soon. it's 25 minutes of me hating life
Jill just went offline on Steam. If it's happening it's happening within the next 10 minutes I'd say.
valve has never released anything at 8:00 PM
 will be uploading the vid soon. it's 25 minutes of me hating life
On the bright side, you did more than what a moderator could do. GJ man. You did us proud
Get a good night's rest, people. The update is not happening tonight.
 will be uploading the vid soon. it's 25 minutes of me hating life
I hope you enjoyed your dinner
