This blogpost is honestly so relieving, even though we learned almost nothing. see what even a little bit of communication does, valve?
I just can't wait to see how underwhelming this "mammoth" will be, because development time outweighs it in any case, unless they went for some mad thing like source 2 or rewriting game from scratch - both of which i highly doubt
I am expecting a major overhaul to casual mode or the eradication of it in favor of something new. They're really not too proud of how MyM ended up.
I agree with Punchy and some others here - while a blog post mentioning the imminent new update on the 10th anniversary of the game is better than nothing, I suppose, it felt so rushed, unimaginative and clearly posted at the last second for damage mitigation purposes. They must have been checking out the subreddit, SCUD, or this place and realized (probably only just yesterday) that a complete silence on the 10th anniversary combined with 14+ months without a truly major update would really not go over well. Perhaps they're so busy working on this mammoth of an update that they don't have time for ARGs, secret links or teasers to wet our appetites, but the 'old' Valve or the old TF2 Team, like Punchy said, would have at least known to throw us a bone or two at this stage. Maybe it's just the lack of writers on Valve's payroll atm (don't know who was responsible for the funny blogposts of the past), but it's clear that the current TF2 Team doesn't have the witty, goofy and ultimately smart and effective approach at keeping the playerbase engaged at least somewhat through teasers, ARGs, blogposts that aren't totally vague and sparse...
i miss the tobor
I literally just had some kind of Vietnam flashback reading that again. It's just a shot away, it's just a shot awaaaay ROMEO IN THE TREELINE, ROMEO IN THE TREELINE!! VASQUEZ, POP UBER, POP UBER, OR THEY'LL HIT US TOO!!!
It's sad to see how Valve has turned out today. Lone employees can only look back and say "We used to be that good" in retrospective interviews, and as the majority of workers cannot be arsed to help in projects like TF2, all they feel like doing to satisfy this community is post a reddit image into the blog and write a short post. If the old team of TF2 back from about 5 years ago were tasked with this anniversary, I don't doubt the current product would look like hot smokin' garbage in comparison. I wonder what will be the future of Valve. Will they reform someday, or will they remain as this vague and boring until the end? Is there an end to Valve, with Steam and other past innovations automatically making them money? While philosophers can ponder with this question, I'm slightly glad they officially announced Team Fortress Primal.
So as a bit of a story of what I had happen to me on a Valve Casual server just now: I decide "I want to play CTF" so I click the CTF option, and uncheck Turbine because I don't feel like dealing with 100% chance of hackers tonight and I only ever run into them on Turbine. I fully expect 2fort, maybe Doublecross if I'm lucky, but I never get to play Landfall because it seems so rare to find compared to Turbine or 2fort. So with those 3 maps, I wait a few minutes, glitchy white box appears in the center of my screen and the loading menu starts. "Oh boy I can't wait to see what shitshow 2fort server I get matched into!"... and it's Landfall! Enemy team has 2 caps on us vs. our 1 cap on them when I get in, so I'm already at a disadvantage. It seems to have been going for a while, too. Always us pushing in and then getting mowed down by Sentries, Demoknights, or a Heavy + Medic combo; pretty much perfectly even as we can't push in and they can't push out barring a few loose Scouts. Overall, the teams seemed almost perfectly equal in overall skill, so neither team was stomping the other. I decide to go Soldier, then after a while Heavy to defend and keep any stray enemies from getting by as people keep destroying the Sentry protecting our intel. After a while it seemed under control so I went back to Soldier. One guy I killed apparently didn't like that I was wearing Unusuals at all:
*DEAD* (removed name) : anyone who has a credit card, rise your hand!
A few other people were kind of getting mad at me, one guy saying "rage heavy" when I killed him after I switched to Heavy. Same guy kept calling me bad and saying I should ragequit - even after I dominated him. I dunno if he was serious but it was still kind of funny. We tried several unsuccessful ubers and failed to take out whoever was trying to defend (see: everyone). At one point our Medic tries a Quick-Fix uber thinking we can charge through with near-invincibility and grab the intel but a Heavy mowed me down with random crits. He switches back to stock Medigun and tells me he wants me to rush in and grab the intel; I'm not really someone that performs well under an uber. I hear their Brass Beast Heavy and Medic combo on the other side of this wall, and they're really the only thing keeping me from being able to cap; their Medic always has a Kritz and they seem to use it whenever they have it. Their Kritz doesn't scare me as my Medic is about to uber me, but the Brass Beast will eat my rockets up if I try to attack the Heavy. I figure the next best thing would be to walk at them with my shovel out and hope I get a few random crits from it. The best thing possible happens; they run to spawn. I take out the Sentry with whatever is left of the uber, our Medic almost immediately dies because there's like 6 people waiting for us to stop being shiny. I rocket jumped to the intel, grab it, and continue horribly rocket jumping back to spawn as there's 2 Scouts and a Soldier chasing me along with a critboosted Brass Beast Heavy trying to shoot at me from long-range. I didn't have Gunboats equipped either so I had to do a zigzag around the map to grab any health I could while people are chasing me down. Eventually I make it to spawn and cap. One of the guys that chased me was killed in victory time, saying this upon the round ending:
*DEAD* (removed name 2): Can't believe I came back to this shit game
I don't get to play a lot of "good" rounds these days, but holy shit this was one of the most fun matches I think I've had without friends in eons, and certainly since the introduction of Casual mode.
happy 10th anniversary everyone
It feels like the pyro is crying because there is no pyro update today than just a teaser. Nice video still
but the Brass Beast will eat my rockets up
uh, what?
Think they're referring to the damage resistance there but idk
You misunderstand, most people currently feel nothing, not clinical depression.
Most people? Don't kid yourself - that Blog Post has made the majority of Lurkers optimistic for next week - which is understandable.
I'm more expecting this month rather than next week. But anytime from now till the end of October would be perfect.
So I saw something related to the Jungle/Pyro/Whatever update [sp]There are animation for a hola_walk_left/right in SFM[/sp]
So I saw something related to the Jungle/Pyro/Whatever update [sp]There are animation for a hola_walk_left/right in SFM[/sp]
The last time I heard of this it was quickly debunked for being a jape/error on the OP's part and that those arent offical.
Well, the 10th went by as I expected, including the lack of a "Halloween is coming make stuff" post. If it comes out this month as some think it will, it may replace Scream Fortress, which makes me feel a bad for all the contributors currently working on Halloween items.

(that is if the update comes out this month)

Also when something *does* actually happen, we get hundreds of lurkers, 71 zings means nothing.
I've been thinking they might lump halloween and the update together but, I'm not too sure. (that is if the update comes out this month)
I hope they don't for the sake of contributors who busted their asses to "hurry up" and finish all the jungle themed items. Imagine half that effort scrapped to do some sort of Halloween merge in.
saying things like "imminent" and "but not this week" basically means valve is trying to say next week but doesn't want to straight out say "next week" just in case something goes terribly wrong and delays the update, right?
I wonder if they'll update to Source 2.
I'm sure if it were next week they would've said so
I don't think so. Not only because "lelValve" but for practical reasons as well. Imagine if the straight up told us, "Yup, next week is the week boys and girls, open up time in your busy schedules!" and then game breaking bug, exploit, map not working, demons invade earth, servers break down, map exploit is discovered, etc. If they can't patch it up in time and ship with it, the community will be pissed. If they don't ship the update until the manage to patch it up, the community will also be pissed. It's a no-win zone for them if they give such a clear date for something that obviously is not ready and then something bad happens.

Someone else in a thread said it pretty well - from what I understood it, they are eyeing up next week but as always dont want to commit to it - in case that Jill suddenly trips over a computer cable and domino-effects the office or something like that. Here is something to discuss in the meantime - in the scenario that itll release before Halloween: How the fuck are they going to manage that? Also don't forget about the possibility of non-stock weapon skins.
in case that Jill suddenly trips over a computer cable and domino-effects the office or something like that..
Jill actually the team's cat, confirmed
Man, how fantastic would it be if they announce the Jungle/Pyro update and then, during the usual 2/3/... days tease before the actual release Scream Fortress begins all of a sudden, interrupting the release of the update with a new page added in the teaser (Day x: "You thought you'd have your update this easily? Fool! It is me, Merasmus! *Insert spooky things here*" or something like that) and, after (or during) the usual Scream Fortress season, the update is released. This could be a really great way to reconcile SF with the long awaited pyro update. But I would like the update even if released next week, Valve, don't worry.
Here is something to discuss in the meantime - in the scenario that itll release before Halloween: How the fuck are they going to manage that?
If it drops before Halloween and is as big as they are implying (including the multi month length campaign 3) it may just completely replace both the Halloween and Smissmas events. A blockbuster sized update to end the year.
After all this time they better add banana bay.
Hopefully a slightly more balanced one, waiting two hours to end a match can get old.
Most people? Don't kid yourself - that Blog Post has made the majority of Lurkers optimistic for next week - which is understandable.
They want your item. They don't give a shit about you or your ideas.
They want your item. They don't give a shit about you or your ideas.
thats not the point, I know myself that I have done a fucking raffle - what does this have to do with what I said My point is that people put their bet on next week and not on smissmas or whatever
thats not the point, I know myself that I have done a fucking raffle - what does this have to do with what I said My point is that people put their bet on next week and not on smissmas or whatever
Keep in mind that many instinctively vote for what they hope for. I find it more likely for it to be lateOctober with a communityContributed Halloween than next week. BUT I WANT NEXT WEEK. AND IT MAKES SOME SENSE. SO I VOTE NEXT WEEK. valveplease
An interesting night of nothing happening.
feels good that for once the smug naysayers are proven wrong lol :buckteeth:
