I wonder how summer 2018 will look like.
I wonder how summer 2018 will look like.
Sun in the sky during the day, moon in the sky during the night, 200 degrees outside.
Oh and the pyro update finally coming out.
feels good that for once the smug naysayers are proven wrong lol :buckteeth:
But nothing did happen. They said a thing, yeah, but nothing came out of it except "wait longer please"
Not even a hint at what's to come, how far they are along, what they're finishing up or anything. Just more vague answers.

and the overly optimistic have been proven wrong for months over months "lol"

I can understand pessimism and frustration, but now you're crossing the line to just being a cunt for no reason.

He's not wrong tho
He's not wrong tho
It's totally possible to be correct while also being a prick about it
Am I the only one here who plays TF2, has fun and doesn't mind the update getting delayed?

Nope. I'm with you.

Not even answers, just "SOON".
As if soon wasn't fucking implied everyday you deal with valve.
No talk about weapon balance, maps, new assets, optimization, fixes. NOTHING.
Just "SOON" and holy fuck it's been "soon" for quite a while now.
This blog post was a non-event.
Oh, and fuck the people who defend this unacceptable nonsense.
I wish “soon” never existed as a word :glare:
lol, you don't mind an update getting delayed when it never even had a launch date to begin with
ever since summer folks have been calling week after week, constantly moving the goalposts further away into the horizon
we went from summer to 9/6 to 10/10 to next week and there already is someone patting themselves on the back for having the 'naysayers get their comeuppance', based on a blog post
Am I the only one here who plays TF2, has fun and doesn't mind the update getting delayed?
Yeah. I mean I'm excited for the update when it comes. There are things I'd really like to see improved, but it's not like there's any glaring issues making the game unplayable. I'm no longer beholden to the 2 populated community servers in my region, their tiresome attitudes or their deplorable taste in maps. Jump in casual matchmaking and mix it up on maps you like.
Team Fortress 2 is fun to play.
If it is actually that soon as most of us understood, they could've said straight that it is coming exactly next week in the blogpost, because those "expectations" or their "plans" now just feel like a fat, evil joke.
If it is actually that soon as most of us understood, they could've said straight that it is coming exactly next week in the blogpost, because those "expectations" or their "plans" now just feel like a fat, evil joke.
That soon implies next week, but it might as well be the week after. Or withing the month if we stretch it.
As I stated above, this is blanket speech of "it's almost ready but just in case something really bad pops up we'll give a general statement implying next week yet not being explicit about it".
Would a "NEXT WEEK IS THE WEEK BOYS" be better and in the hell-on-earth possibility a tweet in the form of "sorry guys, extra bad thing happened, update delayed" be better? Maybe.
There would be much more backlash if this happened compared to soon being in two weeks when it was supposed to be in one but we didn't know.
It's near impossible to get an accurate deadline a lot of the time in software dev, so I don't blame them for giving us what's probably the most they know about how long it'll take instead of fudging a probably inaccurate date for appeasement ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Like I really, really hope that the wait was actually worth it. Like, after this time, that's like a page 1 rewrite of the backend of the fucking game
I seriously would take actual release dates with them saying they have to delay it even 3 times in a row if they had good reasons over absolute silence.
Since this Update has taken so long to make, I hope there is some new MVM Maps/ Missions included with it
I'm really glad it's coming.
Really glad.
But something inside me just keeps saiyng, is it too late to revitalize the community?

Judging what happens to other gaming communities when that kind of thing happens, a lot of people aren't so forgiving, unfortunately.

Don't get your hopes up. This is almost Source2Port work required and a Source2Port is pretty unlikely.
As we know from UncleDane, Jill has stated that "It would be nice but the amount of work that would take, would require much more manpower than the TFTeam currently possesses, by far.
That video was uploaded 9 months ago, so it's not impossible. If the Source2Team (and the CS:GO team, since TF2 and CS:GO have enough overlapping code to support co-development) SIGNIFICANTLY helped and pitched in the porting process, it would most likely be feasible.
Back to it being a complete rewrite, as I stated above it would almost be a Source2Port amount of work but here's the problem. Other employees would assist in a Source2Port. No sane person would willingly assist in a Source1 rewrite.
So, what if it IS a Source2Port? Well, we don't have any proof of that, nor any leaks implying it. ValveSpeculationsNetwork is making a video on it (he reconfirmed it during his TF2-complaining-stream) so he might share some detail we don't know of, or have missed.
TL:DR it would be great, but is extremely unlikely
Imagine the update is just some random workshop hats
and like 3 of the mentioned balance changes.
How fucking pissed would the community be?

Imagining this kind of scenario is pointless. We know the update isn't that. This is just being negative for the sake of it.

For the amount of time spent on this update I expect nothing less than 5 new mvm missions and a source 2 port and 50 actually good balance changes.

Go play another game maybe. Or read a comic. Anything other than TF2.

I don't think we'll ever reach or surpass the peak of ~2011 TF2 and the age of the game, combined with the influx of class based and arena shooters (Overwatch and QuakeChampions being the main contestants imo) new players will likely choose the shinier option.
On the other hand, anyone who's keeping an eye on the game or has a buddy who keeps them up to date, will be at least intrigued if the Update is indeed as important as they've been hyping it to be. These players WILL come back and the quality of the Update and future content will decide for how long they'll stick around.
So both yes and no. Unless they somehow manage to fuck this up, it will be a positive outcome. Positive enough to be worth 400+ days of development and update drought? Who knows.
My advice for waiting out content droughts in any game is always and forever gonna be; just go get some emulators and go digging through the last generation or two. The PS2 alone has more hidden gems than you're ever gonna be able to finish in your entire life. Do some looking and maybe you'll find something that ends up being your new favorite game ever.

We've been doing that for 14+ months now.

We do? When did we get such a luxurious list of what was going into the update? When did we receive even the slightest modicum of what was in the update after the good but still mysterious list of rebalances?
We know jack squat about what the update is because guess what they refuse to give even the smallest hint about it.
Oh, "mammoth.", how descriptive, really tells me all I need to know.
How's the Heavy going to be handled? "Mammoth."
Will MvM get new missions? "Mammoth."
Anything brand new? "Mammoth."
Where's the ARG? Where's the hidden pages? Where's the changed images on the blog?
Where're the fun hints giving us at least an idea of what they're planning? Valve still thinks surprise is the best thing to do, but it's actually the fucking worst.
You say we know exactly what the update will be but frankly we haven't been told shit.

I mean we know a lot of stuff about the update, ranging from increased level cap to placement matches to non-stock skins etc
chill my dude you are acting like contra after 9/6

yeah, and there's a lot more than 14 months worth of good games out there
I'm not saying I'm happy or content with the situation at hand, but that your time would be better served doing something actually fun instead of getting mad on the internet about things none of us have any power to change
