Listen, i'm all for valve taking their time. But if it takes them over a year and counting to get the update to an even moderately acceptable state then that doesn't speak kindly to the releasing of future content.
it seems pretty clear to me that the Heavy Update will be the actual end of the level of support we're used to. only gimmicks like saxxies and holiday pokes will possibly remain forever
I really do think they should remove random crits though. There's no point in having them other than giving new players some sort of even playing field against more experienced players. Some would argue that keeping them on melee only would be a better alternative. I think they should just be removed altogether.
You know that good players are more likely to get random crits so your point isnt valid EDIT: more dmg = higher chance of a rdm crit and I bet that a good player is dealing much more dmg than a new one.
it seems pretty clear to me that the Heavy Update will be the actual end of the level of support we're used to. only gimmicks like saxxies will holiday pokes will possibly remain forever
Ok, I'm glad a lot of people are optimistic, but 'level of support'? The game hasn't had a proper level of support since Love and War, the engine has been dying for years because everything is duct-taped together, and """""Regular""""" support has been barely any content, and little to no actual bugfixes or changes the community wants, at intervals that are hilariously inept.
I think they are too focused on making up for the botched Meet Your Match launch and want to make in their mind a perfect update. It's a shame, because if they focused on releasing small bits from the update such as balance changes, bug fixes, etc. as it finished and saving the major stuff (pyro rework, maps/cosmetics/etc.) for the actual update itself, they'd keep people waaay more engaged. This mindest of gigantic updates with tons of content is simply too large in scale for the current team, as shown by how long its taken for them to release it. I hope they realize after this update that taking this long only hurts them in the long run.
What evidence do you have that valve will stop updating the game when it earns them way more than releasing new flat fee games, with a tenth of the team.

IMPORTANT POST: What should the future threads be titled? I mean might as well do something about the future of this thread while valve is still coasting on the Soon side. > http://www.strawpoll.me/13881922/ < My vote was for [sp]Major Discussion[/sp] although General Chat is a fine pick as well.
Never underestimate valve's ability to delay. We did yesterday and paid the price. Although all signs point toward "soon". So that's good.
You know that good players are more likely to get random crits so your point isnt valid
This non-argument has been debunked so many times over that anyone saying it in the modern day is simply signaling their low information and skill level when it comes to TF2. To save myself some typing, here's a handy video that explains why basically every pro-crit argument over the years is either a fallacy or detrimental to the user experience. But if, data and facts aren't your thing, just think back to what valve themselves said in the Move Those Weapons Up blog post, where they wanted dead players to know they died fairly and from something they can prevent in the future with better skill or planning.
I have a Sinking feeling comp will never regain players.
I have a Sinking feeling comp will never regain players.
It probably wont to be honest. Everything that could've went wrong had gone wrong. It's the endless battleborn problem Game has problems>Players quit off>players quit off due to lack of players>new problem comes out>repeat.
Sorry if my post sounded pro-crit, I hate random crits with a passion.
If you Hate Random crits with a BURNING passion then you'll love this new feature called random duds or randoms jams. Random Duds are like a crit but does no damage at all, and for the jams it takes you 3 times as long, you heard it right 3 times as long to reload. Get it now for only the cost of a scrap
unless we are given a miracle, this week is completely out of the picture. are we back to mindless speculation week-by-week now? :s:
So, the ones that voted that the hype train will be destroyed were right in my raffle. [T]https://i.imgur.com/nCv1Vwk.gif[/T] Congratulations hawk18727! Your steam link is broken, so please add me to give you the item.
we've completely forgotten that they have a short for all we know the update is ready, september 6th was the date they wanted to release the short on, but complications with the rendering/editing caused delays a date + jungle means it has to do with the update. Valve is a lot quicker at finishing maps than the TF2 workshop community is so the map's probably already finished. depending on the short's length, rendering can take a long-ass time. it took weeks if i recall with end of the line (Valve likely has better hardware for rendering, but their short is probably also more visually complex than EotL was)
we've completely forgotten that they have a short for all we know the update is ready, september 6th was the date they wanted to release the short on, but complications with the rendering/editing caused delays
the short is honestly one of the main reasons i'm so excited for this update. the last actual short from the team was expiration date (i think?) which was a little over 3 years ago at this point. Assuming it's still going to be 4-6 minutes, that's definitely why it's taking so long.

I still want the short though, i just want anything that includes new TF2 content. On a different note, what're you guys playing to pass the time between updates? I've been playing Counter Strike: Condition Zero. It can be pretty fun.
What if we got the concluding comic, and the short, and the pyro update all at the same time?
I honestly can't get excited over a 4-6 minute short. The SFM community has spoiled me too much. I still want the short though, i just want anything that includes new TF2 content.
Nothing against community SFMs, but that quality of Valve shorts is just...so noticeably better than any community stuff. Some get close, but Valve's shorts are so nice that personally I think they'd be worth waiting a little bit for. Not over a year, but y'know
What if we got the concluding comic, and the short, and the pyro update all at the same time?
Well, we do know the SFM short is allegedly supposed to be tied with the Pyro update, so that's at least two out of three no matter what. But, yeah, that would be really exciting if they successfully pulled that off.
What if we got the concluding comic, and the short, and the pyro update all at the same time?
I think it's going to be multi-day no matter what. New weapons, rebalances, comp/casual overhaul, new short, and a new campaign (skins, cosmetics, etc) is way too much to release all at once.
I think it's going to be multi-day no matter what. New weapons, rebalances, comp/casual overhaul, new short, and a new campaign (skins, cosmetics, etc) is way too much to release all at once.
At this point, with how long we've waited, I'd honestly rather have a one-day update with multiple pages instead of waiting multiple days. Something like Gun Mettle (where they used "Part 1 and Part 2" pages) would be ideal.
It'd be amazing if they would just catch us off guard, something completely unexpected, like the old 5~ day Updates going over weekends.
It'd be amazing if they would just catch us off guard, something completely unexpected, like the old 5~ day Updates going over weekends.
I don't see why they wouldn't do that, it's not like anything actually gets added to the game until after the last day anyway
I know this is year-old speculation, but is this the time we'll actually learn more about who pyro is??
What if we got the concluding comic, and the short, and the pyro update all at the same time?
Then I'd feel a bit cheated that they'd make us wait for the comic arbitrarily when they've never been tied to in-game updates in the past. It won't happen though because the last comic was only six months ago.
I know this is year-old speculation, but is this the time we'll actually learn more about who pyro is??
Pyro is pyro. He burns things and is fucking nuts. That's all you need to know. It's like this page from Meet the Director [t]https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/7/7d/Director_04.jpg[/t]
