If they make TF2 able to use all of my CPU and all of my GPU, I'd be happy
But it already uses all of your CPU, regardless of configuration :v:
CS:GO had the same problem. Players expected updating to Source 2 to be the catch-all for anything they wanted. Just updating to Source 2 might allow the game to better utilize hardware, like properly using multiple cores. Players want a variety of things: improved hitboxes, better netcode, bug fixes, and optimization seem to be the main ones. Perhaps some rendering improvements as well. Then there's TF2 specific cases. Things like more than three cosmetics, making the flamethrower work, and facestabs. All these can be tied to the engine, but a new engine wouldn't change anything about them.
You are right, that's exactly what i am talking about. One should look into solving problem, and switch engine only if it's impossible with current one (or it it's known for a fact that solution will be easier there and transfer would not be too costly). Source 2 is not "fix all" button. Actually, according to my friends who play dota, quite the contrary as it's still unpolished and buggy
A week is technically plenty of time. But seriously, I was hoping the update would be out this week, I even bought a $50 steam card in anticipation.
Plenty of time for what? Recycling the previous Halloween events?

And yeah, as far as I know too, Source2 is still in early stages and it shows. Tbh, unless we get the CS:GO of TF2, I don't expect the game to ever get significantly optimized and/or ported in Source2.
If we don't hear anything tomorrow, it's most likely not happening this week. Autumn Jungle is fast approaching...

Just let me keep my hats and medals and it'll all be good.
what a year it's been for team fortresses
I almost feel at this point the hardcore fans are gonna see the update and have a "ughh.. finally." reaction rather than hype. And i think that's because we've knowm whats going to be added. I think casual fans are going to be super hyped because itll be a surprise and they have no expectations, but us, we've watched videos and read up on a lot of things they are adding; to us the surprise has been gone, and there has just been waiting till it gets here. I dont know if there will be hype as much as just relief for us. But maybe that's just me.
what a year it's been for team fortresses
Hey, at least its better than 2006.
Why, is there something I've missed, or just a hunch?
Oooh. When I replyed to that I was in school wifi and it blocks imgur links, so I just saw the "today is a good day" text, and thought it was reference to the update. I was wondering why I got so many dumb votes

the balance blog post was literally just as valuable as a major update in itself
I feel like people will say this kinda thing but I'm 90% certain as soon as the blog updates they're gonna get hyped.
youre probably right, i just hope it happens before i do get "eh" with it. I think what would help is for them to have, is surprises.
the balance blog post was literally just as valuable as a major update in itself
In ten days said blog post will be three months old.
If we don't hear anything tomorrow, it's most likely not happening this week. Autumn Jungle is fast approaching...
I feel like they have to launch it soon, even Reddit is getting pretty restless about how long the update is taking.
I feel like they have to launch it soon, even Reddit is getting pretty restless about how long the update is taking.
I'd rather they do it properly than shit out a half baked one like MyM.
I'd take anything at this point to be honest, maybe I'd regret it but what stops them from fixing problems after they release the patch? Unless it's something totally game breaking that they're holding out on I don't mind there being a few bugs on release, that's normal.
I'd rather they do it properly than shit out a half baked one like MyM.
I'm starting to question why over 400 days since Meet Your Match hasn't been enough time to do it properly.
I'm starting to question why over 400 days since Meet Your Match hasn't been enough time to do it properly.
There better be something we don't know about yet. I shouldn't have to wait 400+ days for a polished update, even with the tf team's current size
I truly believe Valve shoot themselves on the foot announcing this new update so god damn early and asking for public feedback. Yes, the more feedback the better, but at the same time it has feel like an eternity waiting for the update. I personally have no problem with this kind of big balancing to be made with the "pros" and just people visiting Valve. It's like a survey, you can get results just with a sample, you don't need to ask to every single person in order to get valuable data. You just could launch the update and push fixes and balacing the next days and weeks with community feedback. You know, like they used to.
The longer they delay, the more unrealistic the community's expectations become and the more toxic the drought becomes. I'm fairly certain at least something is done by now, why don't they just release?
why don't they just release?
performance issues, you know, sometimes it's difficult to get excited enough... i have a feeling that the update isn't too far from coming, though. just give them enough time, it's a massive load of changes :pride:
You can still unbox them from the crates where they are specifically listed. They don't drop and are not craftable anymore though.
https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/List_of_retired_items Nope.

Imagine the alternative of us going this long without news and people being uncertain if the game was dead or not.
IIRC the TF2 team did say that they will have plenty of time between the pyro update and scream fortress. If that still holds true then I think it's reasonable to assume that the update should be expected by the end of the month at the latest. Valve's plans obviously could of changed by then and their definition of "plenty of time" could be far different than mine. Hoping for some sort of blog post soon about this whole ordeal.
i have a feeling that the update isn't too far from coming, though.
I've lost count of how many times statements like this have been made since June. I supposed if it is said enough times it will be right eventually. It's kind of crazy to think that this Friday will make it a month since they made the case update blog post.
https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/List_of_retired_items Nope.
Oh, no wonder the soldier stash in unusual wear is more expensive. :s:
Did they ever provide reasoning for why they decided to retire those cosmetics?
https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/List_of_retired_items Nope.
Oh shit I have a Pyro's Beanie, I feel special now.
Did they ever provide reasoning for why they decided to retire those cosmetics?
It was explained a few pages back by someone, but to give a little more detail, Valve hired economist Yanis Varoufakis for a short while (who went on to be the Minister of Finance of Greece very briefly), so I think he had a big hand in influencing the removal for Gen 1 hats to see what it would do to the 'economy' of the game. He had an official Valve blog as well.
Tomorrow marks a full week since 9/6 I was convinced that even if it wasn't last Wednesday, it was going to be shortly thereafter. Now look at where we are. Even after all that hype and disappointment, STILL radio silence from valve.
