So, HellHound found this in the update files...
GitHub isn't showing any changes to either of them.
GitHub isn't showing any changes to either of them.
github wouldnt show the files creation iirc edit: i recalled incorrectly
Note about the most important part of every tf2 update: localization files. For some reason, а festivizer description was updated in Russian localization and it now sounds better than the original one for me. "Used to festivize a weapon" ("Используется для украшения оружия") -> "Fills the weapon with the Smissmas spirit" ("Наполняет оружие духом Шмождества")
Since the update is confirmed to have new skins for non-stock weapons, maybe they took the chance to change the description when they made the old festivizer compatible with the new skins?
github wouldnt show the files creation iirc
I've had the files in my install since 2014. Git shows the last change to them was 9 months ago.
Between the item desc/festivizer stuff and a few networking fluffs, this seems like one of those "janitorial" updates valve pushes before a proper one down the road, usually some community request or something (ToTH medals?).

We have be thrown a bone again! Sure, this one has little meat on it, but I will be damned if this community doesn't chew on it until we all get splinters.

I genuinely wonder how "new" TF2 would go over, still have a classic version, but do a soft remake that has all new features and an engine that doesn't die trying to do anything even remotely simple
ok my powers back on, you can release the update now, valve.
Gun mettle minor-update-right-before-major-update shenanigans?
Gun mettle minor-update-right-before-major-update shenanigans?
prolly nothing.
Arms Race 3 medals were made nameable
That happened in an item schema update ages ago, on the 23rd of August. It's only appearing in diffs now because this is the first patch after the schema update. You can see the schema log page here.
Has valve ever done any updates on a Thursday before? Or Friday for that matter?
Will there actually even be a blog post a day or so before the update releases? I mean, they usually do the "___ is almost here!" to updates that we haven't heard of before. We're all well aware of this update already, so they might just launch it out of nowhere.
Has valve ever done any updates on a Thursday before? Or Friday for that matter?
They've released many, many updates thursday, it's one of their most common major update days. They've also released major updates Friday once or twice
Was this update significant or are people overhyping again?
Was this update significant or are people overhyping again?
yes
Was this update significant or are people overhyping again?
VNN seems to think so
Not to hype anyone up, but in the updates dll's, there is this line : - optional uint32 client_session = 1; + optional uint32 legacy_client_session = 1; Legacy Client? I'm always trying to get information on things before reporting on them, so is this anything to look further into? There is a lot of "SteamDatagram" references in here.
Sounds like this update is finally going to fully implement steam datagram relay to TF2. I wonder if the implementation of it is giving them problems and holding back the update since matchmaking itself gave them so much problems last year.
nothing is in the update . just some updates to relaying stuff -edited`
An update that was nothing. The TF2 way
Sounds like this update is finally going to fully implement steam datagram relay to TF2. Stop toying with us Valve.
Just a quick question, what made this Wednesday/Thursday feel more special than the others? Was is the Mike Morasky thing, or just the long wait in general?
Just a quick question, what made this Wednesday/Thursday feel more special than the others? Was is the Mike Morasky thing, or just the long wait in general?
from what I remember, major updates usually ship on thursday and bugfixes friday, But it's been so long since a major update, who can say?
so when exactly do we ring the no update bell?
from what I remember, major updates usually ship on thursday and bugfixes friday, But it's been so long since a major update, who can say?
Back in the day we called it fix-it-friday for a reason
If we're going full-on Optimism Mode, this update was just to get a few testing things out of the way that, assuming it went well, would greenlight the release of the update tonight. Realistically though it means jack shit
