if the update doesnt drop by october 1st these are going down the drain :toxx: [T]https://puu.sh/xzjgh/7270f8ea3d.png[/T][T]https://puu.sh/xzjgt/0c321186d0.png[/T]
May as well kiss those goodbye right now.
So, is this really a sizable backend update - or just some non-relevant trash? If it's the first, well then, see you guys next week for real this time.
Valve fully switching their TF2 servers over to Steam Datagram Relay (which it seems like they're probably doing based on this 10 MB update) has been something I've been predicting and talking about them doing for awhile now both here and on reddit so personally I see it as a good sign.

Obviously Valve is activating their ion processor with quantum computing which is able to convert the electrons in the air into stabilizing compounds to increase data transfer speeds by 300%. This transfer speed will be needed when they add all of TF3's content into TF2. Jokes aside, I do hope that mini update had some purpose. Then again, I've thought that about literally every other piece of TF2 news recently.

Maybe that's not what they're prepping for with this update but based on Tyler and Testinglol's posts from earlier today that seems to be what this update is getting read for.
Care to explain what the Steam Datagram Relay is?
You can read about it in this post on the CSGO reddit Nothing super exciting on the end user end. Basically Valve's game servers will no longer connect to the Internet, you connect to an end point on Valve's network instead. This can help prevent DDOS attacks since people can't directly DDOS a server, just the end point (and you can be changed over to another one) and they say some people get slightly better ping since more time is spent on Valve's dedicated private network not the Internet.
Care to explain what the Steam Datagram Relay is?
check your friend list, right click someone playing CSGO and open game info. you won't see the usual server IP with players and their scores, instead you see 'playing casual/competitive Dust 2' or something like that, as you don't receive the server's IP, neither does your friend. SDR works by pinging all valve routing clusters once you start searching for a game, selects the one with the best ping as primary and selects a second as secondary, in case you fail to connect to the primary node (it can switch to the secondary even during a match), you connect to that node which in turn connects you to the game server. the main advantages of the system are better ping, since there can be a node close to your location which doesn't have servers, instead of connecting directly to the server, you connect to that node which connects you to the server, resulting in better ping, as connection between nodes are much faster and have much less delay. it's better for the server, as the IP is never revealed and can't be DDOSed. SDR was added to TF2 last year, but not the way it's used in CSGO, all it does now is periodically ping the nodes and choose the best one, which will match you directly to a server, it's easier for matchmaking, doesn't really take advantage of the system. once it's implemented (and it will, definitely be added), you'll get better ping, it'd be easier to play with a distant friend, as connecting to a distant server using a close node results in better ping, and it would make matchmaking faster, as you don't need everyone to be in the same area to match into a server, but instead allow some to use the nodes.

He's as jaded and cynical as the rest of us, he just had a good prediction and was pleased that it came to fruition.
Well, this is all really interesting. Let's hope for something next week.
Oh shit I was switching classes on tr_walkway and I found the "Brotherhood of Arms".

That's good news. If I understood correctly, this patch was just prep, right? When it was implemented in CS, did it also have a prep patch? I don't think its too much of a stretch to assume that this is more or less just prep for the full implementation probably coming with the Jungle Update. Question is if that full implementation is next week or later. Maybe we could use CS' behavior as some kind of template, unless it didnt have a prep patch.

Had my first dream about the update coming out. Mine was about how in the sfm, the mercs had to save a bunch of kids from working in t-shirt factories in Bangladesh. The payload on the map was a big shopping cart filled with babies and you had to push them into an airplane or some shit. Sounds random but I had to work on a paper about child labor laws, and tf2 has just been on my mind lately. Wierd.
Reading that reddit post I linked it seems like it was basically a beta you had to opt-in to with a console command and they gradually rolled it out to all players.
That's weird. Usually Valve toys with tf2 when it comes to this, them taking CS as their guinea pig this time is strange.
Swap children for monkeys and it's a legit idea for a map. That makes me wonder if Payload can be fused with MvM in some way. Escorting stolen AI core or something, on a multi-stage map with specific upgrades. edit: if it expands beyond "just take 6 scouts and push" it would be even better. Fuel collectibles, closed off gates that have to be captured etc.
Folks have tried payload on mvm with varying results Commune has the bots push the payload (still have to carry the bomb to win tho) Canyonpush has RED push the payload but you still have to clear the wave in order to win (it's more of a proof of concept than an actual map, imo) personally I think the idea is probably doable if you do it like Commune and have bots just win once the payload reaches its destination (canyonpush is a novel concept but being able to lose despite pushing the bomb to last is a pretty big gameplay problem)
That's weird. Regardless, it had been in Dota 2 for well over a year before it was added to CSGO. oh and I gotta mention this, if they're adding this system, then they won't be able to show valve servers in the server browser, unless they're adding a new browser. Ad-hoc like connection would still be possible, they could allow you to join a friend if they want to.
I benefit, I'll unbox with them :buddy:
Except you can't, unless Valve changed they way self-made keys work. Last time i heard about anyone trying to actually use their self-made key it legitimately just doesn't let you use it. They are seriously just glorified trophies. It asks for confirmation and then when you click yes, nothing happens. You'd have to just delete them.

They said they'll do casual improvements; is joining a friend via a new Server Browser gonna become reality? Seems like a conformation or a final nail in the coffin to me. We'll see next week - for sure. Just to clarify: This tiny patch was just a bunch of backup prep related to this new System, right?

That seems odd, since I'm pretty sure the keys CS:GO skin makers get are actually just purely cosmetic and you don't even have the option to open them.
Back to the payload MvM thing. I actually think that would be sorta interesting, cause it might shift Engie's meta and will certainly make spy more viable to pick up cash cause of scouts x2 cart movement. Also, and Idea could be pushing an "emp" instead of a bomb through an 8 or so stage mission. Each time you clear a stage, the next one opens up, and you have your upgrade time.

Is there any chance for today?
Is there any chance for today?
teaser at most.
Friday is a highly unlikely day to push out arguably the largest update in TF2 history.
The middle of September is also highly unlikely
Aren't we expecting a multi-day update too? Why would it be today if we haven't even had an update page/blog post yet?
While the likeliness is low, if anyone would release an update at 9:30 on a Friday night, it's valve
Is there any chance for today?
Since CSGO Is Valve's favorite game, I doubt it ;(
